Rashford is getting off relatively easy here. I'm honestly surprised many didn't pick up on what a horrible attitude Rashford was playing with like he didn't want to be there. I honestly think that's what led to the move he made as you never see Rashford try to shield the ball in that manner. Rashford plays like he's doing us a favor by being there.
I don't think this is true if you check his performance thread even when he was not playing like his absence for a Fulham game.

It's just that ETH decision not to go full Rangnick on Rashford, belongs to ETH thread. ETH clearly built our playing system this season by his own word about making us the best transitional team in the world, on hope that Rashford would continue his good form from last season. Likely he would fight and die on this hill.

Barring Hojlund he has the worst eye for talent I’ve ever seen, just awful.
It's not like we weren't warned by all the Ajax fans. If total control over transfers was the deal-breaker between him becoming the United coach or not, then we should've looked elsewhere.

Completely forgot this game happened until this morning, not surprised by the result.

So many questions need to be asked of Ten Hag but officiating has quite literally been the worst I've seen against us this season. Erik really needs to be screaming at this like Arteta did, because game after game it's never talked about. Oh wow we got lucky in our first game, doesn't mean we should have months of decisions going wrongly against us.

What people forget is that this is just a forum. Internet platform where you can express your views.

In terms of what the club will do, everything written here means absolutely nothing.
You can create thousand posts how ETH needs to be sacked, or given a chance, it changes absolutely nothing.

So calm down, no need to get at each others throats.

We really need two convincing wins against Luton and Everton.
A good performance against Liverpool will change our season aswell.
I think we can pull these off. Let's see.

From what I recall the Ten Hag signing was seen as United finally making a "modern" managerial signing, which lots of people really wanted. I can understand holding onto him because if this fails, there is no obvious solution.
After Jose and Ole; Dyche would have been more modern tbf.

Hiring a manager isn't an exact science. Your club runs through them like condoms in a brothel.

I'd say LVG, Mourinho and ETH were worthy punts that should've been sacked off earlier when it was clear they weren't it. Ole and Moyes were just a collosal waste of time right from the start.

If majority of fanbase saying the same thing, it would influence the decision makers at the club. Especially nowadays where the Glazers listed in the club as business on NY stock market. Negative public opinion would not easily escape consequences. See how Antony had to be left out the squad due to the domestic violence accusation, despite no official legal proceedings conducted.

Antony situation is not football related.

Also, it's hard to keep up with the majority of the fanbase, because they change their comments from game to game. After we lost it's largely "sack eth", if we beat Luton 4-0, it will be largely "support eth".

We are just observers, we don't know what's really happening behind the scenes.
There is a large corruption and match fixing even at the highest levels. Who knows what's going on, who's doing what and what arrangements are being made?

I expect everything at this point.

You have the Greenwood example. They were bringing him back but then they didn't.

Although I wanted Qatar, lets hope Ratcliffe can sort out this mess of failing managers once and for all, even if he keeps TH. The media are all saying the same thing about Ratcliffe bringing in a sporting system with football people in key roles, rather than Woodwards mates.

Doesn't change that public opinion influenced the decision at the club.

For this club, a 4-0 victory over Luton Town wouldn't sway the public opinion to largely support ETH where the odd is stacked against us getting out of CL group stage. It takes a lot more to change that ( mathematically possible for us to get into top 4 with a win if everyone above us drop points this round). In another word, the even if the expectation is low on challenging for PL, being mid table, eliminated from League Cup and on the verge of dropping out of CL is still negative received.

If your conspiracy theory about match fixing, corruption get as much attention as you think, then there would be investigation, public statement to answer to the public. And sorry. I am not buying your conspiracies theory that we're under Communist like rehime where public opinion has no influence.

I'm still waiting for an explanation as to why he needs an entirely fit squad in order to get some semblance of performances and results.

Other teams and managers suffer injuries, they don't go on disastrously bad record breaking runs during them like he has.

If we dont sack this well out of his depth manager we probably wont win against Luton or Everton and will get an absolute hiding off Liverpool that will be worse than the one at Anfield last season.

The way people fight to defend this guy - you’d think he won us the league and/or the CL or at the very least had us playing swashbuckling champagne football.
Not really. Most people are just fighting someone else on the internet. Both the "sack him now" crowd and "don't sack him now" ones.

