Had another film night with the kids, and this time we watched The Sea Beast, an animated Netflix film that came out not too long ago. In a setting similar to pirate movies, 'hunters' chase enormous sea beasts to kill them, get the bounty, and keep the seas and lands safe. A young orphan manages to join the most famous ship, but then discovers something very surprising.
It was really quite good. The dialogues are sometimes a little too predictable and there are some gaps in the story. (I suppose the island with creature serves to set up a potential sequel, but what about the witch's price? Is it just that Captain Crow lost his profession? That's not quite what it sounded like.) But other than that, it's a fun romp, with good action and adventures, fun and tension, heart, diversity (yes, that's nice to see), and also great animation.
It was done by the guy who directed Big Hero 6 and co-directed Moana, for me some of Disney Animation's better films, so I guess he's good at this stuff. 8/10
