I think he knew how to fix it, but he just wasn't given enough time, it was obvious Rio, Vida and Evra were all but finished at the top level and needed replacing asap, Moyes spent all Summer trying to sign Leighton Baines to replace Evra, yet of the 53 matches that season Evra started 44, and Rio and Vida combined played 53, so Moyes was constantly mixing and matching at the back with Smalling, Evans, Jones, Rafael and Buttner in and out of the side, hardly ideal not being able to get a settled back-four - the foundation for any successful season.
Then factor in the continued absence of Darren Fletcher when he should've been coming into his own, meaning Carrick basically had to carry the midfield.
And it's funny that although Moyes had a reputation as a defensive Coach, all the strikers(Rooney, van Persie, Chicharito and Welbeck) had good goal returns.
We played some good stuff at times, but it was always the defence that let us down, and i'm not sure anybody(SAF apart)would have done any better with that collection of has-beens, wannabes and never will erm bees.
ps. Moyes still had the chance to qualify for the Europa League, something Ryan Giggs failed to do, so would it really have mattered if we'd given Moyes the last 4 games to at least try and achieve that, as apposed to binning him as a failure - and yes I know to most United fans being in the Europa League is considered failure.
pps. Hearsay about him not being popular, but there were a few people(no names needed) that distanced themselves from Moyes when he probably needed them most.
