Love Martinez but he can’t be relied upon. He must have missed more games for us than he’s played.

Something is seriously wrong in the way we prepared for the season and/or the way we train.

Yeah. Looking at it now it’s basically three years in a row where he’s had big injuries during the season. I don’t think your body recovers from that and you suddenly start getting through a whole season again. Think we’ll need to start looking at a new centre back.

Seems like muscle injuries usually happen when a player has been out for a while with one injury and come back, maybe not 100% ready and are compensating for something and it causes something else to feck up.

I'd wouldn't be rushing him for this season, let him target a full return for pre season.

If its true and he's injured again ETH got exactly what he deserved for bringing him on in a game where our CBs were being worked so hard they both came off injured. This was exactly what I was expecting to hear after the match when he did that and why I was less concerned with him defending poorly for the goal. An injury is far worse.

Shame for Lisandro although I'm sure he had to declare himself fit

Martinez will be remembered like Gaby Heinze. An amazing first season, massive fan favourite, injured for the second year, then cant get into the team and disappears (apart from the fecking us over apart obviously.) It doesnt matter how good you are, you cant wait forever if someone is constantly injured. And he's Ten Hag's boy, so if he gets the sack patience may not be the same with a new manager.

It isn’t just the training intensity I suspect it’s the entire medical team that are clueless on how to build a player’s fitness and that physical resilience and recovery. This isn’t the first time they have failed a player

Was happy he didn’t start, wanted to ease him in with a few minutes only. Why not bring on Varane
The Brentford match? There is a rule against bringing on a player that has already been subbed off. Also bringing a player on that went off injured earlier in that same match is a double no-no.

I never was a fan of his type of defenders (pit bull approach, last ditch tackles and passion). Ok, Vidic is exception but he was world class player.
Lisandro is a good defender (and his ball playing ability gives huge advantage to his team) but he is not THAT good as our fans think about him. He is upgraded version of Rojo.

Give me Rio or Nesta type of defenders any day of the week. Defenders who barely do tackle whole game but do their job with excellent anticipation and positioning.
Everyone has their preferences. For me, without Vidic, Rio was often found lacking in his aggression and pure defensive domination. So you need a bit of both in your defence otherwise it won’t work. Martinez is a superb player - he’s a good defender who is brilliant on the ball. If he regains full fitness I’m more than happy to have him among our main three CBs.

Sometimes I watch training videos of football teams and even if it's a snippet of their whole program, they often leave me flabbergasted.

Rushed him back, now we lose him again, for this so-called professionals not to understand that humans aren't robots is beyond me.

Yep.
We are not 'cursed'. We've got shoddy people working in the backroom staff.

You have to question his fitness record at this point. Multiple long term injuries are mounting up.

Heard this on TalkShite this morning and I thought it must be more hyperbole, but no, he's actually crocked again!
I love Martinez and I know it's not deliberate, but we can't rely on him and the first two signings in the coming window have to be at centre back, even if Maguire and the rest won't vacate their spots.

ETH best signing and , arguably, most important player for his system and we rarely see him on the pitch.

Yeah, CB is probably our main issue.
We don`t have one single player that is a reliable starter for next season.
Varane and Martinez have high ceilings but cant stay fit to save their lives.
Lindelöf and Maguire was barely injured at all for the first couple of seasons but is slowly turning into Phil Joneses now.
Evans is done at this level and big willy needs a good loan.
Was hoping Licha could come back now and give us a vital boost but nah.

Seems like the Varane and Martinez partnership has ended before it's even had a chance to really flourish. Everything about this season has been tragic.

So he is now injury prone and bein compared to Phil Jones when all of his injuries are opponent caused and basically unlucky? So if you are not injury prone, you just take someone literally falling on your knee and don't get injured, is that the logic? Do people not look at context and just spout bollocks?

Also blaming the Brentford game when he got injured in training? :houllier:

This thread is peak Caf.

Luke Shaw has always been a crock. He is still around because the club likes to throw away money.

Someone posted a few weeks ago the amount of games Shaw has missed solve he joined, and it’s crazy high. Morphine jones level, but still. It’s a massive shame for him and Utd
