He got his money though? He could have stayed at Madrid at the wage he had at the time...
I don't think staying at real madrid at the time is an option for him as he knew the management no longer appreciate him anymore and plan to replace his role in the team with Bale, and that's why he and Zidane left.
I can see him moving to City this summer. A match in heaven to be honest. City needs an experienced striker and CR7 is available. Now it is just a matter of agreeing a fee with Juventus. This is the hard part.

I gotta stop browsing the Cafe while I'm drinking my morning coffee :lol:

Ronaldo did say Madrid had offered him what Juve pay him now in the end but the bridge had already been burned.

Ah well, he made a mistake then. I thought it sensible at the time from Real's perspective to let him go. After all they brought him at 24 and then recouped the transfer money at 33, a brilliant move from a business point of view.

I think seeing him play for City would be another nail in the coffin of me trying to keep alive some of the love I had for this sport when I was younger. There's been so much stuff in the last 5 or so years that has simply just made me quite disillusioned with it all. Of course I still love football, but the passion is different now, maybe that's just part of getting older though.

Logically it was always likely that Ronaldo didn't really give much of a feck about our club, but part of me wanted to believe.

Some just appreciate the athlete more than the sport/branding. Given sports teams here are franchises there's more focus on the athlete I feel.

Anyway I will have an existential crises if he went to City so I won't believe it -- smoke screen for Ronaldo to United!
Admit it sham, you'll dye your hair light blue, sign up to Bluemoon and start supporting City if he signs!

- Probably would’ve won his 6th Ballon D’or (and the first to do so) that year if he didn’t move (Should’ve won ahead of Modric).
-Most likely would have led Madrid to at least another CL final (probably making him a strong contender for his 7th BDOR).
-Would probably have scored another 50 odd goals considering Juve’s defensive style.
-Would have won the league titles he won at Juve at Madrid anyway.

The truth is that Juve never matched his ambition. The team was severely lacking when he joined them.
Playing in a harder league = never matched his ambition.

Yeah. His (and Perez’s) ego cost him and Madrid in the end as they had long standing disputes which was what led to his eventual departure.

Any chance we can take Ronaldo and give juventus martial, hell give them martial and 20 million on top too.

I’m confident that 2 seasons of Ronaldo would beat martial whole contribution while at united.

Some of you lot really need to assess how football influences your emotional state. People on here talking about Ronaldo at City causing them to lose their love for the game.

How is that in relation to emotional state?

Acrually I support United since around 1990, for over 30 years. I support Ronaldo since 2003, for around 18 years. United always come first for me, but Ronaldo is a very close second. I know it’s tough when there conflict of interest (for example Ronaldo playing against us), but I won’t totally give up my support, just because he joined our rivals. You see I am not a black or white kind of person, there are things I could compromise.
Good grief. Everything that’s wrong with a modern football fan in one post. I think I vomited a bit in my mouth.

I can sort of relate to this to a bit. I love American sports, but Ronaldo playing for City would feel very similar in that there isn't that same level of loyalty with players, and they will play for any team given the right circumstances.

What am I going to do with my signed Ronaldo shirt I have in my games room?

Losing love for the game for me has nothing to do with emotional state though, well for me anyway. I'll just sigh and move on, like with most of the shite things that happen in football these days. People on here seem like they'll actually cry or it'll cause some inner conflict with their love of Utd because of how much they adore Ronaldo, which is baffling.

But it is quite tragic to see someone who was so important for us, still mostly loved by the fanbase, joining that joke outfit.

Still it probably won't even happen.

If Ronaldo went to City I'd be gutted to be honest. Those 07-09 years were my happiest years as a football fan and he was our star man. The best player I'd ever seen in a United shirt.

I echo the sentiments of Judas above. As a kid growing up and following United religiously between 99 and 09, Ronaldo moving there would just cement the feeling of the sport that I loved not being the same anymore. I'm thankful that I grew up at the most magical time possible for a United fan. It just ain't the same when you are an adult.

And I could count on my hands the number of games involving Ronaldo I've watched since he left United. It's just the United memories for me.

Imagine asking someone if they have any hobbies and they responded with "Supporting Ronaldo". I'd laugh at first and then slowly turn to confusion and horror at their unchanging face and slow nodding.
Whilst slowly backing the feck away.

Well, that is football for you. The fans won't like it, but it's not something we haven't seen before: Schmeichel, Hargreaves, Tevez, Law. In Italy this happens quite often.

Never a legend for me.

lf he stayed a few more years and left in good terms he definitely would've been.

But the fact he left after those slavery comments (not counting that last year) put his legend status down the drain.

Well it’s very rare case for me or anyone supporting a player for over 18 years, while no other player has ever gather a fanbase of over 330 million in this world before, for me I simply regard him as my only exception. For other people, their only exception could be someone whom they have close connection to. It doesn’t matter, my point being, there are always exception.

In response to your example on club legend, let’s just say if Rooney or Ruud or Evra or even Scholes or Giggs or Keane joining a rival, of course I won’t cheer for them, as they are nothing more than club legend to me. Whereas Ronaldo to me, he is more of “religion” or even a “cult” thing to me, rather than just a hobby, hence I am comfortable to admit myself as a Ronaldo fanboy, even with all the potential backlash in future Messi vs Ronaldo argument. I’d say he is an exception to those who has shared the same fanboy mentality too. And no I don’t fanboy anyone or any other player, except Ronaldo.
Can I ask you a question.

