Those who are grumbling about giving the players a "clean slate" need to go through a management 101 course.

Its not just football, even in a corporate organization a good manager never throws the existing resources out of the window immediately. You are always supposed to assess the resources, see how they can improved and only when improvement is no longer possible, you ask for further resources. ETH is also doing the same thing.

Expecting ETH to throw all players out simply because the media and you guys have superficially decided that they are bad, is a extremely premature and baseless thought.
Sounds beautiful but far away from reality. ETH already wants 7 new players and ditch some if he has his way. How does it match this "a good manager never throws the existing resources out of the window immediately."? :D

I get the feeling that the forum is just a sounding board to get crap off their chest and they would use United as their online pinata ie projections. Such over the top emotional reactions -- the matchday threads are the most amazing and amusing. You wonder if people are even watching the same match. Its all about the prisms/narrative that they have attached to the players or the manager.

Then the transfer window is also full of contridictions. United is so bad at this -- we always over-pay. Then we the current team is driving a hard bargain, caftards will say just pay them and get it over & done with.
People just need to calm down. Sure players, managers and club administrators have made mistakes in the past but its pointless harping on about it when we have an almost new team in place.

As a Citeh fan once sang, Don't look back in anger.

Move forward and enjoy the new ride.

Absolutely.

The trouble with our fans is that the moronic, whingy ones are the most vocal. They collectively drown out saner voices.

I finally was able to watch the All or Nothing City documentary today. Well… two episodes. I know what you’re gonna say, as a football fan should of watched that as it’s not about rivalry, it’s an unreal insight bla bla bla whatever. I get it.

But it was painful.

The thought of seeing how well City have done and how much better they are than us with a giant magnifying glass didn’t appeal to me. At all.

Here I am two episodes in and it’s done the reverse effect to what I anticipated. I’m even more hopeful for us this season. Watching Pep and how madly into winning with style he is, I’m here salivating at the prospect of potentially having our own version.

A controlling mad bald genius who is obsessed with playing the beautiful game.

Ten Hag seems to be a man fully aware of what he is walking into. He has his reputation on the line. If he fails, he will have to take a step back and build himself up again. The risk is very high. I feel bringing Frenkie, Antony and Timber/Martinez adds even more pressure to that. What I’m trying to say… this is a big gamble.

You don’t throw yourself into a frying pan this hot if you didn’t have the balls to carry out the job to the best of your god damn ability. That is confidence. He didn’t have to come here. I know it isn’t charity, as he is getting paid a fortune, has financial backing and has had a significant rise in his stock/profile. But he could of stayed at Ajax and used his reputation to take the next big job that becomes available. Lucky for us he didn’t. He is here because he knows he can turn this around.

We are a catch if you make us a great team again, as our global status is still strong.

I’m now going to inject some positivity into your veins without your permission. Sorry not sorry.

3…2…1…

He’s gonna win us the Prem in his first season.

Someone had to say it incase it came in. Don’t quote me.

We need more of this about the place

We actually played well in LVG’s first few games in the PL. I remember solid attacking football. Then that game happened and for some reason LVG decided to scrap everything and go to some shitty defensive possession nonsense
Was it that famous Leicester game which broke him?

i think we got a manager in van gaal who was in a phase of defaulting to defensive possession position. He done the exact same thing in the semifinal 2014 world cup against argentina when it was plain to see , if he had went for the jugular Argentina was there for the taking.

We were beaten by Swansea at home and then drew with Sunderland and Burnley in LVG's first few PL games. Don't know what you're remembering there.

I don't buy this, players like Telles, Tuanzebe, AWB, Bailly, Jones will likely leave as reported.

 it gets us all during pre season. I'm sure if we end up with a summer of Malacia, Martinez, de Jong, Eriksen and Antony, we'll shape a lot better as they'll all be familiar with how he wants to play and it'll help him implement his style quicker. And who knows, possibly another signing if we get lucky and sell some crap.
Yeah, the excitement is rife - moreso because he was my (and from what i recall 90%+ on the Caf) favorite choice. But yeah, need to show some patience.

