Our teams post SAF have been lacking steel for nearly a decade, I didn't think we'd get it back from a midget from the dutch league

I was skeptical, not due to the height but just overall ability and adjusting to the league but he has been rock solid.

Mount himself went in hard on Martinez a few times prior to that moment.
Looked deliberate in the hopes of ruffling him and make him do something stupid.

Martinez is aggressive as hell, but he's too smart to be tricked like that.

His positioning is really good. He doesn't put himself in situations to get bullied due to his height he seems to defend on the basis of his profile. Compared to Maguire for example who will get sucked into areas where he's weak instinctively due to a lack of awareness so you can see how Martinez can read the game well. Compliments Varane very well.

Just in case anyone missed it. I don't like Mount.

Titan in defence. I worry one day one of these idiot refs will send him off for the pushing players but until that day, I love it.

He’s so-so good. On top of being an animal he’s technically wonderful. His passes through the line are a thing of beauty.

would still say the media praise for him is at best begrudging
I've noticed this. He's been probably our best player all season, yet I've not seen a pundit come forward and give him the praise he deserves. It's like their nervous to comment.

In Argentina more and more people are making pressure for Scaloni to start him along with Romero at the WC.

Otamendi with the NT plays very well though.

I was wrapped in despair but that push he gave jorghinio made everything worth it, also it didn't hurt that we equalized thereafter.

He's really clever with his shithousery as he never out stays his welcome so rarely if ever gets booked for it, I gotta say those things make it hard not to love him .

Also he really deserves to start the world cup on the back of his performances alone, hope he gets to experience that.

Yep. He is also wonderfully controlled in his aggression. You see him steam towards the ball but he’s always got just the right amount of restraint to not commit the foul.

I love those little diving headers he does to win back possession. I swear they usually lead to a good chance for us.

Player of the season so far. He is a also very smart with shithousery, I can't believe he isn't getting yellow cards every game.
Impossible not to love him.

That one where he slid in perfectly on Sterling, then gave him the classic shoulder barge on the way back. Similar to the Liverpool game.

There's an easy line in there about him only being able to win headers that are at knee height, but it actually seems a strangely effective technique for him!

If he goes with his leg on those dual type situations where he's slightly behind his man, the striker likely puts himself over it and gets given a cheap free kick.

He's one of those players you absolutely hate to play against in 5 aside. You know they are breathing down your neck and just aren't going to let you go. There going to pressure you right up your back and make it hard to get the ball under control all while not fouling you. It forces strikers to lose trust in their touch and focus too much on not being clattered than doing something with the ball.

He's having a Ruben Dias-esque impact on our defense and the league so far. Christ, it's about goddamn time we had a certified hit-signing. Love this guy...

ffs, how can you not love that.

If I was going to be sceptical, I'd think him, Richarlison and Ander Herrera all had the same PR bloke who must be the Einstein of his field.

There was a moment towards the end of the match where he knocks Jorginho to the ground.

My favourite player. What an absolute baller we've signed.

I absolutely love him. The new South American signings have added a-lot of fight and tenacity. You love to see it.

Where is the him being suspended for the next game coming from. The stat shows he only has 3 bookings.

It's just such a great asset to have in your team, I'm sure it really unsettles the opposition attackers when he roughs them up like that but just keeps it barely clean enough to escape a booking, must be so frustrating.

And as he showed it with mount he also has the temper and intelligent to no get suckered in to a bait like mount intended, such a presence he has.

I’d personally like to thank Timber for staying at Ajax and in particular LVG for discouraging it also

Absolutely, we need to send an entourage to present LVG with the most glamorous gifts. It’s the only thing I’ll ever be grateful to LVG for. Best thing he did for Utd.
