Penalty takers are never to blame. Its a lottery.

Southgate is to blame for his ridiculous tactics of trying to defend a 1-0 lead for the entire game. Such a crap manager

Both his managers have fecked him. Grueling year and he comes away with nothing.

Pray he comes back stronger.

Is it too much to hope him Sancho and Sakho do not get the expected abuse online tonight?

Hopefully Southgate will get the blame
Southgate should get the blame. Absolutely ridiculous decision to bring him and Sancho on without so much as a kick of the ball before the penalty.

At least bring them on at the start of extra time.

Not sure why sterling wasnt taking a penalty either.

He’ll need surgery again now though. Had a shoulder injury so bad he doesn’t need time off with nor is it one of those shoulder injuries that can be aggravated jumping in the pool. But it flares up strangely enough in response to criticism. A very emotionally sensitive injury.

You could see he was injured when he was taking the penalty. You could see his shoulder was not there to support him and his back couldn’t hold him up properly or something like that.

He's the highest profile of the penalty takers (missers) and has already received a feckton of racial abuse on social media. It's just the tip of the iceberg and it's going to be a horrid 2021/2022 season for him in regards to abuse around the country, I suspect.

Southgate did him up like a kipper; treated him even worse than Sancho this tournament.

"Ok, biggest moment in your professional careers, the entire nation is watching, you haven't touched the ball and you're probably nervous as shit. Good luck lads"

On a unrelated note: I hope that everyone who's racially abusing Rashford and everyone else on the England squad wakes up tomorrow with only cold water in the shower and violent diahrrea before they reach the toiletbowl. Scum.

I thought he came on at the start of extra time when he was stripped n ready. Couldn't believe he was still waiting last minute

Yeah cowardly wasn't it. Southgate never played to win and his shite tactics cost him the final.
I think when we beat Chelsea to win the CL, Anelka was just brought on to take a penalty by Grant was it. Anelka said he hated it years later or something like that.

Southgate really should have brought either Rashford or Sancho on instead of Saka when he came on.

Imagine how much belief Ole probably gave him before the PSG penalty

Imagine how little Southgate gave him before tonight.

He is spot on. Either you're fit enough to play or you're not, if you're not then go away and get the surgery, if you are fit enough then you'll be judged same as any other player. Constantly using this mysterious injury as an excuse is pathetic.

He was thrown into the swimming pool against his wishes . Disgraceful scenes . How are expected to take a penalty when he was swimming 24 hours earlier.

He will get stick but it's a penalty shoot out, it happens. Jorginho and Marcus are probably two of the better takers in World football and both missed. Especially when you throw him on, having barely played all tournament for the pure intention of taking penalties, that is unbelievable pressure for any player, let alone one who is still relatively young.

It's understandable that people are frustrated but the best players of all time miss penalties at key moments, see Messi, Ronaldo, Terry etc. Someone is eventually bound to miss

Does not deserve abuse for this. Shit management from Southgate, throwing 2 players straight into a penalty shootout. Madness.

Especially after showing no trust in them earlier. Suddenly, he needed them, but not enough to actually given them a chance to change the game. Shambolic.
