At least Real Madrid have made some efforts to sign him. If they can afford to blow around £20m on him then I hope the deal goes through. They need to accept that Ronaldo is not going anywhere and leave us alone.

Our money would be best served buying Carlos Tevez out of his current predicament. We already have a full compliment of wide players with Tosic getting more opportunities from next season. Ljajic will also join the squad in the near future to give us more options.

Antonio Valencia's agent has confirmed Real Madrid have made a bid for the Wigan winger.

Wigan are resigned to losing the Ecuador international and Real Madrid and Manchester United are believed to be battling it out for his services.

Latics boss Steve Bruce has openly admitted the 23-year-old will move on in the summer as Wigan prepare to sell him to the highest bidder.

Real have held a long-term interest in Valencia and tried to sign him during the January transfer window, and they have now made the first moves to lure him to the Spanish capital this summer by tabling an offer.

United are also believed to have contacted Wigan to register their interest in the skilful wide-man with Sir Alex Ferguson a big admirer of the South American.

The player's agent Diego Herrera has admitted Real have bid for Valencia and that Wigan are awaiting other offers before allowing the player to leave.

"I believe Wigan will sell Antonio for the right offer and they will decide that once they receive that," Herrera told skysports.com.

"Real Madrid made an offer last week, but nobody from Wigan has told me of an offer from Manchester United.

"There are a number of interested clubs and I will speak with Wigan about it this week.

"Once the season is over I expect offers to be made and I will sit down with Antonio and decide what offer is in his best interests."

You managed to confuse Gill with the Wigan chairman. Well done.
Both must have shouted for the press to get wind of it. A quiet word in his ear wouldnt have been heard, plain and simple. And Gill doesnt come across as a man who is going to let this slip, during a heated discussion in the middle of a football match. Again, if you dont get it you dont get it.

Berbatov is not worth 30m but that seems to be the crazy prices being thrown around in the PL.
We spent crazy money on Berbatov. That doesn't mean that we should do the same with Valencia. At 20 - 25m you can tempt a winger like Ribery and not Valencia.

He is worth around £15m.

Berbatov was overpriced, but that's because Spurs really did not want to sell, as they also had no time to replace him. IIRC I believe we wanted to deal at around £26m.

Ribery is a no go and will cost more than 25m.I feel we are definitely in for a left sided winger whether Valencia or some other not well known player.

That's besides the point as the article is likely bollocks anyway. The point is you confused the two, and then snapped at anyone who pointed it out. Jog on.

He may cost around 30, which may not still (compared to Valencia) be a bargain. I mean comparing Valencia (22m) with Ribery is like comparing Rio with Dunne.

It wasn't a 'heated discussion', it was more likely to be two guys ribbing each other.

Campbell has been wanted by Wigan for long.. They almost got him last summer before he was told by SAF that he had to go to Tottenham instead.. The news coming out today is that Wigan want to do a quick deal to ensure they have enough time to find a replacement and re-build their squad with the money they get.. If SAF decides to let Campbell go to Wigan I just hope it is not to get Valencia instead..

Sky Sports News reporting that both United and Real Madrid have bid in excess of £16m for Valencia. They are spinning it as though the player will decide where to go...

Just beat me to it.

He'll choose Madrid though won't he?

Just saw it there...

I'd like to think we'll get him. This could be tough to take for Nani.

nope. I don't think he would. He played in spain, didn't settle and I think if were interested he'd go to United

Having said that, why we'd go for him is a mystery as he is no better then nani and tosic for me, is potentially a better prospect

Yep, just saw it on SSN too. I'd like to think he'll choose us, we've more to offer than Real Madrid. It's up to the lad now what decision he makes.

Valencia on the right, then either Nani or Tosic on the left.

A substandard bag of meat and bones.
Am I the only person who has seen nothing from Valencia to suggest he's improve us in any way?
He's a different type of winger to what we have as his main asset is getting to the byeline and getting crosses in. He's probably quicker than our current wingers, and a little more direct.

It's a lot of money though. I wonder if there are any players involved in our bid or straight cash?

Surely Madrid is more attractive for an Ecuadorian?

I like him because he's strong and has got a good engine on him.

I don't know if you're the only one, but I reckon he's a cracking old-fashioned winger who'll be a marked improvement on this season's Nani. Might get him to buck up his ideas with that sort of competition too.

I really rate the lad. His decision making is excellent, he has a great cross, pace and he's also young.

Nani looks to be too stupid for top class football.

We've Ronaldo, Park, Nani, Tosis, ljajic in jan (you never know) and valencia?

The only way is if we put Ronaldo up top...which would be disappointing for me. He scored 42 in a free floating role

I don't think we need him and I don't think he's as good as many people would hope.

If we sign him, I hope he proves me wrong and I come around to your way of thinking, but I just can't see it.

I'd definitely take him. He's got a very good delivery on him, takes on his man and works hard for the team.

Park always gets the wide slot in the tough games because of his work rate, and as much as I like Park, Valencia may be the choice to maintain this style whilst bringing more quality.

your basing your decision on a kid playing for wigan and ecuador. Expectation week in week out don't exist.....

I think people writing nani off are nuts to be honest. He ticks most of the boxes

Seems strange that Madrid would be interested given their Galatico policy though. MARCA is all about Ribery etc. http://www.marca.com/

Any chance that United are the only bidders but Wigan are spinning that Madrid have alos bid in the hopes of upping the price?
