Every game results in 20 more pages of throwing shit at one of our players. By far the most active thread on the caf.

Why don’t you guys give it a rest?

Also, can we please have fecking stats to show that Martial “just strolls around and doesn’t track back”? He’s been tracking back fine this season.

Anything that helps us understand you lot aren’t making stuff up from your arses?

How does he have a rating of 5.2 ? It should be half of that.

Don't get me wrong, i'd be happy if he starts banging in goals but his form has fallen of a cliff and its no blip, its been a year now.

Tomorrow hopefully will be the start of Martial's, season coming alive. As I mentioned earlier, not sure shifting him to the left is helping (of course I have no clue what goes on in training), I reckon he should be battling it out with Cavani. Cavani getting the nod for now as he's been the better player.

He had some battles on the left side with Rashford earlier in his career when they pushed each other, so there's little reason why he can't do that with Cavani.

Not been a year at all - later than this time last year he was banging in goals for fun. I take your point though, it's been a while.

Let's hope MMM can get some momentum going tomorrow. He and Rashford used to obviously look for each other, but this season they seem to be ignoring each other. Hope they get some cohesion going, we're going to need it!

Your post history currently is all about throwing shit at Rashford and Greenwood. Those two are our players too right? Practice what you preach. :nono:

But what does that have to do with the issue of Martial's current form?

It feels like leading down another road of excuses.
I never said that was a contributing factor to his current form. I think maybe you need to try reading before replying.

He’s been poor this season and I doubt the persistent racial abuse is helping at this stage, almost like a vicious circle. He actually seems to be getting worse rather than improving.
He doesn't have to read papers or surf the Internet.
Look I'm not condoning the abuse its vile but its not an excuse for his form.

Yes he is a beacon of hardworking player. Sure. The sooner he leaves the better.
Never said that, said he worked hard. Honestly, some of the reading and comprehension skills on this forum are fecking laughable.

Are you saying because he chooses to read the paper and surf the internet, he's at fault for the abuse? Christ almighty.

Weird response to be honest. I didn’t say it was the reason; just doubtful that it’s helping the situation. And do you honestly think he wouldn’t know what was being said online, regardless of whether he reads it directly?

My good god how on earth did you come up with that?

Read it again and try to understand what I said.

Sell him. I’m fed up of arrogant french players who think they are better than they are. He’s a mercenary doesn’t care about the club cut our losses and free to his space for a nee number 9. Just too lazy and not good enough.

Whats weird that abuse was even brought into it. He's been in shite form for a long time before abuse surfaced. Footballers have been targets of abuse for ever.
They need to be mentally strong. I think that's obvious.

And let me be totally clear here I totally condemn any form of abuse especially racist abuse aimed at Martial and any/all players or people. Its vile and disgusting and there is no place for it.

I think you’re completely missing the point here. Martial started the season poorly. He has also in the past displayed good form for United. Is it really that strange to suggest that the torrent of racial abuse he has endured of late (probably sparked in some ways by said poor form), could potentially affect his motivation moving forward, and ability/desire to recover his form?

Genuinely interested, sorry if I'm coming across a little aggressive, just a little pissed off with this whole abuse scandal and can be a bit defensive.

It’s a ridiculous thing to say to be honest. If @McGrathsipan had a friend or family member that was receiving racist abuse online, would he honestly turn round to them and say ‘you don’t have to read the paper or surf the web’? Of course they wouldn’t, because it would be an absurd response.

Disagree. Greenwood is in exceptional form, unless you meant solely goalscoring wise, in which case I agree because he seems to be lacking there too of late.
Exceptional? I strongly disagree. I don't like what I'm seeing from him at all plus I notice recently he's barely tryna pass to teammates bar the Southampton game.
Hopefully he plays great Thursday and scores too, anyways this isn't his thread.

What is it - seven goals this season? From our supposed main striker.

It's very, very underwhelming.

Cavani has the same number of goals, I think - in less games and far less starts. And he's a 34 year old who was never brought in as a default starter up front.

You need special pleading to defend Martial this season - it really is as simple as that. He needs to step up dramatically - and quickly.

To be fair I used to rate him when I made this account. Not anymore he just doesn’t seem bothered in the slightest. We need an animal. Imagine us with Haaland. I’d sell both Rashford and Martial in a heartbeat for him. Proper player.

We're having trouble creating chances. Signing Haaland doesn't fix that.

The way I read it at first was that he expects Martial to not to use the simple comforts we all enjoy because otherwise he's at fault for his drop in form (probably exacerbated by the abuse and death threats against him and his family), which for me comes across as victim blaming. I'm hoping I'm wrong because that seems pretty sick to me.

I hate the abuse as well. Its not OK.. we are agreed there so let's stay friends.

Now.. I did not say he chooses.
I said he doesn't have to. And he shouldn't.
Footballers have been on the end of abuse for ever. They should ignore it. The should be given guidance and help to ignore it.

But I do think its a separate issue to Martials form. Its not going to help his mood now that's its happening thats obvious but his form in my opinion hasn't been good for alot longer than this abuse issue.

Agreed, I don't think the racism and abuse triggered this form at all. I think it compounds it certainly though.

I had quite a lot of racist and xenophobic abuse thrown at me through the years and to this day and honestly when it happens to me I couldn't give any amount of shits. But I do appreciate that it does affect different people differently and that it can really affect some people deeply and the onus shouldn't be on the victim to change their habits but rather to help the abusers change their behaviour and outlook.

I hope that Martial can turn it around because he's my favourite player and for me one of the most exciting players in the world to watch on form but I can see this ending in a very ugly manner if his form continues and I think the racism and abuse will only make it uglier.

I apologise for getting worked up bud, didn't mean to insinuate anything.

To be fair mate that’s basically what I was saying. He has definitely been poor this season prior to the abuse, but I can’t see the current situation being conducive to him recovering his form.

When you see the likes of Eddy & Haaland you realise how far away Tony is from being a proper no 9

He looks so much slower this season. Everything looks so labored. Nice skills though.

Decent when he came on today, but still probably not enough to warrant a place back in the team. Can't trust him yet.

Better tonight. Given his lack of confidence right now, it’s no surprise that he’s showing much more in cameos when we’re winning comfortably and there’s less pressure to make an impact (as was the case against Southampton).

Same, he kept the ball well enough but he was positioned far too deep, nor did I see any real desire to get in the box to get on the end of crosses, which was disappointing considering the stupidly high line they were using.

Say what you want about Martial but for me he’s still an absolute joy to watch at times. Silky smooth!