How many times have you fapped over Ronaldo?

That depends on how you thought of football and players. Belief that players are actually emotionally attached to clubs and care about the clubs is by and large very misguided.

Players care about two things. Money and trophies. They don’t care about history, the size of the stadium, how passionate the fans are or any of that crap, as much as we try to claim that those things have any actual bearing. In that regard City are anything but a joke outfit.

Put that together with the fact that Ronaldo never actually cared about United, which was obvious even from his time here, and our fanbase has fawned over him like a jilted lover since he left, and I don’t see how this move can actually affect anyone to that extent?

I've seen players come and go since supporting United.

I was just a kid when Beckham left United and I tried "supporting" Real Madrid then, I mean I was just a kid, I liked Becks but the novelty wore off as I was and still am United through and through.

If and that's a big IF, Ronaldo went to United, I'd never forgive him. Still feels weird seeing Schmeichel in a City shirt too. Especially after the treble winning days. Just why?

Not as bad as joining Liverpool, but close enough. Unforgiveable, especially after all the things he's said about not wanting to join another PL club other than United.

In all honesty, I think it's Mendes putting out feelers, it's his job after all. (Usually without the knowing of their client too) what would happen is the agent would shop his player around and then go to the player and say club x,y,z are interested, what do you think?

It very rarely is the case of the other way round, (or so I think) - as the job of the agent is to shop their player around.

Did you genuinely believe he cared about the club when he pulled off all the slavery nonsense and the "Only God knows the future" nonsense every summer?

Yes but, I assume everyone has some sort of unhealthy obsession on something (alcohol, sex, porns, gambling, smoking, football, music, politics, checking out birds, or even golfing etc) It’s just the degree of obsession isn’t same for everyone. If it’s manageable I think it’s perfectly fine.
"Here son, we've all got our vices. Yeeeeaaar back in '78 I fell down a deep miserable hole. Violence. Abuse. Self loathing. Destruction. All for the bottle. Just one measure I said. And again. And again. Finally got wise to it. Kids don't wanna know now. All messed up like but thas life. What 'bout you boy. What's your story?"

@RedRonaldo "...it's uh. Ron...it's complicated"

I'll tell you what, if Ronaldo does go to City, the last thing I want to see is some disingenuous non-celebration when he inevitably scores against us. And I hope we boo him relentlessly.

Personally hope he goes to PSG, just to see him and Messi play together.

I have a proposal to make Ligue 1 more competitive - Divide the PSG team into two teams for the league. Let them fight it out. Merge them for the CL games. Messi and Neymar for team A, with Ronaldo and Ramos for team B. Players can switch teams in the course of the season.

I wouldn't be surprised if these oil clubs start buying a second club in their leagues, just to make the league more competitive

Why have the Americans not tried to arrest this guy? Isn’t he on the wanted list?

If United wanted him, I'm sure he'd be on a plane already. He definitely seems like he wants to leave Juve. Maybe City is his only realistic option given the Kane pursuit has now gone on ice. That, or PSG if Mbappe leaves.

Ole has numerous times said it would be a no-brainer to sign him. But the club may view it differently. Personally, I'd love to see him back for sentimental reason and sporting reasons, as well as the attitude he would bring to training and the dressing room for such a young team that is still trying to carve out an identity.

So if City went into the last game needing to win otherwise United are crowned champions, you’d celebrate a Ronaldo winner in the 90th minute that hands them the title?
Tricky one, if United has a chance to win the title but Ronaldo scored a last minute winner to win it for City, I'd probably be very very sad as United fan but proud as Ronaldo fan. Its mix of feeling very sad and proud, so its complicated. Its like losing a match which means alot to you, but also winning a bet which earns you a good amount of reward. Life is never as simple or linear as you might think it is.

It's an honest question, you seem pretty obsessive so i'd say it's only logical you've tugged one out.
I am also very obsessive about Man Utd. Everyone is obsessive into something to various degree. For me, obsession on Man Utd vs Ronaldo is 6:4.
But since you have post 3 times more than me here (over 30k posts in Man Utd forum), i'd say its only logical you've tugged one out too.

jesus wept.

Sat there as City snatch the title from us feeling "proud"

Except that isn't what happened. He kicked off about his contract and threatened to go to City. That's what tarnished his reputation.
Not really. Rooney didn't really go public until Fergie had that press conference (quite the masterstroke). That's when all the information came out. Now compare this to a certain Portuguese who gave interview after interview crying about his desire to leave, his "slave" like treatment and his desire to play in white. When you think of that, the crazy adulation Ronaldo receives is nuts. The man may have admired/loved Fergie but he couldn't care less about United. I understand why people disliked Rooney but it's the completely opposite treatment that Ronaldo got for behaving in a FAR worse and, you know, actually leaving the club, is bewildering.

The respect and affection I had for Rooney stopped in 2010 when all that shit happened and it never came back.

I agree though, Ronaldo gets away with it from a lot of the fans who love him but also criticise Rooney.

Quite pathetic from him offering himself to City when they don't even want him.
