If it’s that simple, lots of inferior players would have scored more goals than Pele. But truth is, only Ronaldo does that.

Take a moment away from your own bias, think about that.
Good for him. What does any of that have to do with the fact that he isn't as good a goalscorer as Messi?

It means his record since turning 30 is legendary on its own. 342 in 370 games. That’s not just longevity, that’s other worldly.
Yes for me, Ronaldo at age 20-29 represent the best version of him, full of pace, tricks, explosiveness, talent and all roundness in attack.

Yet 30+ represent the greatest version, full of goals, impacts, success and big clutch moments.

For Maradona and Pele case, perhaps it’s because they didn’t play in same era and sharing the same platform. Imagine if both Pele and Maradona were playing in same era, and both of them being outspoken character, the toxic of these discussions would be unbearable during their playing days too.

It’s true Ronaldo has always been jealous of Messi, and he has been more outspoken about it too. Messi though, has been generally less outspoken, perhaps it’s because he truly see himself as best ever, and doesn’t see anyone as a threat. But if you ask me, I think it’s more to do with his laid back personality. He hate losing to Ronaldo too, and I think 5-5 has really pushed him to working towards his 7-5, even though he has been abit lucky winning this time.
Ofcourse Messi hates losing. As does Ronaldo. The fact that Messi reached 7 and ended Ronaldo's dream just effectuated a full blown meltdown, which sheds light on how much it is hurting Ronaldo, for example.

And that version never even came close to Messi's 91 goals.

Well it’s ok to form an opinion, not let’s not pretend this as a fact. We are talking about all time top goalscorer in all fronts (career, CL, international, major tournaments etc), who has just reached his 800 goal milestone. Perhaps its not the best time for you to do it here.

And I know where you want to go from that, but let’s not go on another few pages of arguments on that now. Maybe another time.

It's almost like it's a team game. It's incredible. I can remember when we replaced Ronaldo and Tevez with Michael Owen and Antonio Valencia. And we replaced Ferdinand and Vidic with Phil Jones and Smalling. Sure we won stuf won Fergie was here, but the moment he left it's been downhill for almost a decade now.
And the quality of the trophies Ronaldo won went down when he lost Modric, Kroos and Casemiro as his midfield. All the way down to 9th place (currently 7th) in the Premier League (with a team that finished second the season before) despite a whole bunch of new signings.

PSG also finished second last season and bought a whole new load of players. They’re currently 12 points clear at the top of Ligue Un.
Exactly. Its a team game.

And no matter how shit the players turned at Barcelona- they have a team that controls possesion like no other team in this world except Man City.

The stats for Koeman is absolutely nuts, such an average manager - controlling the match possession like he is a fat student of Guardiola when it was actually the other way around.

Barcelona is like a cradle everything is done in a certain way and a certain style and a certain tempo - you put a very good legendary capable player playing off on top of that - the stats and performances are going to be nuts. This is why people were scared of Ronaldo to City.

Soon as Messi literally comes out of that people are starting to make excuses for him that no one was making just 91.5 days ago.

Answer this one question for me :
Name me a time Messi played under a manager that would scrap all the possesion that Barcelona would keep to simply park the bus as a team tactic throughout even a couple of matches a month?

Barcelona is simply Pass, Jog, Pass, Jog, Pass, Reposition, Pass, Jog, Pass, player looks at his phone to ask what's for dinner and the wife says a takeaway, so they decide to pass & Jog a little bit further and finally get the ball to Messi before he scores.

Surprise surprise.. Different in a different team.

If you cant see that then that's your understanding of football. Bloody Ronaldo is doing it for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer where people are complaining about the low standards of everything and people think Messi would be bossing it playing with Fred and Mctominay

Every goal would need him to score one like the one VS Getafe but also this time a PL version of Getafe is probably Leicester City competing for league titles too.

Messi isn't the best ever because he doesn't take shots at anyone. I think the fact that most prolific players, pundits and managers who didn't manage Ronaldo or play with him, tend to call Messi the best in the world and often the greatest ever means he feels confident in his own stature. And of course knowing what he's done on the pitch. Messi is a freak in terms of talent though, but he doesn't have the genetics of Ronaldo, so it might well be that Messi will legimately be finished soon(I thought he was finished in the beginning of last season), possibly at 35, while Ronaldo might keep scoring in Europe untill he's 40. The recency bias might sway the experts opinon.
The fact that he doesn’t take shots at Pele, Maradona or Ronaldo suggests that he is secure in himself as the best. I don’t think it is anything to do with what other managers and players say. After all, Pele, Maradona and Ronaldo have had smoke blown up their arses by players and managers for years, it clearly hasn’t stopped them being insecure.

