as per, I’ve no idea what you’re on about, fella!
I believe most united fans are still behind him, it's the potential new owners you should convince. Especially if the Qataris pay upwards of 6bn for the club, I don't think they'll be very patient.

I’m not trying to convince anyone, I’m just giving my opinion, wtf are you on about

Well it's a forum, unless everyone has the same exact opinion, everyone is convincing someone who doesn't share the same opinion. Or you could just assume my post said I agree, which isn't too far off.

A season under Ole with a trophy and top four would have been celebrated on here, even after being in the job for almost four years. We are well on course for exactly that under Erik in his first season. We good.
Should Erik be held to the same standards as Ole though? Ole was an ex-player without much world class managerial experience, nor did he have players like Casemiro in midfield

2 full seasons and 300m spent for 66 and 74 points and an EL final.

Great return.

It needed him 2 full markets to break the 70 points line in the league.
Take Casemiro out of the team, do you think United would finish higher than 65 points this season?

The idea behind was McT is shit with his passing but he would score a bit so ETH wanted to try and see what McT could do in a more advanced position with more offensive responsability/freedom. And why high pressing/counter pressing doesn't mean to control the match? I mean literally every teams who want to control the game do that.

Both McT and WW don't have much pace. That's exactly why we didn't plan to play with a counter attack approach yesterday. To counter you simply need pace. The plan was to press high, control the match, push them back to their half, stress their defense wide then provide McT and WW from the midfield or out wide. In the first half you barely saw Rashford in their box when we had the ball.

In the second half ETH obviously released this couldn't work so he moved McT back and push Bruno forward. After their first goal things went tits up and I don't think we really had any defined structure or game plan onward. We simply were trying our best to pump more players toward their box in the hope of scoring. Imo it's a logical thinking since we're a goal down and there was not much time left anyway.
High pressing/counter pressing can be applied effectively with pace because when you win the ball in high line, you still need to launch quick counter and in fact it will be better to have someone who can press quickly. If we want to play more control then we should play with more technical player rather than 2 players with no technique up front. But if we want to play with a counter attack then we should play with more pace player not McTominay.

So my point is that whether it's high pressing, possession, and counter attack still needs one player with pace or technique not both the front players with no pace and no technique. Thus, I don't understand the idea of playing WW and McT up front if we want to play either counter attack or possession or high pressing. Neither offer something that compliment each other to play high press or counter or possession. Hence why I asked the question what was the idea of playing 2 players up front that have no pace and no technique.

You fear for him if we don't finish in the top 4 this season. You will not get a better opportunity than this ever. Just feck the EL off for crying out loud, it's killing us playing this many games a week.

The very first purpose of high pressing is to take possession back asap. In modern football that's how teams dominate possession, push their opponents back to their own half and thus control the match. What do you do after taking possession back is another story.

For example with tiki taka they'd focus more on keeping the ball and would be less likely to lauch immediate counters. While with gegen pressing they would be more likely to lauch immediate counters. High pressing doesn't neccessarily mean quick counter attacking.

Imo the idea with McT and WW is both have the physicality and stamina to press all day and to deal with their CBs and CMs. And ETH wanted to see what McT could do in a more offensive role. Of course this idea failed spectacularily yesterday but we could see the logic behind I think.

I rather ETH de-prioritise the FA cup and the EL.

The EL is the other option for getting into the CL whilst teh FA Cup is just another domestic tin pot.

That's just potentially two games left though, the EL has another possible 5, we can't do that with this squad.
Think you're being a bit daft there, sorry. The 3 games for CL is surely worth the risk. Casemiro will be fresh for that run in and is your best/most important player. Martial might stay fit. Erikssen could be back. I'd take the additional 3 games with those players in.

The Europa League matches against Sevilla is the Quarter final. We have to win both of those, win both the semi's, then win the final. We're at the point where all the best teams are left and we're playing shit. Just chuck the reserves in and focus on the league and the FA cup semi final. At least we can end the season on a high then.

And the bolded part is probably a fantasy at this point.

I'm inclined to sadly agree with this after yesterday. If the EL's ultimate reward is to get us CL then it's better to focus on that via the league.
Who knows, maybe one or two players will surprise us with their performances

What you said is incorrect because ''high pressing'' is a zonal defending mechanism in football that teams use to win possession of the ball near or inside the final/attacking third to score a goal on a fast attack.

https://footxfit.com/6-tips-for-effective-high-pressing-in-football/#:~:text=What Is High Pressing?,goal on a fast attack.

We can't score a goal on a fast attack with two slow player up front. In addition, we will also struggle to do high press if both of our presser is bloody slow to cover the ground to press the defenders and midfielders in the first place.