Klopp’s Liverpool were plagued with injuries a couple seasons ago and started the season terribly, they ended up scraping top 4 in the end because key players returned to fitness and they then went on a winning run. There’s a difference between having a few injuries here and there and having your entire first choice back line unavailable for months, not to mention all the other noise surrounding the club right now. I’m not saying the manager is blameless but you can’t say being decimated with injuries isn’t a factor for our poor performances.

Every time a corruption scandal appears, it gets swept under the rug very quickly.
There are trillions of money beong moved around with football, public opinion doesn't bother people on top.

And I'm not talking about communism. You have every right to express your opinion.
I'm saying that it doesn't matter as much as you think it does.
There are many other factors that influence big decisions.

I think that with club sale or takeover hanging in the air and constant uncertainty of the future, ETH needs to do something drastically bad, like losing 5-6 games in a row to get sacked.

And I think the uncertainty also affects performances.

But hey, I could be wrong.
Maybe Glazers are in talks with De Zebri right now.

Erik Ten Hag is a dead man walking at United. The moment he decided he will abandon his philosophy and principles in pursuit of results his faith was sealed. As his supporter of what he did at Ajax i am terribly disappointed but the truth is he needs to be sacked ASAP.

Ten Hag will be successful wherever he goes after United.

Just let him go and let's get De Zebri, can't wait to read hundres of pages calling him "fraud" in 1 year.
He's not really got the credentials where he can get away with these kind of results or you can say that with any confidence. We got rid of Jose after a downturn and all of his trophies and past success couldn't save him or inspire the confidence he could turn it around. The Dutch league and a CL Semi (and losing to Tottenham) ain't saving ETH and based on how stubborn he seems here he'll never be a great manager.

Do you not constantly defend shite players that have had way more time to show something than Ten Hag has?
I don’t have nor owe allegiance to anyone besides or beyond Manchester United as a club. If I “defend” an individual at any given time - it’s most likely - contextually - for a reason and specific to the instance in which I felt an argument could/should be made for them. That doesn’t mean I’ll go blindly defend them at every turn or absolve of culpability eternally. That’s besides the point though, this is the Ten Hag thread - let’s not muddy the waters. It’s 9/11/23 and United has held 9 losses - including two back to back 0-3 defeats at OT, and is currently last in a CL group that includes Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

From what I recall the Ten Hag signing was seen as United finally making a "modern" managerial signing, which lots of people really wanted. I can understand holding onto him because if this fails, there is no obvious solution.
Yes, he’s the first appointment of a “modern” or manager in an upward trajectory that we’ve made since Ferguson retired. I don’t understand the reasoning behind “holding onto him” - just because he’s failed it doesn’t mean it is an indictment on modern or managers in an upward trajectory. You just appoint another modern manager/in an upward trajectory. Just because that’s the profile we need, it doesn’t mean Ten Hag is the guy.

The people urgently wanting him sacked forget that we have gone over a decade without a league title or CL regardless of who's been at the helm. Two managers that are serial winners failing miserably. So maybe, just maybe we should build a functioning structure in which ETH can succeed before binning another manager.
I think being aware of the fact that United has gone over a decade without league title or CL is the more reason to throw him in the bushes considering what he has provided in terms of results/performances x how long he’s been here x how much has been spent under him.Ten Hag’s CV isn’t even of the caliber of say a Klopp when he touched down in Liverpool. Guy has some eredivisie titles and a couple/handful of good performances in Europe. What are we saying - another £400m and 3 more seasons to see something?

What serial winners? Mourinho was damaged goods and completely washed up by the time we hired him - having been sacked from his previous two jobs - including having a title winning team languishing at 16th. Who’s the other? Van Gaal? Do you know how long he had been away from club football by the time we hired him? Come on man - us appointing has-beens was partially why people were excited about this guy - unfortunately though, he’s a dud.

I’ll be flabbergasted if he’s still here by the end of November. The Luton and Everton games have got ‘sack’ written all over them. The question is though, will they sack before INEOS arrive or will they just hang on and send everyone packing at the same time when they arrive?

Why does everyone think we’ll just suddenly sack him. He won’t be sacked unless we finish very low in the table. If we come 3rd in the CL group stage then he’s basically got this full season as the board know if we win the Europa we’re in the CL anyway. Failure to qualify for next seasons CL could see him gone in the summer. Also the managers we’ll probably be targeting will be at current clubs and it’s much easier to approach them in the summer rather than mid season.
We will absolutely not win the EL.
For some reason, EL is seen as an easy peasy win.
Ole and ETH both tried to win the EL and failed.
The moment we come up against a decent team, we'll be knocked out.

