I can't remember why I joined this war.
Lost his head early, didin't recover it for the rest of the 1st half.
Unfortunately yes. Fell for the provocations of a more experienced player. It was good to see Young going to him after his second foul that might have already gotten him sent of and have a talking to him. That's the kinda stuff I wanna see from guys like him.

He's been rubbish but I'd have liked to have seen him on with Rashford. 2-0 down, no harm in trying.

Shocking display, flashbacks of last season where he kept on running into dead ends and horrible decision making.

He needs to hide more on the pitch, and Mou won't mind him. Works very well for Mkhi.

Yeah he was crap. But to be fair who wasn't? At least he showed some semblance of threat, unlike Mata and Lingard.

Mourinho´s management of Martial is really mind boggeling, put Martial in the city side and we would be jealous as fuk
Why on earth would you not back a young talent like him up in a game like this?

Unless Martial is able to constantly beat his man he's pretty useless and is never involved in games. He really needs to watch so tapes of Neymar, Messi, Mbappe and Hazard to see how one can make themselves useful if their dribbling isn't working. He's frustratingly one dimensional

He didn't play well, like all the other forwards, but the worry about him getting red made the sub inevitable. Can't argue with Mourinho's decision to be fair.

Tried really hard to make things happen. Looked like the only player actually carrying a threat. Still, kept making some very basic mistakes. Very frustrating performance overall.

Starting to think there might be a reason for that.
Is it? That's questionable since the point was he can't get 2 games on form - that's down to him not having 2 games aswell as him being young. Is rashford playing one game at a time for the same reason? Utter trash management of some good young players. This undying love for José over these players is questionable indeed.

Where did I defend Mourinho? Martial has been hot and cold for a while now. He needs to show more consistency.

You can't blame him after that first half.
But why take off the player with arguably the highest potential, in a senario he is at his best? Having posession, controlling and attacking.
We were under 2-0 away from home. It´s not like Huddersfield is gonna keep attacking us, we were allways gonna have the most posession and the incentive to attack. Do you not agree?

He can't do that if he doesn't get consistent games. You won't pass your driving test if you change car every week and take a lesson every couple of months.

Because he wasn't doing any of that today for whatever reason. He looked completely off his game. Potential doesn't win you football matches. I think him being on a yellow really pushed the decision to take him off.

Got frustrated pretty badly at our inability to get him the ball in attacking areas but didn't expect him to start taking it out on their players. Poor composure.

Because he was shite and a tackle away from getting sent off. You can talk about potential all you like.

Not great. Still think we might have got a draw if we'd kept him on with Rashford. Sick of this rotation stuff with our two biggest young talents. Mhki and Lingard did nothing

Nah, he got pissed off 6 minutes in when the guy went in dangerously on him. I mean, shit like this happens, it's disappointing he lost his cool like that. Was the right decision to take him off by all accounts, he'd get sent off today.

Should have stayed on and Lingard should have been subbed. Play him in Lingard's position where he doesn't have to mark the full back as well for once.

He's usually the guy that makes the attempt to link up play in tight spaces. So not sure where you get off on the idea that he's only a dribbler.

They knew from minute one how to deal with him. Ball to feet and double/triple up on him.
That's a common occurrence. Interestingly enough, I feel like we don't exploit that enough tactically. If teams are double and tripling up on Martial then it stands to reason that other areas of the pitch must be exposed. Now, either Martial isn't looking for this or his teammates aren't positioning themselves to receive it. One thing I'm certain of is that when Martial is one on two/three, there ought to be Young with him and a central midfielder drawing close to offer options. This isn't happening.

That's the problem with rotating him and Rashford. Threat comes from only one area. They wouldn't be able to double/triple up on two wingers.

Exactly, but for some people everything is either black or white.

Martial was poor today, coupled with the fact he was booked early on and kept on conceding niggling fouls. He'd been sent off given we were chasing the game.

Right decision by Mourinho to take him off, also this Rashford Martial debate is tiresome. Rashford has shown more than Martial in difficult situations this season and should be deservedly ahead of him.

People are willing to just forget how football works to fit whatever agenda the have, usually in order to praise/criticise some player.

Shocking today. Hope he can turn it around quickly against Swansea. Need much more effort from him though!
