Again this is another misrepresentation of what the Man himself said. The only player he was referring to in that situation was DeGea. One player isn't the 'team'. Only one of the 4 goals we conceded was due to not bypassing the press.

And believe it or not, teams have bad days. It doesn't have to be because they aren't following instructions. City and Pep have one game a season where they get battered similarly, I doubt the same nonsense about "players not listening" get trotted out for him too.
Looking at the amount of notes he took and the disbelief in his face I am sure that there were more things.

However you are right he didn't say more and I am interpreting more than he actually said.

madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

these players will get him sacked. It’s just facts at this point. Problem is we have 2 weeks to sort it, it’s all been left too late (as per usual) and we’re now scrambling around in the dark getting whatever players we can over the line.

after all the problems with the squad, the season we had last season.. we needed early business. We needed to go into pre season with a fair few new signings in this squad to bed in. We needed tough decisions like DDG, maguire, shaw, mcfred and Ronaldo. We needed wholesale changes. We got none.

The only players we have lost are players at end of contracts and Perriera.

Not one really tough, hardline decision has been made yet. Not one.

i expected maybe a rashford sale, Maguire sale.. shaw maybe.. some of our mainstays who have done nothing of note. They’re all still here and starting in this squad and guess what? Same shite. Same results. Same mentality, same dross.

different manager.

I’m 100% team ETH. Just to put that point across.. but if he thinks he can get these players playing like contenders he’s in for a shock (one I think he’s getting in fairness).
I can't agree more.
The first scenario which comes to mind is that ETH thought he can get something out of the players and mould them to play his style - pressing, possession etc., which is a big mistake from him, it was clear from our recent past that our players can't do that. Ole tried it at the end and failed, Rangnick aswell.

The second scenario, which is more unlikely is that ETH tried to do early business, wanted to buy 5-6-7 new players but there aren't any clues to suggest that. We did not sell many in order to make room for new arrivals and the despair in the transfer market is increasing only after the 2 humbling displays in the first 2 matches. Let's be honest even with FDJ deal done 2 months ago the results couldn't been that different. Maybe the board promised him more players but couldn't get deals done, no one knows.

Anyway in the short term, I see 2 options:
- Either he adjusts to what we have and does what Ole did.
- Otherwise he is gone soon

He is going to have a great career somewhere where the management team and players believe in him. Sadly, that'll be at his next club because the writing is on the wall already. It's not just the two games but all the other things he's had to deal with - Board ineptitude, player power and leaks. It seems everyone in the club is willing to always make the Manager the scapegoat. "his style doesn't suit us" is absolutely ludicrous - you either adapt to the style the manager wants to play or you leave. Unfortunately the board will fail him there too because they will just hand new contracts out to the very people that are the problem.

Look at koudibily at Chelsea. A physical specimen, world class defender who in the 2 games at Chelsea has looked so so good. Exactly what we need in that back line. Why didn’t we try to get him? 33 million.

Kamara or bissouma who have gone to spurs and villa.. better than what we have. Now we’re looking at spending 60million on a brighton player they bought last season for 4.5 million or unattainable players.

what about nunes who has just gone to wolves, kid looks quality.

The list goes on but you get my point. This season should just of been about getting rid of this squad and bringing in better players or players with better mentality. The midfield is criminally short. Our defence shaky at best. Why didn’t we look at more attainable players that have ended up at our rivals.

Doesn’t make sense.

If what you are saying is true then it makes no difference what manager we bring in.

Given the transfer window we've had and the squad we've gone into the season with, what is a reasonable expectation for Ten Hag?

Would we accept 6th, 7th or 8th with an attempt to play good football and progress towards building a squad who can do that? Or would fans (and the club) prefer us to be more pragmatic (in terms of style of play and signings) and be in the battle for 4th?

Because frankly I think it's either/or. When we brought in Ten Hag we were signing someone with a style of play it would take time to implement. If we want him to ditch that (or him) because we're not getting immediate results, why bring him in in the first place.

I don't think it even makes sense to discuss the style of play. So far the players acted lazy and stupid. It doesn't matter which style of play they fail at.

These basic issues must be fixed first, and I don't care how. But I don't see any benefit in going for a more pragmatic style as a solution. Pragmatically standing around isn't any better than progressively standing around.

And if the players are suddenly not as lazy in a pragmatic style, they should all be sacked as then it would be clear that they are actively sabotaging what ETH tries to achieve.

We have played 433 so far. Casimero would be a massive improvement to the balance of the side

What if no bugger wants to buy them, I mean who would we sell Maguire to who'll give a decent fee and take on his wages? I'd imagine we'd not want to lose the earth on a fee and then his wage has got to be 250k+ a week that's a lot and then the player would need to go.

I mean there is talk of us taking a 30 mill hit on AWB no business can sustain multiple losses like that on assets

Ajax & United, in that order

The club is suffering from the same problem that Barcelona is suffering from. Underperforming players on huge wages that they bought for huge sums. Except they're gambling away future earnings to spend like mad in the hopes of a short term success to turn it around while United has seemingly opted purposefully for a manager with a defined style of football to get more out of the current squad.

Only problem is that forget quality in general (which is also absent in most players), most simply can't play Ten Hag's style of football. You could have appointed Pep or Klopp two months ago and it wouldn't have worked either if they had to work with this trash.

