Only over a half a decade late, mediocre player somehow became captain of this great club.

Always gave full commitment but shocking crossing ability was maddening. Hardly ever looked up before crossing, accuracy zero and corners rarely came to anything.

Honestly Shaw should be next. We really need to shed those wages...I'm fine with DDG Martial and Rashford getting high wages, but the rest of the squad needs a slow and consistent deep clean till the wages either match the value of where we are or even undervalue our squad.
100% agree. We need to root out players drawing big wages with no return Bailly, Rojo, Matic,Jones, Shaw, Mata, Lingard there is too much wages tied up with these lads.

It's so hard to move these players on when they don't perform. In fairness to Ole he is laying the foundations, don't think he will get us back to the top but he is getting the basics right.

Remember also Jones can fill-in at fullback in an emergency for one game at least, assuming he can make it to full-time without injuring himself, so it's not so bad...

Yes, he underperformed for Ashley but he did put in a few decent shifts in recent years while Shaw was out at LB and we were thin at RB until this year. But he put in some horror shifts too, it must be said.

We might be asking too much of Williams and the perenially-injured Shaw but WTF let's ride them through May and hopefully be properly stocked at LB and RB next season.

Sir Alex said we needed players to compete with Barcelona.

Signed Ashley Young.

Never been a fan of his. Never thought he was good enough and he never was. Good professional sure, but the fact he was captain just shows how awful we have been run.

Best of luck to Ashley, was a solid squad player, vastly unappreciated by a lot of fans. But it was time for him to go. Williams, Dalot and Laird will now all get more chances.
I hope he has a successful time in Italy and he settles well into the culture.

Really...are you forgetting how horribly mismanaged our club is? We sold Lukaku with no replacement in the summer which hindered our whole season from day 1
Rashford already has scored more than Lukaku managed in 45 appearances for United last season and Greenwood, Martial will likely outscore him also.

No replacement for Herrera would be a better example.

Weird weird behaviour from some fans. Weve been screaming for him to leave for 4 seasons now some use it as a tool against the board and ole. Did anyone really want to see him here next year, in any capacity? We have Shaw, Dalot, AWB, Williams and Laird. None of them are any worse than him.

hes a defunct, obsolete winger who was shoehorned into a full back postion, just like Valencia, and somehow got wedged there. Good professional, mediocre player, should have been sold to Burnley or someone about 4 years ago.

If we can get rid of Jones, Rojo and Matic as well i’ll have quite a party
I'd keep Matic I think he's decent and we don't have a replacement for him at the moment. I'd move on Jones , Rojo and Lingard next and that would nearly be all the Deadwood cleared out

Fantastic business by United. Depleting an already depleted squad. It’s not like our defenders get injured a lot or anything. This is great, fantastic stuff clearing out the dead wood.
RB - Wan Bissaka , Dalot , Laird, TFM and Axel has also played there.

LB - Williams , Shaw , Dalot , Tuanzebe (played LB already this season ) Rojo.

We have a lot more problems than full backs.

Yeah, and let Mata walk after his contract expires after next season. He's a good soldier, can eat up minutes when required, provides some veteran leadership in the dressing room, and won't bitch and moan if he's not picked.

Best of luck Ashley. Great pro for us and had some great games over the years tbf, particularly under LVG. I would take the payday in Italy too at his age!

I like Young. He's been a bit of a neverending nightmare of late but I'm one of of few who can genuinely appreciate the good performances he's put in for us (and there are some), and if nothing else, the effort put in. He played his heart out for us and has been more useful than many make out at times.
I won't forget that awesome performance to shut out Salah at his peak.

I'm also a bit unsure about whether this is the right time, despite being glad for him to be moving on, considering he's still had to feature quite a bit.

Anyway, all the best Ashley.

Let's hope we actually move on, because there's already plenty of positions to be buying for, nevermind backup fullbacks.

Can we be any more of a joke. Losing your captain is bad enough...but for £1.5m??!!! It we had any class we would not have taken a penny for him having allowed his contract to run down.
It's like, offering a teddy bear that your child has no use for to someone and they offer 1p which you take. I mean, no! Just let it go.

So incomings zero. Outgoing one. Will he be replaced? Of course not. Par for the bloody course at Old Trafford these days.

Utterly disgusted.

