His stats don't look that bad but I've felt that his performance levels haven't been the same since he returned from injury after the lockdown. While he will score goals, we need that guy who looked like he would turn into the next ronaldo/bale rather than a better version of welbeck on a bad day going forward. Within a game he has quite a few moments where his touch is poor and he makes the wrong decision.

His numbers are pretty good but I do think the way he plays is not that sustainable in the long run for a top team to really challenge across all fronts unless he really ups his output or tries to do a bit more for the team. He's too good to not have some output from the way he plays, particularly being served by Bruno, but I'm not sure his approach means as a whole we're getting the most out of the team. He doesn't really create consistently and doesn't seem to make runs to create space for others.

He's started making more runs in behind this season, although would like to see him do more of the ball running, and has a good understanding with Bruno and does tend to deliver in big occasions. I also do think he probably needs more of a rest than he generally gets which could play a part. At end of the day he's still only 23 so clearly going right direction but as I said I do think unless he really ups his contribution that I'm not convinced that his style is really going to propel us to the next level.

That's not to say he's the only problem in attack. Martial has his own issues to work through as well and clearly not started at the level we'd want him to so far this season. If both Rashford and Martial can pick up their form/develop further in 2nd half of the season, and hopefully with Greenwood finding form as well then it would be a massive boost in us really making a title challenge.

I know there are mixed feelings about Rashfords recent form because he’s missed some huge chances. But personally I’m really happy how he’s playing because he’s getting himself in those positions and looks to be playing with a lot of confidence. His dribbling has gone up a level in recent games.

The most pleasing aspect in recent weeks has been how well he has played on the right wing and coming in from the right. In previous years under Jose, Rashford and Martial have always been very underwhelming on the right wing and it just never worked. Probably because they were being asked to defend more than attack.

But Rashford has shown in recent games that he can perform from the right which opens up options like signing Grealish who can then play from the left. Or they can both interchange.

Rashford has had a frustrating journey in his development, but every young player has a different road to success. Rashford is so close to being amongst the very best in the world once he becomes more ruthless with his chances. He has everything else needed.

Anyone else think that he could do with improving his workrate slightly?
His technical ability has improved a lot which is great but he walks around too much. Unless it's down to tiredness which is a different story.
Definitely down to tiredness, he's been playing way too much recently. Should be rested for the cup games alongside with Bruno.

i think we need to take cup games seriously as well. We need to win silverware this year. Probably rest him against and Burnley and Fulham

We are one injury away of starting Daniel James. Its not sustainable to play Rashford and Bruno everygame, at least not with the current schedule.

In the FA cup we should be able to past through Watford with our B team. While in the EFL cup against City I'd opt for a mixed team.

Workrate as in closing down the ball because hes our only player who relentlessly makes runs in behind which takes a hell of a lot out of you.

The only concern I have is his decisions under pressure, yesterday he had a easy pass to Pogba but the shot was on with his left foot and I think because he was in 2 minds the shot went straight to the keeper which on a better day and clear mind ends up with a goal. He needs to up his work rate too he sometimes looks like he can't be bothered to chase and close down. Definitely not a Welbeck 2.0 as some suggest but is in danger of being a JlingZ 2.0 as by now he should have been the complete player which I believe he is 20% off.

I'm sure he's already scored more goals for United than both Welbeck and Lingard combined.

I thought from the 70th minute on he looked cooked and I was thinking Ole would have taken him off for Greenwood or even James. He still had moments after where going forward he was busting a gut but his tracking back became non existent after that point. I often find him lacking in that aspect anyway but fair play to him yesterday for 70 minutes I felt like he put in way more effort than he usually does getting back.

Maybe Ole allows him certain freedoms in games and lets him off with not tracking back that much and maybe yesterday he changed that to accomadate for the threat of Grealish.