Literary, there is no benefit to play McT and WW if the idea is to play high press. Both consists the same weaknesses and neither their strength compliment each other to allow us to do high press.

Did the tiki taka Barca do high pressing? Did they always try to lauch immediate quick counters after taking the possesion back? That tiki taka football was considered so boring to watch by many for a reason. That tiki taka football was probably less 'quick counter football' even than Jose's dinosaur football I'd say. While Jose's football had no high pressing whatsoever. And it's not because someone said so on a random website it must be the absolute truth.

Anyway we should agree to disagree I think. This won't go nowhere.

Fair enough, but you don't have to win 'both' and the best teams left in are beatable. Sevilla are a bogey side in the competition, but they've been in the shit this season. Sporting might be the most dangerous side, but I think you'd have to back yourself against them if there's a CL place available. If Eriksson, Casemiro and maybe Martial are back, you're a massively better team than yesterday's shite one.

Its not this season to judge TH its what he does in the summer. Hopefully we have new owners in and after a season, TH should know who to move on and what positions to fill, with the type of footballer to play his brand of football. We are running on fumes, with the 2 best footballers out who can control a game. This season was always a getting to know you season and he has surpassed any manager since WW2, maybe longer jn winning a trophy in his first year.

We aren't playing well enough to beat Sporting and we don't need the extra games. The EL means more to them than it ever will to us, and we've got 8 games this month as it is. If we beat Sevilla that's 10 games this month we'll play, these are insane numbers. Meanwhile, we haven't won in the league in 3 games and we only beat Fulham because they got half their team sent off.

As a manager of Manchester United the league always comes first, if we were to go on and win the EL anyway, we'd gift another CL position to our league, meaning Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea, Brighton etc could get CL football, so that's someone else we have to compete with for signings in the summer who can offer CL.

Just get 4th nailed on and feck everything else off, we don't need it, we aren't there yet, we're going to end up with nothing and 5th.

I think we all agree,

Ten Hag is a good coach.

Being good enough in EPL is not good enough, ask Klopp.

You need to be top class, to compete with Pep. Pep is the benchmark.

EPL is a result based competition.

You can't auto pilot in EPL.

Without control in EPL you won't win the title as opponents run more and are more physical meaning you need to have more of the ball to create chances after chances.

Now to where United are,

1. Our defensive structure is Casemiro induced.
2. Our goal scoring threat is RASHFORD only.
3. We don't control games even with Casemiro and Eriksen in the team. Esp big games, we are still 30-40% possession team.
4. The structure of the team gets exposed extremely bad in big away games. This problem has been here for so long. As of today, now. Away to all top 10 teams WE HAVE WON A SINGLE GAME.
Fulham - Garnacho 93 minute winner.

the rest are losses.

Aston Villa 3-1 Loss
Liverpool 7-0 Loss
Brenford 4-0 Loss
Brighton - to play.
Spurs - to play.
Newcastle 2-0 Loss
City 6-3 Loss
Arsenal 3-2 Loss

If you add
Position 11.Chelsea last minute equalizer
Position 12. Palace last minute equalizer.

5. This is not good enough, not matter how much we try to pamper it.

6. We are just 3 points ahead of Ralf season, and Ralf was an Interim Manager. Interim Manager. Ralf had no Casemiro Eriksen Licha Or Antony. Leave alone signing 4 players of his own.

We have a goal difference of 4.
We have shipped 7 more goals than Chelsea, 3 more than Westham. Even Liverpool have shipped 4 goals less than us. Can't be westham has better defenders than us, it's just the team set-up

7. Not to ring alarm bells but Ten Hag has the change the set-up of the team, we are still the same same team as Ole sadly. 70-75 points team.

8. This season we can give him a pass, but next season if we don't control games better sadly he will sacked no matter how much we love him because this away games will be like this season thrashings+being overrun.

9. He needs to find a way of us controlling football matches either through coaching or through new players. It's simple. Either he achieves that or he will be out as sad as it may be.

Hopefully he has learnt alot since the season started, I trust him completely he will solve the biggest issue. The midfield control issue.

We wish him well but he must maintain the high standards he sets to everyone else to himself also.
Very good post

There's plenty of excuses one can use to dump the EL but this is a stupid excuse
Liverpool and Chelsea are not finishing in the top 4. Not even a New Manager Bounce will be enough for Chelsea to cover the massive ground they have
If we get the Qataris you'd back Utd to financially obliterate Spurs and Brighton for ANY and I mean ANY player.
The way I see it I'd like us to give a go against Sevilla first. If we lose fine full focus on the PL but if we make it to the Semis it's 3 games away from another trophy and a guaranteed CL Spot+Pot 1 in the draw. That's far more attractive than a top 4 finish which we used to make fun of Arsenal for

We don't have the squad to compete on all fronts. Pushing like this will cost us top 4 and we'll lose both cups in the semi's. Then all of a sudden we're sitting around and talking about a shit season and if the manager can survive after spending a silly amount of money in the summer and doing no better than the shite that have come before him.