A signing we never should have made to be honest. His effort in his latter years has been impressive but that's about it. An average player who somehow wound up at Manchester United. Kudos for some of those energetic performances but as a footballer he was never good enough.

Yeah, if AWB, Williams, Shaw, Dalot, Laird, TFM, Bailly, Lindelöf, Tuanzebe and Rojo are all injured..

Also, the revisionism on here is straight out laughable. People actually saying we got rid of him too EARLY?

Shaw and Rojo should be replaced by a left-footed LB with great crossing ability and we're set with full-backs for a decade at least.
(LB), Williams, Dalot
AWB, Dalot, Laird

His effort was impressive "but that's about it"???? Then he is average. You are all over the shop mate.

never complained (until now, apparently), despite him being surely aware that the fans have never warmed to him.
Reading the Caf nowadays I’m sure even Messi would get his fair share of abuse on here. Strange how we point out how many players aren’t ”United quality”. Based upon many, many attitudes and comments I’m finding it harder and harder to understand what our ”quality” is supposed to be.

I’ll fondly remember his attitude and cut-ins finished with a nice curl into the far corner.

I’ll also never forget the times I cursed him for taking forever with his throw-ins.

His effort has been impressive. Especially for his age. What’s wrong with that? He’s definitely tried and put a shift in when needed which is more than can be said for some other fan favourites. He’s shown passion and a little edge at times too. Probably why he secured the captaincy.

Doesn’t mean he hasn’t been an average player for us overall.

It's clear what I'm saying. He put in a great shift in his latter days but all in all was never good enough.

He was never fecking good enough. Had a good 1st season with a bunch of average ones. Should have sold him when he didn't cut it anymoe but what do we do? Convert him to a fullback

Won the league in the 2nd season, if he's good enough for Fergie he's good enough for me. I mean, I don't think Fellaini was good enough either, but he always put in a shift and contributed when he was here. Our Ash is one of the most decorated English footballers, having won it all.

One injury to AWB and this depth you are imagining will look as thin as a fine thread.

He was horrendous in Fergie's last season. Truly awful. Then had another horrible year with Moyes (but didn't everyone). Got his career back on track under LVG and did well in Jose's second season though. I give him credit for that.

I think horrendous is a bit much, sure he didn't hit the heights from his first season but still worked hard and contributed. I remember he should have had a goal against City, but even without it, he played well in that game.

Decent player that didn't have the quality to play the role he has played for us in the last few years. Obiously not his fault. Good luck.

Good deal for player, he will be playing in different league and for the club that is challenging for the league title.

I don't think he will be a loss for us. At least in first half of season we didn't have numbers, now Dalot if back to fitness and Williams is playing well. AWB, Williams, Shaw, Dalot is a decent quality and quantity. Worse case we can play Rojo as LB.

His PL stats
2011-12 7A 6G 25App - His only really good season at Utd
2012-13 3A 0G 19App - Won the league
2013-14 1A 2G 20App - Should have been sold after the end of the season
2014-15 5A 2G 26App - starts playing as a full back
2015-16 2A 1G 18App
2016-17 1A 0G 12App
2017-18 4A 2G 30App
2018-19 2A 2G 30App

And the most depressing stat - he got more assists playing for Watford and Villa (6 seasons - 44 assists) than he did at Utd (9 seasons - 25 assists in PL) despite more playing time.

But we are Charity Utd. Instead of getting rid of players who aren't good enough we give them another chance at a different position

One injury to Wan Bissaka and it would be an absolute catastrophe. If Young goes he needs replacing. Dalot, TFM, Axel, Shaw & Rojo are all injury prone and cannot be relied on to be anything other than a "bonus" when they are fit. Williams are Laird are kids. Just one injury to AWB puts us in complete disarray.

More like MacGuyver Utd.. Fergie started it by converting Valencia into a RB. Young deserves credit for taking care of his body and prolonging his career, and he was mostly a squad player for us anyways. He could play either side and was a good leader in the dressing room, so he doesn't deserve the hate.

Signed as a winger and was mediocre there and then converted into to a wingback. Turn up few times a season. Kept on mostly cos he was English and runs about.
I was there when they booed him in singapore 2019. Actually didn't know what to feel then, looking back now didn't deserve to be in this club hence he got sticks that he didn't deserve as well. Thanks ashley. We all move on. Good luck
