I would reserve my judgement until we see him under a completely different manager, that knows what he is doing and maybe not rushing players at every opportunity to save his shortcomings.

He has been bad this season, i have said it as well, but he was very good the years before. This is not something new, 90% of the caf had him under the top 10 CBs before the season. 2 bad months after the EC and under a rookie manager that rushed him back dont change that, especially when the whole team is falling apart. You guys look for scapegoats all the time. Just relax a bit and look at the bigger picture. You are only as good on here as your last 5 games.
Pretty much all the players are in the same boat there.

His time at United has been mixed, doubt you'd find that many fans who'd describe it as very good. He's had periods like that, but he's had periods where he's been shocking.

He’s obviously being exposed because there’s no consistent safe option given in front of him when he’s in possession.

His horrid lack of ball control and lack of system play has done him in

Comical way to get yourself sent off!

Add to that the show he made celebrating a goal for England.

What a clown!

Yeh I get that tensions and emotions are high right now but someone in this thread said he’s on the level of Di Maria, a literal snake who ran at the first sign of trouble. Christ what has Maguire done to deserve that? It will be funny though coming here in a years time under a new manager when he’s back to playing well and all these people will have swept these comments under the rug again.
If we get a new manager and Maguire is still captain and starting CB in a few years, we will not be winning major throphies

Smalling was by miles a better defender. It's funny to see how ridiculous some of many posters comments were talking about Maguire being the best in the league. Bow your heads in shame and get to Specsavers free eye test with NHS.

Smalling looked awkward with his passing. that gave many the impression he was a bad player. He wasnt that bad.

Shouldn’t be captain when a new manager comes in. Shouldn’t be a United player given current form. He’s symbolic of what’s going on at the moment too.

Piss take that he is in the team that contains Ronaldo.
I was looking at the league table and we have conceded the third highest goals this season, joint with Leicester. He’s the leader of that defence so part of the buck stops with him.

80million pound international aswell. Terrible.

I never liked him. He's too slow to play in a high line defense and he never stuck me as a particularly intelligent player let alone a leader. He's the type of CB a small tier/mid tier team would want to add more bodies at the back.

That's what worried me about the England celebration. He was more concerned about hushing his critics than continuing a good run of form, and actually bringing those performances back to the club.

Worst thing about his red card is also the timing. I'm certain we score more until the moment

His first yellow was ridiculous too

He is and there's no shame in that. The guy is a beast physically wise. If a car hits him then there's a possibility that it would get hurt. He's not too bad with the ball, he's a threat in corners and if properly guided by an experienced CB then he'll be a very valid CB. Maguire is good for a Leicester type of team or even the national team, however there are too many teams who are happy with a draw against United which means that we have to commit more bodies upfront. That means a high line of defense which in turn require pacey defenders. Maguire lack that. He also lack that superb positioning the likes of Carrick were blessed with.

He’s easy to dislike because he’s been shite, but 90% of the team have been right there with him. He actually played well today prior to the red. I just don’t see him as a dislikable character do I don’t get why people would hate him so much.
‘90%’ haven’t been ‘right there’ with him though. He’s far & away our worst player this season. Which is a good effort considering.
I think it’s quite clear from this thread that he gets more stick at Utd captain than he would in another club and that’s just a fact. I mean the fact people are saying he’s “dislikable” despite being a nice guy and true professional says it all about how toxic this fan base can be when they decide they don’t like someone.
You’re doing a terrible job as his PR. ‘nice guy’, ‘true professional’, just intangible nonsense.

‘true professionals’ don’t spend 3 years at the club dawdling on the ball at the back trying to look like a ball playing CB when they aren’t one. He’s been a terrible signing, won us nothing & in his time here had some of the worst player performances, yet posters like you call him a ‘nice guy’ based on what? This ‘nice guy’ the same one that went into a presser saying he didn’t need to be there, after shipping 5 to Liverpool. The same ‘nice guy’ that’s had a terrible season but puts his fingers to his ears for his ‘doubters’ to only justify those doubters criticisms a week later.

The man has done nothing of note in his time here & has actually held us back. He’s actually been shielded for longer than he should have been & now the house of cards are falling it’s not ‘Lindelofs fault’ or ‘give him a proper DM’.

Would you call someone who goes to Greece during the covid travelling ban and get arrested as professional? What about putting his sickening gesture towards critics after being shit for 2 months? Is that being professional? We had some difficult captains in the past including Roy Keane. We also had some not so great captains talent wise like for example Steve Bruce, Gary Neville or Ashley Young. However all our captains had one thing in common. They understood what playing for this club means. There are standards at United and if they aren't reached then the only way to go around it is to put your head down and work hard. Maguire hides behind how mean critics are or how unfair the Greek police were. Well he's running out of excuses.

Defensively, i rated him as one of the best. He pocketed fecking Messi, Mbappe, Suarez, and Hazard. And he didn't cost 80m either.

Unfortunately, he didn't fit the manager successful philosophy of building from the back. So this manager decided to ship him out and keep Jones, Bailly, and Rojo.

Not even worth responding too. The man hasn’t been a bad player for two seasons and that’s all I care about. He’s a nice guy on top of that, nothing more to see.

You don’t seriously thing Maguire is a worse captain than Young or Valencia do you?

Pathetic performance again and supposedly captain material? No fight or confidence in his game and it spreads to the rest of the defence and the team. Lead by example, dont get sent off and high 5 the manager on the way down the tunnel ya muppet.

Mr Maguire,

I'm living in a country whose currency is one of the weakest one against £. There are so many defenders in that national league who can run 3 times faster than you , able to marking and positioning 8 times better than you. Interestingly, they are paid almost %20 of your salary. What is your magic ? How many goals United will concede cause of you ?

Sincerely

Good run of form? The clown celebrated scoring a goal which is not really his job and not why the club wasted 80 million on him. He did the celeb as he's obviously feeling the heat and a goal against sub par opposition doesn't change a thing. He's a wanker who's playing like he's trying to get his boss the sack, same as Luke Shaw. cnuts the pair of em.

Keane is right. Van Der Vaart is right. An average player. Poor attitude. Awful captain. He should be leading by example. Far too often he is to one culpable for making stupid mistakes and giving away stupid goals.

He gets away relatively easy because he plays for England. It would be a lot worse if he was from somewhere else.

He gets stick because his performances are not good enough. If he was putting in good performances (as we should expect from a captain and a player supposedly worth 80 million), then nobody would care if he was a prick.

Got to feel sorry for any England player having to sit on the bench watching Maguire.

In hindsight, selling Smalling was the right decision because of the number of injuries he had after leaving the club.

The problem of course we kept another two players who are permanently injured and bought one who never looked good enough for a top team and was always a part of leaky defenses.