I‘m stumped as to how the midfield is going to work? Van Beek, FDJ, Bruno and Fred or Mctommy isn’t exactly inspiring.
Have a little faith In Erik. He is going to add a core player in every line -defense, midfield and attack. He knows Martinez, he knows FdJ. He knows DvdB. If you have one that knows all the drills and how he wants to play. It will make it easier to get the rest into the fold.

I agree with what a lot are saying about TH and the clean slate. He cant feck them all off in one go and if hes trying to rebuild confidence cant really say anything else. We already lost 5 and I do think another 2, maybe 3 will permanantly leave this summer. I bet in another 2 windows most of the first team will be his own players though, players bought in or promoted.

A clean slate is not the issue. The issue, previously, has been the reluctance to act upon clear evidence (at that time) that even after a clean slate certain individuals did not show improvement.

In regards to ten Hag, I'm happy for him to approach this squad with a clean slate mentality, providing he has the sufficient ruthlessness to act decisively where others have shown reticence.

Yup that one
Actually this squad was very decent.

But yeah, Blackett and Rojo in starting lineup and what an attacking trio Rooney-Falcao-van Persie. Midfield Di Maria - Blind - Herrera... not bad at all.

Many of these players will let him down. But I am confident he won't persist with them.
Agree. He has no loyalty to any of these players and if they do not perform he will not hesitate to get rid. Think Arnold and Co. will also show they will not take the nonsense Woodward did.

This is absolutely key to him succeeding or not.

It's going to be very difficult to move so many on thanks to the wages they were put on. Jones, Bailly, Martial are the main culprits. Probably a few others as well.

When's his first interview? Will it be on tour? I'm looking forward to hearing what he' got to say in more detail.

Those complaining about the clean slate comment are the same that are up in arms that we haven't signed anyone yet or sold half the squad. Quite clearly the squad is not as bad as how they played last season whilst not being good enough to challenge for anything. When you take into account the following 1) majority of these players will be here next season so we need them to feel confident (we saw what happens to this squad when the manager constantly slates them) 2) Ten Hag has a reputation for working with players that fans would say are not good enough 3) we can only realistically sell so many players before we out ourselves in danger of not having enough bodies in the squad.

As someone else has said a lot of people are complaining for the same of complaining. Which is silly because after experiencing the utter shite of the past however many years this is the one time where we should actually be enjoying the ride and seeing what EtH can do.

Might mean we have to take what we can for some, you never know he might get a tune out of Martial is he feels wanted and it is a good system he puts into play.

To be fair, people were saying the same thing in Van Gaal's first summer with us. We were playing Tiqui-Taca football in that pre-season tour with Rooney, Ashley Young, Kagawa, Valencia...etc.

With LVG the philosophy wasn't the problem, it was the players he bought. Non-technical unintelligent players in tiki taka will always look dull. Imo there's even a real possibility we look blunt in ETH's first season if the majority of our squad turns out to be incompatible with his style. We need to first of all weed out who isn't up for it before we even talk about improving them. Not all our players are quick thinking or even think at all. First couple months is a screening exercise.

Hawahyuu seems to be ten Hag's go to.

We had "I sink" with Jose and "No dow abou tha" with Fergie. There were too many LVGisms to quote.

Makes me wonder if ten hag can get anything out of Martial. I hope he can. There's alot of ability in martial, and now that he's got rid of his mrs, maybe he can focus on being the footballer we all know he can be. Unlikely of course, but there's always hope..
I agree with this post up to the end of the bolded part. After Pogba, Martial was (IMO) our most naturally gifted player, albeit perhaps that has changed with Sancho being here now, but the point being he has a lot of ability. If ETH can somehow unlock that in a consistent manner it could be amazing.

We love a manager with a unique soundbite or catchphrase.

Fergie: "there's no dow aboot that"
LVG: "I want my playersh to be horny"
Ole: " We showed character"
ETH: "HOW ARE YOU?!"
