Álvaro Morata | Performances

Well, first of all who cares if every attack goes through Hazard or not? He is part of the team, you know?

And secondly, I'm not a fan of bringing up stats, but if you just look at the goal difference and position it would really surprise me that United have been better in attack.

We haven’t. We’ve been pretty shit at attacking tbh. Easily worse than Chelsea (and every other top team)

Chelsea have been hit and miss going forward and seem to rely on spells / moments
. They keep the ball well in midfield and play through Hazard but are otherwise inconsistent across the line.
Unless the criticisms of Morata and laughter at Willian have been a figment of my imagination!
Seriously, go through their match day threads on here. Wheres this attack? Theres nothing coming through the middle.
Why are they impressive? Theres nothing being presented other than vague overviews for a reason.
I’m not saying we have been amazing at attack, some games at certain points we’ve looked clueless. But to say united has had a better attack than us is ludicrous. At this point just stop trying to justify yourself, nothing can help.

We've had many spells this season when we come out asking why can't we play like that every week / full 90 minutes? though.
Chelsea aren't like that. Maybe it's why we leave our defence exposed but their opposition tend to be comfortable, a bit of Hazard genius then a goal to kill the game after a period of sustained possession.
Our chaotic nature lends itself to high drama, we have 45 mins to sort out this mess mentality that forces us to pen back the opposition.
Just keep an eye out for Chelsea games, you'll see. Palace game is the norm as far as I can see.

Utter nonsense. You're just digging yourself a deeper hole at this point; nothing you are saying has any basis in reality, statistical or otherwise. You're suggesting that a match where Chelsea scored 3 goals against a side that still have conceded fewer than United is a poor attacking performance? United have scored at least 3 goals twice this season (vs. Young Boys & Newcastle); Chelsea have done that 8 times thus far.

Trying to argue that United having 20 minutes of positive attacking out of desperation makes you a better side from an attacking perspective than Chelsea, who have scored ~40% more goals, is just delusional.

The whole world knew he was going to run straight in to Sakho on that counter attack didn't they? Must be depressing for Hazard playing with some of the shite in their attack, though get the feeling he likes being the big fish.

He's the only fish. Morata is plankton in comparison. He makes Lukaku look like prime Eto'o.

He needs to leave asap to rejuvenate his career. He is not that bad but it has been clear since summer of 2017 he never wanted to be at Chelsea. He will do well in Italy, atleast not this bad.

Low on confidence like Lukaku.

Also, Chelsea will never get the best out of target men up top, as they're constantly going through the middle. If they're going to play like that, then they need to either move Hazard up top and get a winger, or get a player like Firmino up top.

Can't believe I've actually just read that United have been better attacking than Chelsea this season. A team with a goal difference of 1 vs a team who have scored more goals than sides that go all out attack like Liverpool and Arsenal.

United need to repeatedly get punched in the mouth before you react in desperation and throw the kitchen sink at the opponent in second halves.

We've been the next best attacking side after City, imo. We've been carving through teams with ease.
Not to be a dick but here you go.
Hazard or bust.
Its just a lot more obvious now when the new manager syndrome is reversed.

People seriously believe he was a better bet than Lukaku??! Beggars belief, absolute embarrassment. A passenger in most games.

He’s coming completely shot of any confidence he had, he is a good striker but simply doesn’t suit either Chelsea or the English game.

Not sure why this thread has been bumped considering he scored a perfectly good goal today which was ruled offside.

On the other hand, he is a crybaby wimp who needs to get the feck out of my club. The last thing we need is an emotionally fragile, moist centre forward. We need bottle and character. We need Icardi.

Agreed. Needs to leave Chelsea ASAP before it ruins his career. It’s just not working out for him there.

Talented player but the move hasn’t worked at all.

He's now 26 and has failed at Real, Juventus and Chelsea. Maybe im harsh but he failed to secure his future at his previous two clubs, he was unwanted, and it seems to be happening at Chelsea.

Completley agree. If he goes to a decent Italian or Spanish club the old Morata will be back. Hopefully the club find a solution.

It was offside but one of those offsides that shouldn’t be called as offside. If you know what I mean.

It's a disgrace how uninterested he is in having any sort of physical battle. Any slight touch, he goes down, complaining to the ref.

We hardly see any of this "old Morata" over the past few years. This is probably his level.

I thought you didn't enjoy people saying "i told you so"?

This is the old Morata.

At the start of this thread I was able to predict the issues he's gone on to struggle with, not because I'm a fortune teller but because he struggled with exactly the same issues throughout entire career. He's played just over 3,000 minutes in the league at Chelsea and scored 16 goals - a goal every 188 minutes. He played just under 2,800 league minutes at Juventus and scored 15 goals - a goal every 184 minutes.

This is who he is. He isn't a ruthless goalscorer, he's mentally fragile and those two things combined make it very difficult for him to be a first choice striker for any big club. You need very favourable conditions like he had at Real Madrid for him to a remotely reliable goalscorer.

I did this through gritted teeth.
Its not even an I told you so since this period shouldn't really change how you should perceive that period to be.

He played 2k minutes+ in his two seasons at Juventus, 2 league titles, 2 Coppa Italias, started the 14/15 CL final and played 85 minutes and scored in it, also in the CL team of the season that year. Always contributed well at both Juventus and Real Madrid. Granted he's never been a 20-30 goal a season striker. We've tried to give him a different role and it hasn't worked.

He can play a very valuable part of a team though if he's used to his strengths and right mentally. Even during his time in England he's still managed to win more domestic trophies than Kane and Lukaku put together .

Is that the logic you used to purchase Drinkwater?

Cheap, English (home grown), Resale value. Why do Utd want him back ? Academy player with a bit of recent title winning experience in the team:lol:? He might actually get in our squad next few games given how many injuries we now have.

Cheap? £35m is about £20m too much and I never heard we want him back.

Just joking. He's home grown and that is the premium. Obviously doesn't fit a 3 man midfield. We should be able to get money back from him, even if we have to loan him somewhere first. He could excel again at the right premier league club.

Back on Morata, I hope we sell / swap him. Not going to work out. I'm sure he'll do well again though if he finds the right club.

Well, Chelsea can get their money back on everything with their shady business  £50m from Huddersfield incoming.

I've never seen United linked with Drinkwater. Plus we don't need to fill our homegrown quota anyways as we have lots in the current squad that qualify.

He was never good enough to lead the line for a top club. People just overrated him to heaven because he scored a couple of goals in the late stages of the CL with Juve.

Poor finisher and a weak mentality. Those are not characteristics you look for in your main striker.

I think he never wanted this Chelsea move from the start. He was just depserate to leave to anyone after United deal failed. He looks uninterested and not wanting to be there anymore. Not sure if he's good or not, but for the sake of his career and even Chelsea, they need to part company asap.
