He's going to flop badly in this system. We can't press high because he isn't fast, dynamic or agile enough, soon as the attacker touches the ball down the side of him, he's away and we're then left exposed.

I'd happily eat my words here but this is another £60m wasted.

Some very good foward passes, positional Awareness is very sound must start next match.

Not bad, but genuinely a little worried about him. He looks slow, and difficult to see how he'll fit into this system.

Hope I'm wrong though!

I'm surprised there's positive comments. There was a lot of sloppy passes tonight but he obviously gets himself on the ball far more than Mctominay.

Our season is probably quite reliant on him hitting form so he needs to be given some consecutive starts.

Glad the first 5-10 comments were reasonable and balanced imo.

I said he can become bit of a tempo setter for us and in the first half before the goal, he along with Martinez was our de facto playmakers from the back.

Playing Eriksen and Bruno in their current state is an issue that nobody on their own can solve. Not even Kante.

We could have spent that £70m + huge wages so much better in the summer.

Yeah the biggest issue is Bruno and Eriksen together. It leaves way to much work for any DM in the world.
Bench Bruno and move Eriksen to 10 and then Fred or McT next to Casemiro and we will look much better, and I am sure Casemiro will come good then.

Better, but still not great. I'm a little worried that he's seen his best days, but will reserve judgement until he starts around 5 more games for us. If he looks no better at that point then that'll be a worry.

Hopefully he'll round into form and establish himself as worthy of having 22/23 match bookmarks.

Looked decent at best.
Be very surprised if he improves this side any.
Given the money involved, he should quickly settle in.
Fingers crossed!

A Fred-Casemiro-Bruno/Eriksen midfield will be so more balanced

I really wish ETH would go for this, specifically Eriksen. But I don't see ETH dropping Bruno unfortunately and I don't think it would work as well without Eriksen.

Fred - Casemiro - Eriksen with Rashford - Martial - Antony in front of them has a lot of potential I think.

I agree. That would give us more balance and a player each with a different style in midfield. Fred could be like the ball winner, Casemiro protects the defence and then eriksen as the creative playmaker. Don’t think Fernandes is being dropped though just because when he’s on it his numbers are incredible and he offers goals from midfielder, no other midfielder does.

Difference is FDJ didn’t want to come. Grealish 100% would of that summer.

Just unfortunately Villa stayed up, right now it's starting to look like we should have paid what Villa wanted and signed him instead of Sancho.

sunday would be a good timing to test if he is ready to start in PL.

hope we will start like this:
Rashord - Martial -Antony
Fred/McTom - Casemiro - Erikssen

Bruno is too wasteful and I want him dropped.

Agree but won't be dropped

This exactly. It keeps the quality and competition very fresh at a critical number 10 position and balances the midfield out, especially for the tougher games where ball retention is important.

So let me get this straight, he didnt play much or started much, yesterday he was solid and needs games.

But apparently its money wasted?

Pair him with Fred and watch him flourish. He's also a much better passer than i expected him to be. I wish he would stop diving in though, it leaves us very exposed when he's beaten high up the pitch. It might sound crazy for a player who has played in so many big games, but i genuinely think he's nervous when he plays for us. He doesn't look like he's at 100% yet imo. He needs to trust himself and his ability more, he's obviously much better than what we've seen so far.

Why cant we play midfield 3 of Casemiro Fred and Eriksen?

"My Bruno shall always play" is getting annoying now.

I don't really support the play fred, eriksen, case calls. Fred even when on form is a liability with his passing and his control. If I was to add someone with eriksen and case it would probably be mct in a box to box role.

Regarding case he looked a bit better yesterday, still if you took that performance and mct's average performance id have mct starting. But case has improved so maybe it is a fitness and period of adjustment that is needed which will only come from a run of games.

There was a game we tried with McTom - Eriksen - and Fred (was it against Sociedad?). It was a disaster. Casemiro is better player than McTom but hasn't shown much better so far.

EtH's team needs a deep playmaker, and he's not into using two DMs (with little playmaking) at the base. That's why FDJ would be perfect because he can defend. But now Erikson is a must there.

Not really. We were playing a pub team and they could have scored 3 or 4. That doesn’t scream solid performance from our specialist DM to me. You’d have to wonder why the feck Eriksen was the only CM who got involved in trying to stop their opening goal.

The football world is a made place. No more McFred they said, we need a world class proper DM they said….we got one and we don’t play him or there are fans that are even suggesting after a few performances that he’s going to be a flop. Watch this space, fans will be asking for McFred back….

In his position he does not need to press high, why should he? Never did that for RM, that's not his role.
The problem is more that some people think he is shit because of his slow start, and that will remain

Odd one that Pogue, Keane likely wouldn’t have made it back from Casemiro’s position, nor prime Makelele or Fabinho. Hell, I’d be surprised if Rashford would’ve made it back. Let’s not pretend top DMs haven’t had tonnes of counter attacking goals scored against them when they are up for corners or free kicks.

Eriksen drops deeper directly when it looks like Sancho is going to cross, as he has zero aerial threat. Sancho is the other fecking closest player to Malacia and he can’t get back. Casemiro as an aerial threat was one of the players who stayed highest up the pitch for the expected Sancho cross. Eriksen is actually level with Malacia as he loses the ball.

There’s a still at 1:58 that shows exactly why Eriksen made it back, he’d been out on the right after taking the initial free kick. It’s pretty normal there that the free kick taker would be the one to drop back in, no player could’ve expected Sancho to make such a brain dead pass and sell Malacia up the river.

As for scoring 3 or 4, sure they scored the second and had the lob chance after he went off.

We got free kick in the dangerous position and Casemiro was one of the player who was attacking threat in the box. Sancho from the edge of the box passed the ball back and Malacia lost the ball. Most of the attacking threat players were in the opposition box and when Sancho had ball, Casemiro moved bit wide in the box to be passing option.

Martinez did extremely well to be back but don't think Casemiro is that quick to catch up the attackers.

Also Eriksen was the one who took that free kick, so when Malacia received the pass, he dropped deep to receive the pass and cross the ball.

So they both made themselves available for a pass and the player on the opposite flank to the breakaway was the one who got back first. Make sense.

I'm not panicked yet

But there were threads saying he is the greatest ever in his position before we signed him this summer

He is prime age

Hasn't shown anything yet

Even if he wasnt solid which I think he was he needs games and I dont see the point of branding him of waste of money. Not that I think you meant that.
Also I dont remember them being that dangerous other than 2 goals we let in cause of our errors.

Casemiro moved couple of yards to the left in the box to be the option, Eriksen dropped deeper to receive pass from Malacia as he was out of the box in the whole sequence of play (as he was the one who took free kick).

Malacia lost the ball exactly in the center of the pitch, which flank doesn't matter. That's anyways won't matter as Casemiro wasn't in the same position as Eriksen, one was outside the box to deliver the cross, other was inside the box as attacking threat.

I don’t think he’s a waste of money. I hope he ends up proving he was a wise investment. That can still happen. I’ve been disappointed with what I’ve seen so far though. Maybe more games will make him better? We certainly have to hope so. He’s looked well off the pace so far.

Yeah, first 5-10 were ok, the rest was..
Well. Classic redcafe.

Yeah, I think he just needs games to settle in the system and to get the way we play.