He's still suffering with his shoulder injury, think it was in the Wolves game where he got a pretty gentle pull on his arm by the touchline and he went down in a lot of pain. Not sure if anyone has a video? Running with a shoulder injury is really quite painful so I think he's doing well to play through the pain. Definitely holding back on the intense pressing though.

fecking ridiculous how much he gets disrespected here. Last summer, half of our fans were willing to give a kidney for Sancho, this season they want Grealish. Yet, Rashford who plays in a similar position while being both better and more proven than either gets criticized every second game for not being peak Ronaldo.

We need another another winger but certainly not the expense of Rashford.

Sancho or Grealish should be our main targets. Preferably the former as he plays on the right. I am a massive fan of Grealish, though.

His numbers are good this season and he still has room to improve so he’ll be a very important player In the next 4 months or so. Clearly needs a bit of a rest, like most players in the league and should get a few days off after the City game as he shouldn’t be needed against Watford (Maybe on the bench).

I've seen highlights of him vs Villa, he actually does very well to get into good shooting positions from the right hand side. His shooting was a bit off yesterday but this is another good weapon we can add to our arsenal and basically solves a problem how to play Martial, Cavani and Rashford to get the best out of them.

He needs a rest but I'm trying to work out where that could happen. Maybe when Cavani comes back but that will be around the Liverpool game. Definitely shouldnt start the fa cup Match. Maybe martial and Greenwood front two vs burnley?

His stats this season are good. 14 goals and 4 assists in 25 games? Really good

I must admit his dribbling seems to have improved, but in general his technical touch is still very inconsistent. He also constantly makes the wrong decisions. He just doesn’t seem to have the consistent quality to be in a title winning side as a starter, but could see him as a super sub, hitting tired defenders on the break, where he wouldn’t have to do anything but run off their shoulders.

Still, even then, he needs to have better finishing!

Rashford scored or assisted in 4 of the 6 games played in CL

Came on as a sub in all 3 league Cup games and still scored or assisted in 2 games.

Scored or assisted in 8 out of 16 league games, excluding penalties. If you include them then it's 10 out of 16 games.

I’ve noticed that a lot recently that if he loses the ball he doesn’t really make an effort to get it back.

But I did wonder whether he’s had instructions regarding this. I wonder whether Ole and the coaches have advised him not to exert too much energy off the ball and save his energy for making runs and attacking play in order to get more game time out of him during a busy period. If he was to be constantly chasing off the ball, I doubt we could get as many minutes out of him in such a short time between games. He’s too important to rest at the moment like Bruno. With Mctominay and Fred in the team we can probably afford to let Rashford take it easy when it comes to getting the ball back. Who knows.

Read it again. Still think its nonsense! The fact that you compared him to Welbeck when hes having a bad day going forward is ridiculous, as Rashford can have poor games but can win us games in the blink of an eye. Welbeck couldn't do that. As I said, have a day off!

i don't know about me but you could certainly use it! You may think that he is on another planet to welbeck even on a bad day but that is your problem. there's a reason for the rashbeck meme that went around last season.

He’s matched like C. Ronaldo was in some respects: his general fitness and restitution means he can play every game almost - remember young Ron would start even league cup and dead ringers even when he was our most important player.

Rashford has now been starting almost every match restituting from first a back issue, then a shoulder. That proves how important the coaching team deems him to be to our play even at less than full efficiency. Solskjær has also evidently instructed him to cheat defensively ever since his intermediary days. I think it’s about the defensive value of opponents pinning themselves back and getting stretched because they fear his danger on the counter.

Rasford is the kind of player that wis his skillset can help us push play fourty yards upfield in seconds, and that forces opponents to allocate more resources to his part of the field. Strategically those are great assets for the team regardless of wether his shots and dribbles come of on that particular day or not.

A Manchester United fan who came through our youth team into the first team and has scored more goals than ANY other academy graduate in our entire history by the age of 23 (yes, including Best, Charlton, Giggs, Scholes etc).

