And so have I. But the moral of the story is it doesn't matter what I wanted, or what you want. If the other guy wants to smash a bottle in your face, there's very little you can do about it. Again, not to say this definitely what happened. But no amount of retrospective thinking is going to start someone with a hard-on for violence.

I think it's more than a bar with a few drunkards. If the reports are anything to go by, then this was a concerted effort to, at the very least, goad Maguire into conflict.

Oh don't be. I didn't grow up in the most pleasant of places. It was hardly Tijuana, but there was a lot of dickheads around and I did a pretty good job of avoiding them. It was just unfortunate that these two events happened less than 6 months apart.
Ah damn

Did he at least say "this bud's for you" when he hit you with it?
If only. It was one of them odd moments where he didn't expect me to still be standing, and I didn't expect the bottle to break quite so easily. So we just sort of stared at each other, then at the bouncer about 3 feet away, who in turn stared at both of us, until he was quietly escorted the dickhead out of the bar. So many opportunities for one liners wasted.

I was only around 18 and still living at home. It took a lot to convince my mum I'd been bottled for a 2nd time in half and year and it wasn't my fault either time.

I don't know how to interpret this, your mum knows who she raised. Are you telling us the truth Ivaldo? :nono:

This thread looks like the World Cup and Euro threads when England lose or get knocked out. Always turns in to this.

This might come as a shock to you, but I had something of a reputation for running my mouth. It just so happened I didn't run my mouth on these two occasions, but I got bottled anyway!

True. I also ask myself what he is doing at a club where there is even remote possibility of English lads. Recipe for trouble, as soon as he is spotted by any fans of another club, he is going to get abuse.
Reminds me of a player who grew up in the town I was living. Went on to play for Premiership clubs and score winner once at O.T. He was in a local club and some guy asked him what it was like to score “that” winner. He replied “You’ll f**n never know” . A brawl ensued.

Going by Trump's instagram and twitter pictures they must have been boozing pretty hard all day . Whatever way you look at it it is not a good look for the Captain of Manchester United

We are living in different times now and with so many people unable to go away or even just out for a night things like this look bad

That literally makes no sense. So if you got arrested for something that you didn't even do, you would be happy to be punished by your employer because it makes their company look bad?

So opposition fans singing nasty songs about a footballer is justifiable context for violence in return? Is that what you are arguing for?

Do you remember the level of abuse Beckham used to get after Argentina game in 1998? Dont remember him getting into a fight with idiot opposition fans.

of course they were trying to goad him into a fight! That’s hardly surprising. He shouldn’t place himself in such situations if he can’t emotionally deal with it.
If the story is complete, they stabbed Maguire's sister arm with a sharp object.

So that’s the ‘compromise’ that was reached. He has his get out clause.

Doubt Maguire will be allowed to ever set foot again in Greece which will make future CL or international games a controversy.
? What makes you even say that?!?

He should have told that to the police when they arrived then, not punch and swear at them even after he was arrested and taken to the precinct.
Between communication issues, the context (there was a brawl after all) and all, I wouldn't be surprised if it was lost in translation.

A mate of mine was involved in a similar situation (in the UK so not identical).
2 of his drunken mates got into an altercation with 4 lads who were giving them sh*t after a night out.

My mate and his 2 pals got the upper hand on the 4 tossers and then 3 plain clothes police officers ran over and detained my mate and his buddies (who admittedly were kicking lumps out of the other lads at this point).

In the heat of the situation, thinking the plain clothes coppers were friends of the 4 lads getting battered, my mate & pals resisted being detained and threw a few punches at the coppers until they pulled out badges and walkie-talkies radioing for backup.

Anyway because the police didn't make themselves known before intervening, my mate and his pals were let off scott-free without even going to trial.

Again this is a different country and context but I imagine maguire's lawyer(s) will use a similar argument that he wasn't to know who these police officers were and therefore was scared and defending himself.

