You’re talking nonsense, if a player lays their hands on an official (which is what we’re talking about here, so don’t try and dilute the discussion by mentioning things like badgering etc) they will be punished.
Di Maria was sent off for tapping Michael Oliver on the back.
Also this is made worse by the fact it was a male doing it to a female professional, it’s super relevant and that’s why we’re discussing it.
Di Maria got a yellow for that IIRC; it was his second, hence the red but not a direct red for the incident with Oliver. I don’t honestly remember my view of it at the time, I suspect I thought he was stupid to do it while also thinking Oliver could’ve let it slide in the circumstances.
The debate here seems to be if this was a yellow or a red.
This with Aguero seems more aggressive than Di Maria but does it elevate it to the red card threshold? I’m not sure either-way TBH - the incident is certainly influenced by this being the only female referee in the league, and Aguero probably wouldn’t have reacted like that in that manner if it hadn’t been her but should that influence the decision? It’s a debate certainly - I think he can have no complaints if he faces further action, but people will complain about her being afforded extra protection, as if that’s a bad thing or something.
I also think the point made about Massey-Ellis potentially facing some trouble from the City crowd when they return (insert Empty-had jab here) if this is taken further is a good one; whilst she shouldn’t have to put-up with that then it might be easier to just let it slide, however unpleasant the whole thing is.
Regardless it reflects really poorly on Aguero, who we know is a twat but doesn’t really have that rep in the media as far as I can see up to now.
