even if that is what he wants in order to sign a new contract? ala henderson
If Gomes said "I want to go on loan and I'll sign a new contract" then sure, it's a great move in terms of retaining a top academy talent. From a first team perspective, though, we should have brought in more midfield/attacking depth if we had any inkling of Gomes wanting to leave on loan for the season. We would look even weaker in that department if this goes through.

I don't want to post the same thing twice from from our front 4 we have lost lukaku and added greenwood and james so front 4 looks like it has more depth.

I don't see gomes playing in a double pivot personally

If we don’t sign any midfielder then he better get the minutes.

OGS will get the blame if Gomes leaves free to another team.
Lingard will always get picked ahead of him by Ole, as Ole loves Lingard from when he coached the reserves.

He was the only hope of not seeing the dross of Lingard and Mata both starting nearly every week, the season gets less interesting by the day.

If he goes on loan to Sheffield Utd, he should play regularly. If he stays, he'll probably get the odd 10 minutes here and there.

Plus, his contract situation means we can't really say no without losing him.

My only worry would be whether we have a recall option - as long as we do, then I think it makes sense

He's not going there, the rules wouldn't allow it.

Didn't realize you'd posted a reply to this already, if that's what you're saying - not meaning to make you "post the same thing twice."

I don't see Gomes as a double pivot, but as an AM (the Mata/Lingard role). If he goes on loan, we're stuck with Mata/Lingard as our only creative midfielders/attackers. I like Mata and think he can do a job when played as a number 10, but if he has an off game or gets hurt, we're looking at Lingard as our only hope to fill that gap. That's pretty grim.

They already have Henderson on loan.

- Premier League clubs may not register more than two players on loan at any one time.
- The maximum number of loans registrable in the same season is four, and, under no circumstances, shall more than one be from the same club at any one time.
- Premier League clubs cannot loan to another Premier League club a player they have acquired in the same transfer window.
- A Premier League club may loan not more than one of its goalkeepers to another Premier League club.

Thanks - totally wasn't aware that PL clubs could only loan one player from a single club.

He can’t go to Sheffield anyway, and will battle Ravel for a spot too, may not win that one.

Hope, We Lose
Fifty goals and god knows how many assists while playing under four different managers, out of position and benched, during our utter turmoil and having to try and slide rule passes into El Tigger (Falcao) and Toblerone boots (Lukaku).

This place man.
Lukaku who did well to turn quarter chances into goals when in form last season. Mata wasnt supplying the passes

I got big hopes for this kid. Hopefully he gets a run in the Europless league. Him and Greenwood could be the finds of the season.

Get him to sign a contract extension. At least he is young and promising. Can't go wrong as he would have resale value if things don't work out perfectly

One worry I do have is that we'll play him a ton, give him lots of minutes, we'll finish out of the Champions League places due to how poor our squad is, and then he'll move on due to lack of Champions League football.

He's been a underwhelming signing for the price we paid for him. He turned into nothing more than a squad player with his immobility and lack of dynamism in the last 5 years.

He is/was a poor mans David Silva with people like yourself blowing his trumpet. He did write a good blog though..

If he doesn’t feature often enough at the beginning of the season we could always start being very vocal as fans. Most likely won’t sway the coaching staffs mind BUT would at least make Ángel feel extremely wanted

Can he still be sent on loan to a championship team or what’s the rules?

Gomes was very much there during that time too though junior so it's not like he won't know about him either.

I think it's his physical stature that coaching staff still doubts.

Even lingard broke into the team late due to this.

Good idea. We need to do whatever we can to make him feel valued to get him to sign his new deal. If he doesn't feature enough this season I feel he will go in the summer on a free. Would dislike Woody even more if Gomes fulfills his potential somewhere else:mad:

We all love United
He's only 18. He should stay at the club by training and developing here with better players. He has also said players like Mata has been giving him good pointers. Let's hope the manager gives him some games in the first team. If he's good enough, he'll play

 Seriously? An 18 year old who's not even made the first team yet, and we have to secure CL football to retain him? Come on now.