He bought most of them
He defo bought some but it's not that simple.
Some of his buys are good including Hojlund, Martinez, Malacia and Onana (rocky start but i'm getting convinced now)
Bad = Mount, Antony (unfortunately they were also big purchases)
Casameiro and Varane were world class in their prime. Now they are fading fast apparently but they were great last year. Hard to really put that on ETH.
Evans and Amrabat were panic loans, no biggie.

It's starting to seem more and more like he might have pulled the wool over my eyes.

I don't think any manager would fix the mess that the club is in, and I don't know if it'll improve anytime soon with changes to the ownership, but what I do know is that some of his decisions, a lot of them in fact, are absolutely terrible.

The clueless way we fall apart with seemingly no ideas or tactics, the horrific decisions when it comes to substitutions...I mean really, Hojlund who's looking like our only real scoring threat and is on a hat-trick, for Mount who has done considerably less than nothing at all since arriving?? I can't defend this. I really can't.

Kind of like we did last year against Barcelona, right?
Huh? When did this imaginary improvement last few games happened? We barely managed a very late win against Fulham after they wasted good amount of chances to lead against us earlier.

Ten Hag's biggest achievement at United isn't winning the glorious league cup, it's selling his night fever dream to his supporters.
Do one will you. You wanted Conte who completely imploded at Spurs and have been bitter about ETH getting the job ever since.

I still remember your nonsensical ramblings on how you don't care about the future, style of play, and wanted Conte to be appointed ASAP post OGS because it guaranteed trophies. And you have the gull to lecture people who support the manager that.

Did you even watch the game last night? Did you take into account that we were completely dominating them until the red card?

Hojlund was completely gassed. He wasn't pressing and was letting their CBs push into our side. ETH had to take him off in favor of someone who has the legs to run and press, so definitely not Martial. Not much he can do either when the first choice CBs are out, and the back ups are complete clowns who always let us down.

Shaw and Martinez have missed the majority of the season so far and Licha won’t return until after Christmas. Varane’s been in and out the team constantly with injuries, our back up LB hasn’t kicked a ball yet this season and our first choice RB has missed a decent chunk of games and has only just returned. Now maybe a slight exaggeration that all four of our starting back line have all been out for months at the same time but at least 2-3 have been missing for a good while and their back ups are players who people have deemed not good enough a long time ago. That’s a pretty valid reason for our shite performances, not the sole reason but a major contributing factor I’d say. As I said even Klopp struggled and he had a side who’d recently won a CL and PL.

That's not a response. I understand, though, that Ten Hag's **** have run out of ideas to defend this crap served weekly so the only thing they can do now is attacking the others personally. Beginning of the end for this ****.

Shaw is the only one who's really been gone for months (since August). Martinez has been missing for less than two months, and the record with him on the pitch was terrible (2W4L). Varane has only missed 3 league games to injury. Wan-Bissaka missed a little over a month, and of all the players in the back four, he's the least obvious "first choice." The overwhelming consensus here around January was that Dalot was the better player.

"less than two months".

We've only just started the fourth month of the season.

Honestly it’s difficult to take anyone seriously who thinks the answer when down to ten men away in a must win CL match is to throw in two barely experienced, patchy youngsters.

Not surprising, it happens all the time on this forum it’s just a bit weird and draining.
You could see how tired we were. They would have given us some energy at least in the last 10min.

You can dress it up all you like we’ve been decimated with injuries so far and we’re only in November. Also it’s been clear since the second half of last season that AWB should be the first choice RB.

It’s been complete failure across the board this season. From tactical setup, to recruitment, to results, to in game management, to player fitness. It’s been a disaster across the board.

A manager with that many mistakes over such a short period of time can’t be trusted with the future of the team. There just isn’t enough there to back him.

The season is in tatters and it’s mostly down to his coaching methods and how has has managed the players.

Also, as has been repeated countless times, most people’s issues isn’t with how we defend but how we are so fecking terrible to watch in possession. Many here would understand Ten Hags plight if we were still playing good stuff going forward but leaking goals at the back as a result of injured defenders, but we are 18 months in and actually terrible to watch with 0 progress of any systemic style of play or pattern going forward.

Agree.

I do think a lot needs to change at the club, but ETH has failed to get it right with almost everything this season. The assumption that time will make things better is naive.
