I mean it is a very easy thing to do, to think your average Sunday leaguer couldn’t score a similar goal under the circumstances never mind some of the best strikers in the world is a bit of a madness. No technique in it at all. The shot Fred took on the volley and controlled is a much harder skill to do.

Was pretty poor today, got a little better in the 2nd half when he actually started playing his role instead of masquerading as a striker which is something he does way too often. Honestly if he spent more time in and around the space between attack and midfield i feel his and our performances as a whole would massively improve. Always a gaping hole there with no one to pass to and today Martial kept filling in his position so we could maintain possesion and control of the ball better. That should be Bruno’s job.

Hopefully it’s something that will come because I felt in the last couple of games we played and looked better when he stepped in midfield and helped control the tempo with less of the trying to force something to happen.
I believe Burno playing right behind Cavani was coming from coaching.

Hell, he scored a goal playing there. The reason why he plays there is simple. When your forwards are not working out, someone like him has to go up there to try making clever passes.

There is no point playing from deep when 2 of your 3 forwards can't make decent runs or against deep blocked teams. We played much better in 2nd half due to raising the tempo. Not just him.

And, he does come deep once all the gaps are closed in the box.

No reason to why non of our forwards are working out?

Yes I do. 'Better' in the sense that his own game can be more consistent and therefore he will be able choose his moments better.

In a perfect world, he would still be having the same impact (!) whilst playing more progressive passes, more ball recycling and perhaps more pre-assist type passes rather than being our main guy.

I think at the moment he is playing on pure ability, instinct and passion i.e not sustainable for him or our team.

Perhaps 'better' is not the word. Rather, I want less burden on him so he can play his game without needing to be our saviour every game. More a healthy balance.
No I agree with you, I think you mis read it or I miss wrote it.

What I am saying is the fact he is still giving this insane out out and he could still get better is insane! Just think about how better he can still be.

All in all though the least of United worries in that whole squad is Bruno.

I’m sure he is supposed to get up and support Cavani but a lot of the time he seems ahead of the strikers. I’m not saying he should be sitting on the half way line but every game there is a large pocket of space between midfield and attack and for me that is where he needs to be. Him not being their kills off passing options slowing down progress.

Maybe it is under instruction from Ole if so then for me it needs adjusting so we can get the best out of him and the team as a whole performing better.

Almost certainly tactical because whenever VdB gets rare minutes he pushes right up as well. It’s as if we are trying to overload their defensive line. The traditional space where you might find a 10 seems to repel our players.

Could say that pretty much that every game, no?

Strange player. Never have I seen a player so shit yet so world class.
Behave. has carried us through multiple games not just because of singular moments of magic but because of consistent presence.

Definitely in the last few weeks his overall form has fallen and he’s managed to do a handful of great things in games but to say that about him in general? You’re miles off the mark.

A few games off the boil and you manage to equate it to his entire career with us thus far, madness.

He’s been our best player since he’s joined, and it isn’t even close, and that’s not because of 1 or 2 moments each game - it’s because of his contributions throughout games.

He is like Rooney circa 2016. Good numbers, capable of a moment of magic, but overall sloppy and underwhelming displays.

However, Rooney was an ageing player at that point and had been one of the best players in the world for many years and one of the most important players in the club's history.

Bruno walks around the pitch like he's above his teammates and shouting at his teammates for their mistakes, meanwhile he misplaces the simplest passes and gives the ball away more than anyone. He needs to humble himself. Can't stand his attitude and performances sometimes to be honest.

Think he's just trying to force things a bit too hard at the moment. Every time he gets the ball, he's trying to create chances and more often than not losing possession. Again just tells me we don't have a system of play, just letting individual talent hash it out.

Goal was pure class though, and saved us from an embarrassing defeat.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
First half he was absolutely atrocious. The worst he's ever played for us and he was a big reason why we couldn't build anything as every time we were in a remotely dangerous position he'd destroy the chance by giving the ball away. Time after time he just gave the ball straight to an opponent or over-hit or under-hit the pass making it impossible for us to create anything. Fantastic goal at the end of it all but it's simply not good enough.

