Bottas's biggest issue in qually was his inability to brake as late as lewis. Lewis has always been exceptionally good on the brakes. It will be a good test for george over the course of the season to see how he does in qually.Russell will take time to adjust. Hamilton may be in the latter stages of his career, but people so easily forget that he’s a very, very fast racing driver. I expect Russell will not have the same distance in qualifying between him and Hamilton as Bottas did, assuming he settles into the car. And I do expect he will be closer to Hamilton than Perez. But I still think Hamilton will still have the edge. It’s a lot easier to push the car right to the limit in a Williams when you know you have to have a chance, to be in a competitive car fighting for pole.
Also russell has a driving style which is reminiscent of Button, Prost and Jackie Steward. Very smooth, so the car may suit his style or it may not. Lots of unknowns.
A previous poster mentioned Perez have great racecraft but not so great in qually. Schmacher, despite his poles was never known for his one lap pace, he had outstanding racecraft. Alonso is another not known for his one lap pace, but his expectional racecraft.
