Lad is just a joy to watch in midfield. He makes everything clicks around him with his touches, passes and movement. Tonight's midfield should be our main one to be honest.

Can't wait to see more idiots say he's only a 10 and can't play box to box.

Really good. His passing is clearly a level above the rest of our CMs...

Problem is we only ever seem to look remotely solid when we have Fred and McT in there...so how do we solve this?

Good performance but he's still too timid with the ball. He doesn't try to make things happen often enough.

He needs to be playing one way or another doesn't he, and with Bruno.

Buy someone better than them to play beside him.

If we buy a DM or Fred calms his erratic touches down a bit - having DvB & Bruno ahead of a holding midfielder is a tasty proposition. Definitely best when he's in the CM role getting lots of touches and generally being able to affect play, tempo and can put in a decent tackle as well when needed.

Agreed he disappears too much otherwise, good performance and would like to see him in the deeper role more often.

Agree. I think it is Pogba who should be under threat.
We've been playing with a midfield of Bruno, Fred & Mctominay. Matic here and there. There's even been threads on this forum saying it's our strongest midfield. Weird to see people speaking about Pogba when he's hardly gotten any starts.

What the hell is going on?

His strength is his late runs into the box. Play him as a 6. Did we scout him or get him mixed up with De Jong?
This went well.

He should be starting the majority of games we are going to dominate, Fred and McT when we need to be more solid.

I'm one of Pogbas biggest fans, but he should be taking the rotation option for now until he proves its worth starting him again.

Love the kid. A proper footballer and works his socks off too. Some fantastic passes to Bruno and the little one touch football we did in the early 15 minutes was beautiful

With a player of Van de Beek's quality you would not expect anything other than good performances, that's what we got. However, there was an obvious weakness with him and Fred in midfield. Besaksehir had a number of good chances in the first half and had a long period, maybe 20 minutes, of dominance in the second half. Maybe if he can build up his physicality you can see a role for him as a starter. However, with our defensive weaknesses you can only see him playing middling opposition or when Bruno needs a rest.

Finally he was played. Excellent and no one is surprised...maybe OGS. Energy, creativity, one touch football.

Every time Pogba is fit people want him in. I wouldn't. Donny should have started against WBA and I bet we would have been more convincing. There are games you need two DM's, but there are also games you need a VdB.

Wonder if he could play with Scott.

Great game. Maybe this was Ole's plan all along, he was just waiting for the right time to play him deeper.

Defensively him and Fred might need work, a lot of work but give them some time. VDB doesnt shy away from playing defense, he is well disciplined, he will play with energy, why not give it a go.
His one touch passing is great for us, releases the ball quickly, great movement.
Just hope him and Fred can hold their own defensively.

great game, great passer, calm on the ball and made us tick.just not sure we can play him and one DM against a top attacking side.

He has almost everything in his game, amazing awareness, intelligence, touch, short passing.. if he could add long passing to his game he would be an amazing 6.

People wanting Pogba to play has no substantial effect on reality, and reality is Pogba is not the one keeping vdB out of the team. He’s played a bit part this season so far, much like vdB. Our midfield has been Bruno, Fred and Mct. If people want vdB playing then one of those three needs to drop. It isn’t Pogba who’s not been a starter for a while.

Isn't our midfield being Bruno, Fred and McT part of the reason we are in the league position we are, all the creativity down to Bruno where Donny would take some of the weight off his shoulders.

Probably not yet.
However we do well against teams like those.
We struggle against breaking teams down and VDB seems like a perfect choice in the midfield for those games.

Obviously way better as a passer, facilitator than McTominay, also much more comfortable in posession, quicker thinking than Pogba.