Second half was a bit better but still wasn't good enough.

You guys are right. Bruno sucks and we should see if we could talk Exeter into taking him on loan

Where would we be without him? 6th and Ole out of a job.

Even on an off day, he is a special player.

I can't bring myself to say anything other than he's the least of our problems. I'm not blind to the fact that he turns over possession way too much, or that he's prone to making simple mistakes... But the reality is, this team really looks void of pretty much everything when he doesn't play.

The reason he's needing to force things in the first place is that the whole team is disjointed, and doesn't really perform close to the sum of it's parts - that has to fall at the feet of the coaching team, not any individual player. His ability to maintain his productivity whilst not playing well is what separates us from being 2nd, and being somewhere around Spurs and Arsenal. When the team is able to put in at least two successive good performances together, we can start to judge how good he actually is.

Everytime I feel he can´t be more horrible but his bottom level seems to have endless potential. His passing completion had to be around 10% at one point. At least he score but that´s simply not good enough, he should be our most creative outlest and create chance after chance not fecking every single ball up, that is also not easy to play with trust me.

He wasn't good yesterday but still scored a marvellous goal and at least TRIES to get us forward and make things happen. He desperately needs help from others, it's like playing with a man down with Martial at the moment and too often Rashford goes off the boil.

He's class Bruno but he cannot do everything himself, others really need to be contributing more.

No, no you dont get it. Bruno has to do everything and if he doesn't he's trash.

Guys, Bruno is literally fecking carrying us this season. Even when he has the occasional poor performance he can still conjure up something.

He's the only rounded player we have in the squad bar Pogba and Shaw. Everyone else has clear deficiencies in their game.
Imagine trying to create something with Rashford, Martial and Greenwood in the form they've been in this season. Surprised he's not bald.

No doubting his playing ability. Saved us yesterday with his well taken goal almost out of nothing. Brilliant strike!
Just wish he could get on with it more instead of all the whingeing. When the whingeing stops he could be our captain!

Two wonder goals in a week, in games we both drew miserably. Probably going to hit 25-30 goals from midfield with nothing to show for it

Fantastic goal....his individual return is insane. His all round performance needs to improve if he wants to win something though.

Aye he is carrying us, I mean you only need to look at the numbers. Incredible from him but some other players seriously need to start stepping up.

True although VDB against Liverpool I felt was way more positionally better and played in that space quite well.

I just keep thinking of something Keane said not long ago, it was something along the lines of at times Sir Alex would send them out without any tactical instructions and trust they were good enough players to see the issues or spaces and fix them themselves.

For me even if it’s by instruction like Rashford vs Pool good players should be able to see the issues or problems and solve them. If he sees that there is the space and we are struggiling to creat oppertunities and there is no space in the front line he should drop in there more often. The same as Rashford should have seen there were three players going at Luke Shaw and should have helped out.

Martial was pretty crap yesterday but the one thing he did well was go in to the space Bruno left so we could keep possession or change the angle. It’s just getting a bit frustrating now that it happens game after game. Last two as well I thought he did quite well sitting in the gap.

Did he play the game any differently at all in the Portuguese league, was he anymore patient then or was he always so eager for the killer pass? I assume he’s like this under instruction from Ole but then I’m sure I read that Ole’s initial doubts about signing him were re. his lack of ball retention

he has been our best player, by far, since joining. Without him we’d probably be mid-table. I actually don’t mind him taking a shot under pressure. We’ve actually been missing this, someone who is always looking for goal. The return he’s given is sensational so far. His numbers speak for themselves. He is a leader on the pitch and has a winning mentality.

sometimes sloppy on the ball when making a pass. But who’s perfect, he needs to work on this aspect of his game. Great player, a joy to watch.