Narrative will change massively depending on where we finish in the league this year and if we get CL football.

Eriksen and Casemiro will both be back soon it'll give us a massive energy and technical boost and thrust to push on that little extra. Much rather we give a proper go at the cups than the cowardly approach we used to make fun of Wenger for

Fair enough but come the summer when we have nothing to show for this season but a League cup serious questions are going to be asked, and with potentially new owners coming in Ten Hag could be on the chopping block while managers like Enrique are available.

I'd take a top 4 trophy now over the EL, which is essentially the only reason we're interested in winning it anyway.

We need to start prioritizing, CL qualification is a must. So play the reserves for the FA cup, we’re never beating City anyway. EL is another route for CL and we might fluke that.

Not just ETH but the whole club have gotten a bit stale and I wonder if waiting for the sale to go through/not go through could do with letting everyone know where they stand or could be faced with. Where I thought you could see the motivation of players being completely changed and more upbeat at the beginning of the season looks like everyone feels they're stuck in longer queues at the airport or just want things resolved as do the fans. What happened to all the positivity and momentum?

Play the reserves against a very good Brighton team and risk getting embarrassed again out of fear of playing big bad ol City? Really?

Ten Hag said they don't have time for ball work anymore due to the fixture congestion, so they're doing loads of video work and tactics board stuff, and being given a load of homework to take home with them. He said he was treating the matches as the 'exam' so this lot are failing big time. They need to get back on the training pitch ASAP and work on movement and linkup play again.

You really think we'll beat Brighton with a full strength side anyway? What is it about our recent form that's filling you with the confidence we'll win anything moving forward? Our xG against most games is 4-0 at the moment.

Agree.

I know some are in a panic mod right now but tbh I think we'd get the top 4 quite comfortably without having to sacrifice any of the cups. Looking at our next PL matches I don't think those would be as difficult as Liverpool and Newcastle away. Or the refs would try to feck us that much again like against Southampton.

Plus we've gone this far it'd be a waste and also a big hit to the moral and confidence of our players if we decide to do so. As a top team you must basically go to any match with the belief and desire to win the match.

We won't know if we'll have nothing to show for if we don't try and if in the next week we finally get clarity on the sale of the club it will likely give everyone an emotional lift on and off the pitch.
There's still too much to play for for us to completely give up on one thing to accomodate the other especially with two of our best CMs about to return, Martial returning(hopefully for longer this time because for al his flows he's miles better than Weghorst) and a full sale of the club looking likely
Plus Newcastle/Spurs will also drop points themselves anyway so this top 4 race will stretch

I don't think we beat them in the League but I do think we will at Wembley because all bets are off in such one off games and our players will rise to that occasion better due to experience of winning the Carabao Cup.
People here had similar fears facing Newcastle in the Cup Final but we ended up dispatching them professionally

I'm telling you right now, if we keep playing like this we will end up with nothing. That's not an opinion, that's an objective stat. We look and play like a club in crisis, we aren't creating chances and we're not taking the ones we do, while being leaky at the back, in fact, it's performances and results that get managers sacked. Things need to improve massively. I feel as though your stance is what people say when they're sleepwalking into a situation without realising how they got there. You're asking for a lot of things to go right for us to be okay when nothing is going right at the moment.

Well we have to play them in the league yet so that will be a nice three points for them, bearing in mind we're only 7 points ahead of them currently and they have a game in hand.

But at least we might beat them in a semi final eh?

You're basically declaring like some sort of football demi God that we're destined to keep losing games between now and end of the season which is virtually impossible. The team's performances will improve over the next few weeks especially with players coming back. We may lose or draw a few more games but another Rangnick meltdown is not happening under Ten Hag because he's too talented a manager to let it happen and that's also not an opinion but a statistical fact with the results he's gotten for MAJORITY of the season instead of this small barren spell. It goes both ways

We look and play like a club in crisis,
This is a bit exaggerated imo. In our last matches we played like this against Liverpool in the second half. And against Newcastle yesterday when we missed Casemiro and ETH tried to experiment new stuffs. The rest imo we've been playing pretty well even with 10 men for 70' against Southampton.

Only if the next match we continue to play like this against Brendford then I'd start to worry.
