It's easy to enjoy it now because we won, but it'd be a different story if we hadn't.
If it cost us by ruining a chance to score but otherwise why? It seems to be such a taboo among British fans / media. Trickery isn't diving or play acting ffs

I didn't get to see the game, but is there truth in what I read on Twitter that he was mainly hooked because of this skill? If so, that's a bit ridiculous from ETH isn't it

My biggest concern is that he has to take his first touch on his left foot. Whenever a cross field ball is hit to him, he can't take it in his stride because he refuses to use his right
I think regardless of how he takes it, once he looks up and sees a full back, he’s going to head the other way invariably. It’s a problem. Especially if said full back is literally the only person in between him and open space. It’s very frustrating.

No because ETH isn't a muppet

He clarified it was already planned

I think he's been playing really well and his first touch is absolutely superb where on many occasions he's helped the team retain the ball and maintain control under heavy pressure. And that sort of ability is appreciated even more against the higher calibre of opponents. His link up play along with his defensive work is also brilliant.

I think one thing that would make us even more dangerous would be to have a central attacking player who has the ability to break the lines centrally via carrying/dribbling the ball which would open the game up even more for the forwards. And that would improve the total team dynamic further and it would make players even more dangerous in the attacking third.

Don't trust all the noises, especially on Twitter. I let Antony rest because we are having a PL match this weekend too. We have a very heavy schedule.

Look at the state of some of these posts   . Absolute dullards whose lives have been turned upside down just like British pundits’s by that one harmless move from Antony. Bloody hell.

You are like a 10 year girl when someone is after insulting her favorite boy band.

Saying the 'trick' was pointless is not overacting it is just commenting on it t.

The overreaction is having a meltdown just because you don't agree with someone else's opinion.

Every comment does not have an agenda it is just an opinion. If Scholes or someone else says they were not impressed by a bit play , that is all it means. It does not mean they have an agenda against he player.

Showboating is doing something theatrical for no purpose. If you look at Ronaldinho dancing over the ball against Chelsea you can say he is trying to work space for himself to get the shot off. There are a lot of flair players where trickery is part of their game and is done for effect. Antony's problem is he does all the theatrics and it serves no purpose.

When Messi steps over the ball he is going past players, when Antony steps over the ball he is going nowhere. He may as well do an Irish jig over the ball if he wants to perform for the crowd.

I mean you make it sound like he just gets the ball and spins all the time

Yeah, they annoyed me, I wanted Antony to keep fecking spinning just to annoy the cnuts.

His crossing was his best attribute at Ajax though.
? I’m a Dutch football fan. Never noticed any crossing skills on Anthony. He’s good at dribbling, and every once in a while he scores a goal. That’s about it…..

How many slightly missed through balls do we see a game? It wasn’t some routine 5 yard pass. People acting like he just booted the ball out of play.

Same people will complain about safe sideway passing.

Everything is so over the top - it was a bit silly and funny at the same time. But when pundits are having a go at him over something like that, clearly something is wrong in the world.

The pass was atrocious, but never fecking change Antony. Some weirdos whining here and there should be fully your motivation to continue with your Joga Bonito style.

He did the exact same move against Chelsea at 0-0.

Nobody cared then. The only reason this is being discussed is BT dinosaurs and Scholesy trying really hard to make it a big deal.

I wish he'd take on his full back more, he's got the technique and ability to do so.

But seemingly not the power. Tbh that was the one concern I had about him before he joined. A lot were questioning his speed, but I think he has enough. However, I don’t think he’s a powerful runner at all. Beating and holding off fullbacks is a lot about power too. Unless you play for City, whose players inexplicably just blow past opponents despite not having either great speed or power!

3 seconds that's how long the kid had fun against a side which was not serious about challenging us on the field. What's so fecking big deal in some people's mind I don't understand.

I like Antony the player, but man that trick is completely pointless. It genuinely irritates me.

Back in 2011 Mario Balotelli received universal criticism for attempting a showboat finish in a pre-season training match against LA Galaxy, where he turned around and tried to heel the ball into the net instead of finishing with a normal shot. He missed.

Antony doing his spinny thing isnt excactly a disrespectful finish, but considering how utterly pointless it is it serves no purpose other than to showboat and waste both teams time in a sitaution where you hold the lead. Fair enough its just a couple seconds, but its the principle. I have no problem with him using it as a tool to pivot away from a defender, but here he is just doing a circle with no one pressuring him.

And its a really, really simple trick that anyone can do so its not even impressive.

Im on Grumpy old man yells at cloud Team on this one.

The insanity of it all is obvious when you consider that a moment (that wasn't a goal, horrible tackle or something that otherwise influenced the result of the game) that lasted three seconds, which is one twentieth of a minute, which in turn is one ninetieth of a football game, making the spin around 1/1800th of the game, gets 50% of the post-match coverage on BT. I was just giggling at them, so for me the spin provided loads of entertainment

I had a good laugh with that spin and I like Antony even more for it. He was just taking the p*ss. Football has become too serious, no more fun in it.

Same commentators were saying they hoped Garnacho would take on a player and not just knock it backwards 5 yards and he should back himself going wide. It was pointless from Antony but bloody hell in 5 seconds he created more chat about him than Sancho has all season. Let him play and express himself however he likes this is entertainment

Good job Scholesy. Shutter the confidence of a young player for having fun and expressing himself. That will help the club

Football is meant to be fun. I thought it worked actually and the ball afterwards was the issue, if Casemiro gets to it and gets an effort off then there is no issue.

Keep spinning kid, I loved it. The overreaction from pundits is typical of them.

F*ck Antony and f*ck Joga Bonito, let's watch old DVDs of Paul Konchesky celebrating possession with his mum.