The football world: "Rashford is as exciting a young player as we have ever seen"

RedCafe: "Rashford is not good enough"

You’ll appreciate him when he’s out of the team or gone, what an extreme over criticism of a player who has been excellent for the past month and had been playing through an injury, his overall game has come leaps and bounds too, his close control and dribbling have gone up a level and he’s not sacrificing it for running in behind either, he’s started to combine both aspects together

This here is the Caf conundrum. Some say he’s played well this month because he has scored goals. Even if he’s been diabolical in games for 99% of it, that one goal over-writes most of the Cafs collective thinking. Turning him in to “Has been excellent for the past month” “His overall game has come on leaps and bounds”

Disagree with those two comments. Everyone can see there is a player there but football is a team game and too often he makes the wrong decisions in games. Nobody can be perfect but he seems to make an alarmingly high amount of the wrong choices on the field and if anything it’s been pretty bad this last month.

I think everyone just wants him to do better because they know he can do a lot better which will take him and the team to a much higher level than it’s performing at now. That’s why it maybe seems like people are tough on him because the recognise he could be great. Just needs to make better decisions.

I think the issue isn’t just that hes been playing not great but scoring, but also that the goals scored look rather flukey.

The amount of people overrating Rashford are far less than clowns like you who are here to undermine Rashford even when he's doing well.

It’s like he is allergic to tracking back. If I was Ole I’d sit him down and make him rewatch the match again and how many times he and Greenwood just let people run. You would think you see your team and defence is struggiling and should get back and help out.
He had a decent performance but at times man he is so frustrating. There is so much scope for him to improve and hopefully he does. Ole mentioned something after the Newcastle game. something like, in the final phase we tend to rush things where maybe one more pass, one more movement. Bruno and Rashford are perfect examples of this.
That attempted pass to Martial, like what was that. He had to commit the defender or go himself. Just seemed a lazy and poor decision.
Few times in the game as well, he held it up well Telles is there asking for the ball. Just give him the ball and run in to space. Instead he does something stupid and loses the ball. Later something similar where Bruno is there, give him the ball and run in to space.
I’d totally disagree with this. Although I get the general concept of what Fletcher was saying, I would say one of Rashfords worst attributes is that he is often way too greedy and doesn’t see others. It feels like they only decided to mention that tonight becuase two occasions where he tried to pass it he screwed it up.

If he was a ruthless and relentless finisher then what Fletch was saying about how that’ll draw or make people panic then sure take more chances but he isn’t really that, not yet.

Think he’d do better and be better if he was just more considerate and careful in the final 3rd, everything seems rushed, panicked not like he has ice in his veins.
Isn‘t the point of a forum for people to debate and talk about what they have seen and his performances? Having an adult discussion involves talking about the good and bad of his performances. Some people can handle that, some people can’t and post petulant posts or posts that make them seem like the superior fan/ moral high ground.

Truth is he did play well, but there are still moments to be discussed on things he did wrong or were poor. As would I’m sure many of the players in the game.
But are you saying if he had played terrible for 89 mins but in a 10 second spell he did something good and scored that would write off the previous 89 mins and we should only discuss that 10seconds ? I think not.
Sorry but I disagree. People often determine a players ability or worth having seen him play. The good and the bad. That’s how people come to their conclusion. People watching Salah, Mane and the likes are going to take note of the mistakes they make and frequency of the poor decisions to form an overall picture to rate them by.

Being United fans we probably see a lot more of Rashford than Mane or Salah so people can quite adequately state he probably should have done better here or there and that it’s a bit of a bad habit that needs improving if it’s frequent. Just the same as I’m sure they could say the same for Salah/Mane. I don’t watch enough to give an opinion on either other that at times Salah seems a bit ball greedy to me. However he’s shown he has the ability to frequently score from audacious positions when maybe there was a better option.

Maybe I don’t frequent the same threads as you but I don’t see these direct comparisons or people saying things like Salah wouldn’t have done that and so on.

Just think they way you presented that came off a bit condescending.

I think anyway we can all agree Rashford is a fantastic talent who is still developing and can still vastly improve aspects of his game and like every footballer will have good and bad patches.
Electric.

The pen thing is funny. He had no intentions of giving that to Martial watching that vid. Doesn’t even look at him when Ole over rules him.