I disagree. For most games, he succeeds with most of his passes, albeit with a high percentage of misplaced ones. He normally executes the simple passes well, and in addition puts out a high percentage of incisive or opening passes where half of them come off and half don’t. This way he is a part of a good ten-fifteen attacks every game with the potential to become goal opportunities, also depending of his teammates of course. High risk in low risk-high gain areas is his game, and he usually produces lots of good moments to go with a regular little heap of frustrating ones, IMO.

yesterday, I’d say he misplaced most of his passes (not literally, haven’t counted), a lot of them easy ones, and almost nothing came off or produced anything. Many times his passes were blocked because he dithered, which is the opposite of the usual for him. Normally he is one of our best players even if you subtract the goals and assists from the game, but yeaterday, to me, he was one of our worst. Apart from that scintillating beauty of a goal.

Very ambitious and driven, but also likes to dive, playact, moan and pout a lot, doesn't he?
Excuse me for saying this, but he comes across as a bit of a Luis Suarez-type character.
Or am I only saying this because he has a bit of a Luis Suarez-type face?
No, you are correct. He's probably the biggest play-actor the league has seen since Suarez. However, at least he doesn't try to hurt people like Suarez. That was the most disgusting thing.

It's kind of telling that everyone is getting better when they leave United. I have said it before and I say it again, and I think Michael Cox wrote an article on it, it's very little that differs most footballers at this level. It's all about a pattern of play, given the opportunity, confidence, and timing. I think his example was Pepe at Arsenal, how difficult it is to come in and make an impression in a non-functional team. I say we don't give enough credit to Bruno. Elite mentality. Not many can do what he does. Back to Lingard, really glad he's doing well. But as I said, he has a manager who trusts him, a fresh start, and his confidence back in a team that is doing well. That's all some need. Maybe we can think about when we slatter the Evans, the Smalling, the Lukaku next time.
This is an interesting line of thought.

I often give Bruno grief for his sloppiness, but the fact that he's always producing despite the less than ideal conditions bears huge credit. One can only wonder just how potent he'd be under perfect conditions.

This place is really strange. Even if he plays like crap and gets a goal, that's more than most players in the league, let alone club. And I don't even think he played like crap. You have Martial who can't be arsed to move. Then there is Rashford who can't finish. That leaves a 34 year old Cavani.

And this is not even factoring in defensive screw ups, a GK who's forgotten GKeeping, 2 CBs that don't work together. Fred/McT for defensive midfielders. He will end up with 25 odd goals from the MF and a dozen assists. What else is he supposed to do?

I am really depressed reading this forum right now. We are 2nd in the league (unexpectedly) and the player who single-handedly carried us since he joined, our best post SAF signing in terms of output, the trump card that converts losses into draws and draws into wins, is getting such flak here.

Obviously he is having to do everything himself. Even follows opposition midfielders through the length of the pitch to make a tackles after bursting his lung match after match. I don't think we deserve him really. This is pure regression to the average playing out in front of us. He has been so good for so long consistently that the only direction he could have gone was down. Also he has hardly had a rest as he is playing almost every match at 110% intensity.

His game will eventually fall off if others don't step up. No one can play with this intensity for very long (well, unless your name is Messi/CR7) and carry the team.

God help him when his form actually does drop off and goals+assists dry up. We will be having "why does every good player that starts strong turns shit" type discussions here about Bruno.

It's strange though because we've been applying this phrase or a variant of to his all-round form for what feels like so long now.

In fact I've just looked back at his 2020 performance thread and people were beginning to complain about the dip in his overall performances (when compared to his brilliant early start) as far back as June of last year.

Perhaps this just speaks to the knee-jerk propensity of the forum in a wider sense but the nonetheless the debate over his individual moments of brilliance versus supposed weaker aspects of his overall game has continued unabated.

Certainly it seems reasonable to ask as to whether he'll return to the same levels of brilliant consistency he reached during his first few months at the club.
