Theres two ways of looking at Rashford.

He’s either

a) world class and in a bad run of form or…

b) an average player capable of purple patches

I’m firmly in camp B. I believe his purple patch will come …but it will also go again and unlike other world class players he can’t maintain it season in season out
Neither. He’s merely a good player - capable of spells of great end product but general play that tends to be sub par and not conductive to great team football.

Rashy is our international marquee player so there’s zero chance he’ll be benched for City, but he needs to benched for his own good.
City are definitely going to target our left flank especially when Rashford can’t be arsed half the time to track his fullback.

He is playing terribly… there is no doubt about it.

But for me, there is a subtle detail that is getting overlooked.

it might not seem like it, but playing on the left in a possession based 4141 and on the left in a counter attacking 4231 is significantly different.

Rashford is a specialist. He is an inside left channel player, who suits football on the break… with an overlapping full back taking a defender away to allow his 1 on 1 dribbles…. and he is very effective in that system.

4141 is far to slow in the build up for him, and forces him far too wide, where he is doubled up on, and forces him to be involved in intricate build up. Playing to all of his weaknesses and none of his strengths.

Rashford will never play well in this system… but he is not only player that the system doesn’t suit (Hi Bruno)
if he doesn’t suit our intended style, which I agree he doesn’t, we should get rid. It’s what Pep would do. He is good on the break but we don’t play most of our games on the break, and we shouldn’t be setting up like that against most teams.

he’s not skilled enough to contribute in most facets of our attack.

Agreed. Unfortunately, there isn't just one weakness in the squad that City can exploit but if there is such a thing as our weakest weakness, it's definitely on the left side as Rashford insists on running into dead ends all the time and can't be bothered to perform basic defensive duties. If Kyle Walker is fit, and I am no reason to believe he won't be, he'll be licking his chops from the first whistle to the fulltime whistle.

How is it a large proportion of United fans could see giving him that bumper contract was a huge mistake (even after a season where he scored 30+ goals) and yet the top brass at our club couldn’t. These are the decisions that are costing us. I could list another 10 without even thinking too hard. Obvious decisions that we get wrong and don’t seem to learn from.

The Rashford thing is easy as he is the poster boy of the club. PR gold is a trophy for this club

I think broadly I'd agree with this but I do think that if you've the players around him to make up for his deficiencies he is a great add for the side. Sort of like sterling at city. Problem is when he's poor (which he has been) we don't have the personnel to mask it.

Needs to be dropped or bitch slapped or hard love. Ever since the arrival of Rasmus he's been shite. From what were saying seems like he feels threaten by the arrival of a true forward or some kind of weird counter reaction or fear or stupidity at most with his plays.

You have a target man now who can and given the chance score goals but no. our wingers are conceited fools whom go for glory themselves and fails miserably. Such waste of talent compared to when he was still playing with a smile on his face compared to the snob, high nosed he is currently.

Same can be said of Anthony. No wonder our GD hovers around negative to 0.

I don’t care what anyone says, he’s one of the most overrated players I’ve ever seen in a United shirt.
Papers over the cracks of months and months of nothing performances with the odd purple patch.

He should not score anything above a 3 today. At best. I thought he was awful and offered us nothing. He's one of the more experienced players and should be ashamed of his performance.

Poser, needs to follow his buddy Lingard.

Most unintelligent player I have watched at United, considering the hype and salary. Useless.

His attitude is pure posion and has been for years.

As the face of the club, his complete loser mentality and lack of any standards or basic work ethic seeps through the team. He's very publicly seen no consequences for walking through matches, bottling out of every 50-50 and outright refusing to challenge for aerial balls. He quit on an entire season and just over a year later signed a £350kp/w 5 year contract.

He's absolutely emblematic of our problems and Ten Hag's 'my Rashy shall always play' quote yesterday should see him turfed out too.

If that game doesn't finally ensure he finds his arse on the bench then nothing will.

Absolute poser with the worst attitude on the pitch.

In terrible form and should be dropped for game or two at least, playing him into form isn’t working.

Nevermind what he offers in a forward capacity, which at the moment is very, very little - he is so non-competitive, has no winner mentality, just a complete non-event. £350k a week, what an absolute fecking joke that is.

What more do you need to say? He’s just not that good. This is not a blip or loss of form. This is what he is.

If he was not English, he would be getting all kinds of rightful criticism but the media just ignore it. He should be nowhere near the Euro 2024 squad on current form.

He'll never drop the golden boy, it'll effectively mean he's sacked.

Painfully average.

All the talk pre-match was that at least he performs in the big games. It’s just not true and I’ve seen wet paper bags with more strength.

Consistently poor decision making, awful attitude, jogging into a press, flat footed, etc.

For the love of god Erik, you have to drop him. Needs the Sancho treatment.

That contract he was given. Another one like the ones we gave rooney, ddg, Bruno....

Baffling club doing the same stuff over and over again

1 in 13.

Fancy displaying the stats of our other attacking players records this season. Cheers.

The play where he loses 2 consecutive backpost headers to Kyle Walker (who somehow wins both easily) sums up his season for me. I don't like "body language" assessments, but that was woeful. There are a lot of fair criticisms about his ability as a player - intelligence is the often mentioned one, and I think he also lacks a lot of fundamentals such as touch, ability to play across broader angles (he finds it very difficult to penetrate anything outside of a very narrow angle of play, say 20 degrees left/right) - but one that doesn't get mentioned enough is his power / physicality, which is amongst the worst in the league.

Offers nothing and looks so easy to play against. He shouldn't be playing.

Unbelievably poor again. Whatever it is FFS give him a break, even if it means starting Martial on the left.

Agendas against him are getting out of hand
What agendas? Genuinely perplexed. You think fans calling out a player who has been borderline terrible in every game this season is having an agenda?

Him and Bruno have been atrocious in every game they played yet keep starting. ETH is going to pay for it with his job. Maybe he already accepted his fate and is waiting for that severance pay.

I think he was our best player going forward...there is definitely some irrational judgment of his performances going on in here.

I still would like ETH to bring him of the bench in games as this week vs copenhagen and give Garnacho a go from the start here and there. He doesn't help himself nor Rashford nor the Team currently when playing him all the time.

Well, when every SINGLE one of our players looks terrible, there's more going on than Rashford.

He needs to be sold while some club might still be willing to pay for him.
But no one with a football brain making decisions at the club. Him and Bruno should be gone asap

Only thing worse than his performance today and indeed this season is the fact we are stuck with him for years now thanks to that stupidly huge contract we’ve given him.