Firstly we don't know the full story and all the speculation isn't doing any good. We know Harry was arrested with two other males but he and one of the others have pleaded not guilty to the charges. He has been released and can going home to England as he doesn't need to appear on Tuesday. He could get a maximum 7 years but more than likely it will be a three year Jail term but with the Prisons over there overcrowded he will be allowed to pay off his jail time costing approximately £90,000 if he is found guilty. At the moment United fans should stand with and behind their captain. It reminds me of the Champagne incident with Roy Keane years ago, there is lots more about this story we are not hearing

I'm not anti Scottish, I just wanted Moyes out.
The cops were undercover though.
What was it an undercover police station then?

"Maguire’s brother and friend, who had accompanied him for the evening out, are accused of assault and violence against police officers as they were entering a rented van to leave after midnight and then again after they reached the station. However, the situation took a turn for the worse when after arriving at the police station, Maguire and the other two men began “shouting and cursing” at the officers once more. "

That wasn't the reason they were arrested in the first place anyway, whatever afterwards when they arrived at Police Station are irrelevant.

Really? You think thats ok do you?
Well in the official police report it says that after they arrived at the police station they resisted and punched police officers, is that also ok?
I’d say for a group that has just been attacked and then arrested (while drunk) then a bit of shouting is pretty normal to be honest.

I don’t believe the 2nd part at all. I suspect a scuffle happened when they got arrested but just got a bit angry and then one of them tried to bribe them to let them go.

I very much doubt they’d be stupid enough to try and fight the police a 2nd time - and if they did they wouldn’t be letting him walk away so soon.

It's a hugely entertaining thread, in fairness. I'm starting to feel a little like I'm there, on the street, in the middle of the action. I'm waiting for someone to shout 'Leave it 'Arry! E's not wurf it!'

I’d say more a mix up of the facts, but to be honest yes why wouldn’t the police lie? Many times they over exaggerate charges and then drop them later on with a lack of evidence.

anyway it’s quite clearly not just a case of Maguire getting drunk and lashing out, this is very different. I believe he’s more than justified in self defence.

What reason would they have to add that to the police report? What reason would the police have to lie? what would they gain? You know if this was Rooney or Gerrard or some other bloke people love to hate these posts would be so different, now everyone's up coming with excuses, oh he didnt know they were coppers, oh the police are lying, oh its ok he was drunk and didnt know what he was doing.. just seems weird to me.

Great excuse to get the armband he doesn't deserve off him. Guilty or not its a terrible look for our club.
One witness claimed: “Harry went spare after seeing the blood on his sister and then it all kicked off big style.

“It was a nasty wound. Harry reacted just like anyone would if they saw a member of their family being attacked.”

Plain-clothes officers who were on patrol in the area rushed to stop the brawl - but Maguire is said to have mistaken the police for the attackers and lashed out at them.

The witness added: “Once Harry realised the police were not part of the original group he tried to explain what had happened.

“But because one of the officers had been hurt they weren’t having it and he was taken to the station with the others.”

It is believed Maguire was taunted by rival football supporters, which culminated in his sister Daisy being stabbed in the arm with a "sharp object."

Things are then said to have escalated, with a mass brawl erupting, and when police arrived to break things up Maguire was reportedly "verbally abusive to an officer and then hit him."

If this is the way things unfolded, the terrible look for the club, is you.

It's funny. You get all these hardmen claiming how the current game is ruined because "half the sissies like dan james spend most of the match rollin round on't floor. What would R Kid Roy Keane have to say about all that".

Then Maguire gets into a situation like this where his sister gets(allegedly) stabbed in the arm and he (allegedly) retaliates and now the overwhelming majority are saying its horrendous and he should be sacked and stripped of captaincy etc???

All you hardcore utd fans: if Maguire's sister was stabbed in the arm and he did F-all what would you have to say about that?

"this squad - no character-imagine keane/neville putting up with that".

let's just see what the court system deem what happened before we jump in and start criticising peoples character shall we?

Because he can buy his way out of jail and the police know it, the more changes, the higher possible sentence/fee. I am not saying thats true, but its weird the actual possibility of paying a fee to avoid going to jail, if reports are true.

Is anyone dumb enough to actually think this? Personally not bothered what the circumstances were unless he was being an absolute Gerrard. He's our guy and we stand by him.