A complete overhaul of the squad was needed, instead they placated the fans with an exciting manager to take attention away from their failings in the market year after year. Interested to see who the victim will be next year ...

Koulibaly would of been great for us, for a short term, solid defender with European experience and in serie A. But he's 30.
Bissouma also is PL proven and would of been better than McFred.

There are tens and hundreds of players that would have made us better, but instead we chased FDJ, similar with what Moyes did with Bale and Kroos.

Given the transfer window we've had and the squad we've gone into the season with, what is a reasonable expectation for Ten Hag?

Maybe I'm too pesimistic but no matter how we play we can't battle for 4th. Finishing between 5th and 7th is the maximum we can achieve this season imo, only a miracle can get us higher in the table.
I strongly believe that by continuing with what ETH has started with the same personnel would take us closer to relegation than finishing 7-8th.

Isn't he a City fan?
I have no idea, but he's definitely a dickhead (so it's likely). Always has to fit in a snarky comment and demean every single thing we do - now don't get me wrong, we're generally speaking totally incompetent, but his stance borders on the unprofessional when it comes to Utd.

oh we would have to take losses because their not worth what we paid. So it’s that or we keep them and play them; which is what I think is happening. I don’t think ETH had much choice, he’s got to try with these players due to their cost and contracts but while this is happening.. they can’t expect anything other than what we’re getting right now with this lot, so at what point does something give ?

I think it's interesting if a player of Casemiros profile is what hes after at 6 now.

That flies in the face of no CDM being wanted. With ball carriers and DLPs seen as his preference originally.

I think if it his choice, he's seen we're wide open, suspect when we lose the ball and he'd add height to win second balls.

Or of course, it has nothing to do with him and anything will do!

I think nobody wants pragmatic football over a long period. Van Gaal lost the group by how he prolonged his restrictive approach. Players felt like robots and were too afraid of making mistakes as they feared the rage from the ogre.

Herrera got a hairdryer after scoring away against Everton because he left "his position" to score the goal. No player can enjoy that type of management and I don't think any player or fan wants to see that garbage on a weekly basis again. After all if the majority of us pushed for ETH is to get something different and finally enjoy football. That said, in very specific circumstances it isn't a bad to give a little step back so you can keep moving forward, and this is probably one of these moments.

If we read the threads of all these players the conclusion seems to be universal: they're dog shit. But when they're asked to play an open, dominating brand of football and they miserably fail and recognize their limitations people act outraged and ask them to perform, evolve and adapt to those demands. It won't happen. Many of these players don't need to be coached, they need to be replaced.

If we're really targeting 4-5 signings as some reports say, ten Hag would be smart by avoiding a major bleeding in the next two games. There's no need to expose them anymore, he tried with this group and we got the message already, he noticed it too and changed our approach in the market, that's very much obvious.

Once he gets some ingredients in the coming weeks he can start cooking something. It won't be immediate but the process could start. There's no point now with some rotten potatoes.

Anyway and whatever he decides it should be respected, and it's clear that he needs relentless support from us and the club to dismantle this toxic, mediocre group. If he ends up sacked soon after a bad start that mediocrity won't be changed, actually it will reign the place after beating three managers in less than a year. The club need to make this work at any cost.

Should be brave and move on De Gea, Shaw, Maguire, McTom and Rashford. Theres £250 million in there
I don't see that at all. Who would ever pay those prices for them? They've been struggling for years and everyone knows it.

I bet some of our players are just as surprised as us that they're being given more chances despite how fecking crap they are. That's what happens when your owners can no longer be arsed to invest though.

I admit this Ten Hag bandwagon is starting to reek of dirty socks and broken dreams but we're two games in. Two games.

Wish he would have made a GK move right out the gate. Wish he would have moved Ronaldo too, that is a standard response to a new coach coming in to install a new culture. But he's dealing with a lot of BS with this team. Sometimes it's better to just take a step back from the cliff and enjoy the fine air up there.

This is why people say don't listen to pre season results.

We are a team that play well under no pressure. It's clearly a big mental and work rate problem our squad has. They down tools as soon as anything challenging comes around.

This will take a while to rebuild their mentality and confidence. I have faith that ETH can manage this, but results will probably be rocky for a while.

I do think though once we hit a winning run (has to happen eventually) then things will start to change quickly.

Arteta had a similar problem at Arsenal, but once they managed to make it click and found the right formula they were flying, now they look 3rd best in the country.

I needed that laugh
More like 25 million
Maybe 75 million if we're lucky but nobody is giving us big money for any of them
Maguire could easily fetch £50-60 million. He is still an important starter for England national team, Arsenal paid £50million for White who had 1 season under his belt. McTominay is fetching 40 million in this market seen as Forest just bought an unproven English player for 45 million P.S. Newcastle want him. Rashford is going for 60-70 million. Raphinha is not more productive than Rashford and went for similar. Shaw is fetching 25-30 million seen as Newcastle just signed a non international LB for 16million. De Gea is fetching £25 million.
If I am wrong, tell me what you think they would fetch and why?

I was echoing this all pre season. Didn't even bother watching the games. I am in my 30s. I seen Utd beat Barcelona and Cleverley outplay Xavi, only to get whooped when we play them in comp. Pre season is absolutely meaningless and I stand on that. Only use is seeing some youngsters although they end up disappearing as soon as the comp starts, never to be seen again
