Crucial header clearance got him bruise, but that's exactly what stone wall defending needs to be.

Damn people are so sour when he has a good game. A clean sheet.

I absolutely loved his long range passes from the back today - was switching lanes very quick and accurately.
He switches that pass to Dalot every time. You can set your clock to it so there’s nothing particularly impressive about it in my opinion.

WTF are you talking about???   The agenda is real around here
He takes too much time on the ball in my opinion or don’t you know what ponderous means?

What agenda are you talking about? He was okay — lindelof was better. On todays showing id much prefer Lindelof and Varane objectively speaking so again what fecking agenda?

You and your stupid fecking smileys.

Much better and he seems to be getting his confidence back. Lindelöf probably had a better game but we don't need to start comparing them until Varane comes back. At this point I'm just happy with a clean sheet.

Pretty good game overall but he puts so much pressure on Telles because some of his passes. Passing to your fullback while they are under pressure should be avoided, some of his passes to Dalot are good though

Those aren't "smiley's" and they aren't mine. That is me laughing at you. And yes, it is an obvious agenda.

Solid performance by Maguire, but Lindelof was clearly in command of the back line. It will be interesting to see who sits down when Varane is back.

I gave my assessment on Maguire — he was okay but I’d like him to make up his mind up a bit quicker.

I’m not the first, or the second person to mention this particular trait that he has. There’s a prominent thread about it on the caf which was made in the first season we signed him.

It’s not an agenda. I think he’s a good player going through tough period but if Rangnick will have his way — which will involve us playing a lot faster — Maguire will need sort his feet out a bit quicker.

It’s not unreasonable to think Varane Lindelof axis may be preferred choice for Rangnick, long term.

I have given a lot of stick this season but credit where its due, he was pretty good today.

Just hope he pass a bit sooner than he usually does

Oh, well, if there's a thread about it it must be true

Made some important headers but I've mentioned in the match day thread his passing is just appalling. When passing out wide to telles (or shaw) he's passing a yard or so behind the run of the left back. Milliseconds in football are the difference sometimes. Also his passes lack pace and intensity.

His long crossfield balls are also way to slow and sometimes just about reach the winger/right back. Annoying little flaws.

I thought he had a solid game, by far his best this season, but he was not perfect today the long range passes where not the Scholes style where they were pinged at a player but they were lofted passes which sometimes they were very good but a number of times he but Dalot in trouble as the ball was in the air so long that the Palace player could either intercept or be in the best position press Dalot.

Solid today but it was Crystal Palace after all, He really needs to speed up on the ball though. Takes him an age to release it at times compared to Lindelof.

One of the many different players that looked like a completely different outfit, and it's only 3 days in.

Really hope he puts that nightmare run behind him for good.

It is not haters and he take ages to decide what he is going to do with the ball. By that time, an opposing player is on him.

Fair play to Harry. He played well today. The stuff about playing forward from Rangnick clearly hit home with him.

He has been shocking since we lost at Leicester (arguably since before that). However, his upward tick in form has been noticeable since his return from suspension. Hopefully he's over the dip.

Yeah, continues to improve. Similarly shite in the early part of last season before finding his stride. Lindelof was fantastic today, though. He'll need to keep that up to have a chance of keeping his place. Ido feel Ralf doesn't hold much stock in reputations though. I hope we're entering a genuine meritocracy.

I dislike everything about him. He wasn’t “good” today, he was “somewhat adequate” and showed no more than the palace defenders did.

Had hardly anything to do. Which is good. But you still have to say that forwards like Palaces have the potential to give him trouble so it was pleasing to see that he could function as part of an aggressive defensive setup and not look exposed.

Maybe it’s just my prejudice against him then, but I thought we seemed far less incisive and penetrating than Lindelof. Like his brain moves in slow motion.

You could see he was always a few yards behind the rest though due to his lack of pace/vulnerability to be turned. Not sure if it was part of the plan but don’t recall him stepping up and playing the offside much/at all.

His passes may have found their man but they all got their slowly and quite often behind them or right at them. A good pass gives a player something to run on to. Maguire doesn’t seem to understand that. The number of times Telles had to stop a run to collect the pass was ridiculous.

I think you may be nitpicking a bit. You can play this way without an abundance of pace in every position, the Italian defenders have shown this. If he drops off at the right times and gets tight at the right times it shouldn't be a massive hinderence but obviously he's going to have to adjust and he's also at a low ebb which is probably influencing his decisions. The more confidence he gets I'd wager the more authoritative he'll be.

Long-term it would be better to have Varane as part of the defence, even Ole could see this as it's fairly obvious you want pace too but at the moment we have to work with Lindelof and Maguire and they implemented it well.

Best thing he did yesterday was that headed clearance late in the second half. Stuck his face where it hurt. Other than that, I thought he was the least impressive of the back four. He is the only player that takes more than two touches in our half. Initially I thought it was on Ole's instruction. Now starting to think it's just Maguire. Either way, it'll need to be coached out of him. Also, choice of passes, placement and zip will need to be improved so he stops getting other players in trouble.

I think the passing criticism is somewhat fair within this style. Maguire would probably excel under Louis's zombie football!

I've never got my head around why he is so slow with it. Almost as if he lacks belief and needs to reassure himself with touches.

I do think this is 100% solvable because he's not a shit passer. He's clearly got very good technique. The consistency of his long passing is usually very good and that doesn't happen if you have poor ability. He doesn't really give it away. He definitely has the ability to do it, and I'm 100% sure it's something this manager will pick up on.

Well you let that dislike cloud your mind then, Maguire was good this game wether you like it or not.

Atleast try to be fair in your assessments

Exactly, was playing like a proper ball playing CB today.

It just feels like people want to complain for any reason. Ultimately it was a clean sheet performance with good passing.