I just think he has different personality. He feels people can make their own opinion of him and says he cant match maradonna though thats hatdly true.

Imagine saying Ronaldo is scientist (!!!) and Messi an artist :lol::lol: this thread is pure jewells
Reading this thread genuinely takes me back to my days on the playground debating who was better between The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

It was Austin btw.

@Gehrman @NasirTimothy

Come on guy's answer my question.

Pretty please?
Barcelona dont park the bus but maybe. in some matches they should have.

In the Ronaldo performance thread you've been arguing that Ronaldo has been making us worse

And Messi is clearly on the decline. He said he expected the 2019 golden ball one to be his last. His psg start has been underwhelming. We'll see whether he picks up or not

And exactly. No matter the manager, they are always playing slight variations of tiki taka possesion football; having most of the ball and playing at their own will.

Messi in that is just a cheat that keeps winning a video game.

Messi outside of that is at a slightly more "sustainable" level.

Your pro-Ronaldo storytelling is getting out of hand. There's absolutely NO guarantee that Ronaldo would thrive in a team like that and i'm not even sure he would be a starter at City. You're playing fantasy football in your own head by your own rule without realizing it's not the real world. Possession is useless when not used properly, Barcelona has shown that for years now (and we had a very good example at PSG with Laurent Blanc).

Ronaldo never played in a team as dominant as that Barcelona that basically controlled 90% of the game in every match. We've seen Messi in a normal team in last year's Barcelona and this year's PSG - impressive, but nothing really out of the ordinary.

It isn't an opinion, though. It's a fact, because it came from Ronaldo's own mouth. His biggest goal was the Balón D'or race. And Messi crushed him.

Ok now you are acting abit like a loose cannon here with these irrelevant mumblings..
The irony is a bit staggering. I realize that you have no rebuttal for the facts, but I'd advise you to not be as emotional about Messi's record win as Ronaldo seems to be.

They wouldn't be as dominant with Ronaldo because Ronaldo is nowhere near the player Messi is.

Go watch the 2018-2019 season. Just look at the stats if that's too much for you

Oh right Lewandowski didn't play for Pep.

Must have visioned someone else because Bayern's false 9 was no where to be seen.

Also if you think the possesion that Laurent Blanc's PSG team is the same as the possesion style and way Barcelona mess around with - again that's just a useless conversation.

Want proof? PSG in their last game had 71% possesion vs Nice  Still it ended 0 - 0

A complete different way. Acting like Pochettino's TikiTaka coaching isn't working.

The football that Barcelona play is completely different and controlled with a style that's still being coached by their coaches long after Pep has gone. No one is saying its as good but they aren't exactly parking the bus and playing counter attacking football is it?

Literally can play football with a cigar in your mouth. Messi playing with Fred, McTominay or Herrera and Gueye would be a completely different ball game.

It’s not to do with personality. Maradona, Pele and Ronaldo all have different personalities. Ronaldo is a preening, driven worker who puts in the ‘50,000 hours’. Maradona was a fabulous but flawed talent with the anger of the slums and the heart of an anti-imperial socialist. Also with many demons of course. Pele is a clean living diplomat and humanitarian, a ‘friend’ to everybody. The thing that unites them is being insecure about Messi. It’s quite sad to see really, and beneath all of them.

What Barcelona are you talking about? 2010? 2015? 2020? Because those teams are very different and tika-taka stopped years ago, "possession" isn't a tactic.

Dunno if you watched the game vs nice, but mbappe missed a sitter put on a plate by Messi. Barca have a philosophy but styles are still quite different under the managers. Thats why pep was a revolution at barca. Their football under enrique was much faster paced.

Could Messi play a targetman for Stoke. No because he's a midget.

Im not really sure why psg dominating possesion against nice is a thing. Bigger sides should dominate possesion.

Luckily for Ronaldo he has stellar longevity otherwise Messi would catch him in total goals.
Well it’s not lucky is it,

I actually thought their moves this Summer would feck it for Ronaldo as I expected a ridiculous amount of stat padding from Messi in a side that will rack up around a 100 points.
Bizarre how it’s turning out so far.

Its all subjective i just think because recency bias Messi has usurped Pele's mantle.

Messi has been underwhelming for psg. But if ronaldo retired at 37 like normal footballers Messi would catch him. Im not even sure Messi can walk on the pitch at 37.

It’s getting tiring you have to persist on this line of thoughts all along. You are just dodging and wumming on the same irrelevant stuffs over and over again. It’s childish way to act really, even in this toxic thread, and it’s getting to a point where you making a fool out of yourself here.
