They started off fine, exceeding everyone's expectations, but in the last few months they've been brought back to their real level on a run of 9 defeats in 11 games (let's remember this is a side that has won promotion twice in succession! so they went from regulars in the 3rd tier of Spanish football to their 1st top flight campaign ever in the space of two seasons)

Yup, much was made of their finances before the season started... one of the lowest budgets of all teams in Primera ánd Segunda. They didn't even have enough capital at first to be in in accordance with league regs. They reached the target by selling shares to the public online.

Yeah, although that also owes much to those teams' poor starts to the season as well. Eibar pulled off some surprises for sure though in the 1st half of the season -- they were playing quite well.

Modric certainly, Isco's a more complex one. The stats say Madrid get more points when James plays instead of Isco, probably a balance question given that the standard lineup uses Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale ahead.
