We are much better and more solid with Henderson in goal. The few threatening moments from Roma last night would have been avoided with a more proactive keeper.

Hard to criticise a keeper on a penalty but his technique was poor, a stronger spring he would have saved it I'm sure.

I'd like to see Henderson play in the remaining games with meaning, play De Gea the last few Premier League games once positions are secured.

Analysis of de Gea penalty saving technique vs Roma
It seems very obvious once someone points it out.

The other interesting thing that guy noted is that De Gea's career record is about average on penalties but he's been on a long run of not saving them in recent years. Given he was so much better at them earlier in his career, I wonder if he changed technique at some point?

Struggled watching DeGea's lifeless body language, poor..indecisive distribution. Wasn't at fault for any of the goals but I was surprised how much I noticed when contrasted the two. Been a huge fan of Henderson and was opposed to overpaying David 3 yrs ago when he was clearly in decline..(nobody pays that kind of $$ for a goalkeeper).

He's certainly not coming back for us. He's been sub-par for too long.

I wouldn't be in the slightest bit surprised if a transfer away sparked a revival in his form though. People talk about his reflexes slowing but from what I've seen his issues are mostly in his own head. New surroundings, new team, new coaches and new challenges may re-spark his career. Particularly if he goes to a team that suits his style of keeper. He looks like someone who needs a fresh start.

Might be true a new challenge might give him the spark that is sorely missing

won’t make him come off his line though. Clearly that’s the type of keeper he is and, in fairness, it’s got him unbelievably far but he won’t change. We need a more proactive presence in goal. Not full on mad rushes off line like Ederson but someone capable of helping out his defenders.

I fully agree.

It’s not too often that a GK that concedes 3 goals is a MotM by a mile. If not for de Gea’s supremacy we would have conceded 8 or 9 today

That was a 17/18 De Gea performance. Unbelievable saves

His best game in two seasons and he conceded 3 goals. Saved us tonight, not from losing but without him I’m not sure we would have reached the final.

The reason this game didn't turn into an absolute mess. Without him this could have turned really tricky.

Fantastic performance.

Bet he was thinking beforehand that it was going to be a quiet night!

perhaps that’s a shop window performance.

If he goes this summer I’ll be pretty sad.

If it wasn't for De Gea we might not be going to Gdansk. Not often you concede three as a keeper but still deserve man of the match. Shades of 2017-18 tonight.

Vintage De GOAT.

His passing was really nice too. Those clipped balls to Wan-Bissaka.

He was more vocal than usual too. Couple of times you heard a loud 'KEEPERS' on crosses.

Clear MOTM. Nice to see him put in such a performance... Though it meant having to watch our defence do that, which wasn't nice

Dunno. Can’t help but feel that a goalkeeper with better leadership and command of his area wouldn’t have had all those shots to attempt to save.

He made some nice saves, but did absolutely nothing to take control of our defensive area.

in the first half, before the game got so intense, i was half urging roma on just to see what he'd pull off.
felt like the lvg seasons, when he was both the best performer and the best entertainer on the team.

Magnificent goalkeeping from him with many of the shots at point blank range. It goes to show how his positioning is severely underrated.

I can't believe that there were still posters sh*tting on him in the matchday thread claiming that the chances came about because De Gea doesn't calm the defence and that with Henderson it wouldn't have happened. :houllier:

That was a pretty good display of shot-stopping but the defense (which includes him) was rather shambolic as a whole.

I think you're all overrating that performance tbh, a lot just hit him rather than it being amazing save after amazing save

Top top performance.

Could have been a close game had he not put in that performance

Would be nice if some of our defenders tried doing that.

One of his best ever performances for the club. Not in top-3, but probably in top-5. Mkhitaryan's reaction after De Gea's nutmeg save says it all.

Not sure why our backline decided to stay in the dressing room for the second half.

I can't remember one cross that he should have claimed, or one through ball that he should have come out for.
