The number of players already linked with him we don't speak of by the media is laughable. I think i've read over 15 names today alone.

It is all a bit silly, but then again some of our impatience surely comes from the way the news was "leaked" which made it seem like the deal was already done before we had even officially let LvG go.

Yeah well, it is not that easy in RL stuff.

Also, both parties want each other. They can take as much as time to make sure both sides are pleased with the terms and whatever. I am sure club has to say a lot to him about all the behaving stuff, youth policy and shit while Jose has his own to say.

Let them sort out and take their time.
It always takes for ever with United

You don't see that with other clubs, can't imagine they don't have details like that to iron out in their dealings. It is also the same with transfers.

Idk maybay it just feels that way because this has been in the media for such a long time, we have been fed like stories about this happening daily for months now. At other clubs this is kept quite more, also less interest from the media ofcourse and then when it happens it is more of a surprise. If Bayern takes also so long to iron out their deals they sure as hell can keep them alot better under the radar then we do.

If you say so...
You don't believe me? I have the example of Bob Lamonte who represents GMs, Head coaches, coaches and coordinators, in theory it's the same type of conflict of interest.

But most importantly why do you ask that for Mourinho and not for the other managers or maybe you think that all the managers should ditch their agents?

The media is making the issue bigger than what it is. These are just details that will be ironed out. For now Ed must be quite happy United is getting all this attention in the media.

I think it's clear by now that there was no actual deal in place at all, at best a gentlemen agreement, which imo was the decent thing to do.

Can't think why that came out. Put us in a rather tricky position, where we had no choice but to announce our current manager was sacked, leaving us pretty much having to agree to whatever contract demands the guy we're trying to agree terms with makes...

Some of it comes from the fact that United rumors generate more clicks than other clubs it seems, so while other clubs might sneak under the radar with signings it only seems quick because 1) We have not been paying attention to rumors involving those other clubs 2) There were no rumors despite the actual negotiations going on for months.

I forget the player City signed a few summers back but it caused a massive meltdown over how quick it all seemed to come together, that is until the player was interviewed and said negotiations had started 4 months prior.

Why the panic? It will be sorted in a day or two.
Why are football fans generally so impatient?
No panic at all

He will be the manager that is 100% certain, it is only a matter of time

It is just how long this drags out, the media have been at Jose's lips for weeks now, we know jose is going to be the one, everyone and their dog knows it, LVG has been firred 3 days ago and still they are not there yet, that is becoming a bit silly. Not to mention now this naming rights thing just feels like it comes straight out of a parody, a firred manager can't sign for a new club because his old club that firred him 6 months ago still has the rights to commercialise bobbleheads with his face on it...

People panicking at this are stupid, united will find a way around it or pay chelsea some money. They wont let this deal be jepordized by some image right problem.
At worst we will Pay amount close to 500kto 1 million to chelsea. Such amount is peanuts for us. We can either make him but his image rights from chelsea or buy them off for him. These are nothing ourlegal team cant resolve

Depends on who really leaked it. Some say it was someone in the club, others claim it was someone connected to Jose/Mendes.

No matter who was involved though, both parties would have known contact was being made so they both would have known LvG was being fired, so not sure it changes the negotiating power of either side.

United still has to find a manager to replace LvG, and Jose needs a club to sign for. What other options do we have that can be decided in the next few weeks? What other options, other than not managing does Jose really have right now?

Nah, there'd have been a pre-contract of some sorts. The legal stuff they're sorting out now is just par for the course in agreeing the contract itself. It'll happen all the time but there's just 1000% more scrutiny on it now because it's us and Jose.

Does make me wonder though, in whether Mendes' legal bods slipped up in not ensuring some sort of clause was inserted into his Chelski contract. Surely a termination of the contract should've meant they forfeited all ownership of trademarks related to Mourinho!?!

The impatience, hell, even panic, is hilarious

We have nearly 3 months til the season starts, and for half of that time there's not a whole lot we can do once he's appointed anyway thanks to the euros.

Appointing a manager is going to take just a few days and might just be a little complex because of the profile of both parties and the red tape that comes with it - but similarly, you're probably hearing about specifics you might not hear about with other clubs' appointments. LVG's chair has been cold for two days. It's going to be fine :lol:

This will be announced tomorrow I think.

Then we will learn in a month or two that we chucked a few million at Chelsea to remove the copyright.

Certainly feels like it,

How utterly bizarre is that Chelsea still have those rights, I mean it makes sense they had them when he was the manager, it makes sense they would have them as part of negotiating a high compensation fee if he ever wanted to move to another club whilst still under contract. But you'd think the moment he was firred, he would have been free of such things and would play absolutley no part in negotiations with his future club.

My assumption is it was Mendes because I do think he and his client are the only ones to gain. It's not about those negotiating knowing but the fact we've effectively (through our inability to deny it) had to announce him publicly as our new manager before we've agreed terms.

Not that I really mind. Mendes being a clever, devious sort is to be expected when dealing with him. It's why he is the head of his field.

More fool him. He should've had it written into his contract that if sacked, all rights would be revoked.

Personally I think he should just embrace JoMo, or even Maureen, and get down the solicitors to have it all changed legally, then we're good to go.

Impatience?! It's been 3 days since LVG got sacked. 3 days! Do you know what 3 days can do?

IDK if this has been posted yet ?

But the guardian had an article about chelsea owning jose mourinho branding in 2010

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2010/apr/13/jose-mourinho-trademark-chelsea

The Norwegian newspaper ABC Nyheter found that Chelsea have only six international trademarks registered with Wipo. Two of them are under "Chelsea Football Club", one under "CFC" and a fourth under "Chelsea". The other two relate to the club's sole title-winning manager of the past 50 years.

Both the Mourinho trademarks remain protected by Chelsea for a 10-year period, meaning that if, say, Manchester City were to secure Mourinho's signature this summer, the contract would technically be in breach of copyright. And although Chelsea terminated their image-rights agreement with Mourinho when he left the club in September 2007, perhaps their owner, Roman Abramovich, may draw solace from the knowledge that Mourinho could legally be restricted from exploiting his own name in any of the 200-odd products listed.

Also the article says Chelsea had deleted 1 item from the list in 2006 which are mourinho figurines from precious metal, so no mourinho shaped oscars or academy awards

I retract my previous comment about this sort of stuff happening all the time in other deals. This is outright bonkers from the Chelsea commercial department, I wonder which of items on the 200 item list our commercial department wants to buy the rights for

Some of you guys might know better than me, but when Cantona retired didn't he have some small dispute with United and they rather quickly had to stop selling products with his name on?

I'm surprised if ™ hadn't sorted this out a while ago.

Coincidentally there was a report only a few days ago about him recently settling a Spanish tax dispute about image rights while he was at Real Madrid.