Got to say as good as that goal would have been if he scored he had to pass that to Martial. However man was on fire.
I think in like the 80th minute we got a break the ball was with him and the first thing that came to mind was this is going nowhere. He’ll hold on to the ball, not pass and then loose the ball and that’s exactly what he did and what he does far too often.

Needs to get that out of his game.
See in the first 5 mins of the game the difference in choices these two make was perfectly illustrated. When Rashord went inside and did that beautiful bit of skill to go past 2 just before that the pass to Martial is on who can bend one in the far corner and Rashford ignored it even though it was the better option. No doubt in my mind Martial passes that ball.

Then Martial finds himself in space at a pretty tight angle but he can probably muster a shot but then tries to find Rashford instead of taking it on. No doubt in my mind Rashford would have shot from that position And probably made something happen.

They both need a bit of what the other has but yeah when the passing is slick and smooth and we can get the ball to them they tend to have pretty good link up. Mind goes back to the back heal I think vs Norwich. Both just need a bit more experience to figure out what is the right choice but both I felt were pretty good last night.
Although I’m not sure he should be dropped, I think Uncle bobs assesment that really he’s been a bit average is true. His poor performances and there are many just like today covered with one moment where he makes a telling impact. Does that 1 moment counteract the previous 89mins and the effect it has on the team over that period of time.

His biggest flaw is the decision making And it’s every game he makes a bad decision. He has to roll that ball across to Cavani. That’s a no brainer and then later when it’s never on and Fred is clearly off side he tries to play in Fred.

He is so damn frustrating. I’m sure he’ll improve, he has to but I hope it happens soon.
He was pretty poor yesterday. The 30 mins before he scored his goal he was non existent and was just strolling about. Gets his goal people forget about that previous 30. 2nd half he did start to show signs of life until he went off with that injury. Picked out a great pass to Martial which just seemed so out of character so good on him.

There were a few times actually where he is just so lazy. Just whacks the ball against the defender instead of trying to get the ball past the defender from wide.
Terrible. Showed all his bad attributes today. Can’t hold the ball, won’t pass, can’t pass and generally just making poor decisions.
Do have to wonder if he has something against LB’s. A game recently he basically outright seemed to refuse to put Telles through in to better positions. Did the same to Shaw yesterday and has done through out his career. He only ever seems to pass back to them when he has no option. Never puts them in to space.

yesterday I think around the 38th minute Shaw has busted a gut and is flying through and Rashford ignores it when it was quite clearly the best option. Think he does what Rashford normally does and tries to go inside and smash one in.

He really needs to become a better team player to really go up a few gears in terms of his performances. He honestly just infuriates the life out of me sometimes with his decisions. Doesn’t help him that Martial showed yesterday why its a team game and not the Rashford show.
Is it though? Or are all the moments he doesn’t pass to players in better positions, or running up blind allies the sign of a not so World class player. There is no doubting he has the abilities to be world class but he really needs to start making better decisions if he really wants to get there.

That was a pretty classic Rashford performance, is pretty bad for all of the game, then has a bit of luck and the ball deflects in to the net. If it didn’t then we are lamenting him for again not squaring the ball to Cavani who is in a better position.

The amount of time he spent pissing about on the ball and the lack of effort at times to get in to a position just annoys the life out of me.

These are the bulk of 19 posts you've posted in this thread. 95% of criticism for a player who's got 15 goals already in half a season. Such a weird agenda to have. Embarrassing and clueless.

Then check martial and Shaw threads, you would think they are Ronaldo and Maldini.

My favorite United player.

You know I just re-watched his performance against Villa in 2016, where he scored. He's improved massively since then, the passing and dribbling are worlds apart. It goes to show that young players given regular time improve, but all credit to Marcus for putting the effort in and improving.

I'm genuinely thinking he could be a good long-term RW option for us, his dribbling is better on that side as he can go in or out with his right (whereas on the left he struggles at times when forced outside on to his left), he can shoot with both feet and can pick a pass. It'd help us since basically all of our attackers favour coming in from the left.

I think the main thing that video highlights is how scared defenders are to stick close to him.

As long as the likes of AWB, Shaw make runs, he will have options to pass
