That’s one impressive all touches compilation. I think he will get good amount of sub appearances this season, hopefully Ole has the guts to regularly start him and Greenwood ahead of Lingard and Mata. And yes, we should still sign Bruno if we think he’s good enough.

Some of us crying out that they want us to be challenging for everything and be the best team in the world with a top player in every position, yet not wanting to sign Bruno because we need to play our kids.
Yeah I don't get this at all, so in order to play a good youngster we should never sign any good player in his position at all ? We'll stay at 5th or 6th with such mentality in building up a squad.

Gomes is a few cm shorter than the best player to ever play the game. Height isn't a be-all factor here. He is however a bit skinny, but then again he's still a teenager. He'll flesh out a bit soon enough. He's technically gifted, but will obviously struggle in his physical game in the Premier League since he simply lacks the mass to shoulder someone away.

Angel was quality today, his link up play with Chong was excellent and you could see the cohesion between them. I like the way he always drives the ball forward towards the opposition goal. He always wants the ball and is clever with his touches. He likes to give and go, and that is why he clicked with Chong today, because they have played together. I would say the only element he might need to work on is his shooting. I think he could quite easily walk the ball into the net, but sometimes you need to take a dig. There is a place for him in our squad. Above Mata and Lingard IMO.

He surprised me with his ability to withstand physical pressure today. I hope it wasn't a one-off against a tiring Leeds side. I'd like to see him start a couple of matches this preseason to tell whether he can cut it against fitter players.

Excellent technically, and some great passing too.

His technique and control is better than a lot of the first team tbh. Would be interesting to see him get more chances in the PL.

Even with Bruno, Gomes can play as a 10, 8, or even a 6 (provided he has a dm next to him). He's just a smart player with amazing technique.

Can he play in a midfield of 3 with Pogba and McTominay?

Yes, but McTominay will be the DM and I still think we need a specialist for that role as McTominay's defensive ability isn't all too great. Think Ndidi would be great, but we're not after him.

I’ve long had this feeling for some reason that despite his youth football history, I reckon he will end up playing international football for Portugal. Think they will really go after him.

Doubt it. Think they were already after him, but he wants to play for England. He's Salford through and through.

Is he really 168cm? He looks shorter than that.

He certainly needs more muscle to cope with PL physciality.

No way he’s that tall. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly, but from a quick google search I’ve seen 160 cm, 161cm and 168cm. He’s probably still growing, but I’m guessing he’s around 160cm.

He has been great in the two pre-season games so far and I really hope he gets a lot of games in the upcoming season, he seems ready to make the step up.

We need proper ballers to get anywhere and you can tell angel is one. So natural for him always lets ball run across his body and controls it with either foot. Short height is actually an advantage in midfield.

Gomes looked absolutely mint. Never gave the ball away, was dangerous throughout, and surprisingly tenacious. Can't wait to see how he does against Premier League opposition.

Yeah look at how hard it is to get the ball off Bernardo Silva, and he's hardly much bigger than Angel. If you can put your body between you and the man trying to get it, it doesn't really matter how big you are. If anything, it makes it harder for bigger players because they have to be so careful not to foul a smaller player. He's clearly showed that he knows how to use his body which is more important than his actual size. Physically, he's more ready for senior football than Chong for example who still gets pushed off the ball a bit too easy.

It's obvious how talented he is. If he stays true and does the work and doesn't lose the will to succeed it doesn't matter if he's 4 feet 5. He and Greenwood look like future stars.

You never know but he's said himself that his career aim is to play for England seniors and United seniors. He came through with a special England generation with Sancho, Foden, Hudson Odoi, Smith Rowe etc and he's good mates with loads in the setup. I guess if England ignored him for a while and Portugal came after him it might open a door but my guess is that he'd want to try and win trophies for England with his mates that did it at youth level.

He's also a proper Manc

Brilliant yesterday, don’t we need to get him on a longer contract? Him and Greenwood have really upped the excitement for me next season and I really hope they get plenty of game time.

That’s some pretty good talent there for England. Future looks bright.
Whatever happened to Smith Rowe? Remember he had a great pre-season last summer and thought he would get his chance in the Arsenal lineup during the season. Then when he didn’t, I forgot that he even existed until you mentioned him.

I do hope Ole has Gomes in his plans for the future as he looks really talented and very comfortable on the ball. If he shows to have the same work rate as Bernardo Silva, then he really could be a great player for us. I’ve also not totally ruled out a move for Sancho next summer. The thought of having Rashford, Greenwood, Gomes and Sancho in the attacking lineup would be really interesting.

Angel has come on a pile in 2019. Playing with so much confidence and authority these days.if he keeps playing like he is Ole will have no choice but to keep picking him.

The moment where he pirouettes on the ball, and flattens a Leeds player in the process, made me burst out laughing. He is definitely strong for his size, I would say he is stronger on the ball than Ozil, for example.

That was the biggest thing for me. We all know he's a baller, but his aggression and his desire to close down really impressed me.

IMO he's more than ready to start if he can keep that up over 90 minutes. Especially in matches like against Perth he's perfect for that tight game.

Smith Rowe did well for Arsenal in Europa last season and went to Leipzig on loan in January but he was pretty much injured throughout his time there and only got a few appearances.

How can we give a contract to Andreas when this kid looks like he has so much more potential boggles my mind.
What's wrong with Andreas?
Gomes is bound to be a great player I'm sure. All this talented young players we have, and we're still looking for players to buy?
We actually should look around for more young talens

Would much rather give Gomes more game time and let him develop rather than spunk 70-80m on someone. His natural ability is there for all to see.

He's been the best player on the tour so far.

There is nothing surprising about his aggression to anyone who has watched him play regularly.
Yeah that's not too surprising, he's snappy in the tackle and strong on the ball. But I did have reservations about how that would transfer to the senior team. If those 90 minutes are anything to go by my fears have been alleviated.

Best case scenario is heavily using Gomes and Greenwood in the league and still making the top 4. That would make fans really happy.

But if the price of developing academy players is another season in the EL, it is not really worth it. Ole has to find the right balance between introducing youngsters and being good enough for a CL spot in the PL.

He was very impressive yesterday. Watching him and Mata play a half each in the same position against the same opposition and it was clear who offered more.

That’s always been the challenge for managers at United. Almost every pre-season we see youngsters look the business against weak(ish) opposition, followed by a clamour for them to immediately become a first team regular, followed by wailing and gnashing of teeth when that doesn’t happen. It could well happen here.

Gomes does seem to be a step above most academy graduates but there’s still a very good chance that Ole will stick with a more experienced option. For obvious reasons. This thread will be fun if/when that happens.

Personally, I will only be really disappointed if Ole doesn’t play the kids in the League Cup games or FA Cup against weaker opposition. I hated the way Mourinho killed off this tradition. Those competitions are perfect for giving youngsters a chance to stake a claim for first team minutes. Certainly a much better measure of where they’re really at than pre-season strolls in the park.
