Absolutely baffled this guy got man of the match?! He is so slow and lethargic on the ball it’s a joke. He’s finished and is a massive liability in the team. I used to be a big fan of his but wow he is so slow.

Don't agree with the motm award at all.
He was still the biggest culprit when it comes to unnecessary backwards passing, and the trend spreads especially among the defence.

I don't get it because he's actually very good at turning his man and creating space for a pass but he's constantly checking back and making a safe pass

Frustrating
He is good at that, the problem is that he wants to do it every time he's got the ball. More often than not he just stands on the ball so that the opposition player can come close and he then uses his big body to shield the ball and eventually turn the guy he has on his back. But because he plays at a snails pace and just jogs away that guy can usually come back and challenge again, often with another player helping him that time around and it frustrates the hell out of me.
There's no tempo or urgency to what he does and as you say he goes for the safe pass every time. I was so happy that we got him after his debut where he absolutely bossed it, but that Matic seems to have vanished from the face of the earth.

There was not a player on the pitch that had a great game. Both teams lack quality. Both very poor teams.
Herrera says hi

Playing the same position as matic, he had 5 tackles, 6 interceptions and 3 created chances which were all the highest of any player on the pitch.. how did matic play better?

He did nothing of note once again. Only positive being he wasn't fully shit like usual.

Very surprised Arsenal didn’t stick Ramsey or Torreira directly on him to press when he has the ball.

Takes too long to move it.

This player gets far too much stick on here imo. Deserves a lot more credit and is an important player for us.
No one in this team is important more than others by much except de Gea. No one showed anything close good enough to show that he is important player for us, especially Matic who offers zero protection to our defence, which is by far our biggest problem this year.

We have some good quality players, unfortunately our manager is clueless. Some of them can't even get on the bench, while he persists with mediocrity.
On paper - we have quality players, and we have paid a lot of money for some players.

But I look at the team last night and I think only Martial, Rashford and DDG (unfortunate mistake yesterday) would compete for a place in one of our title winning teams, and not just as a squad player as clearly anyone can quote the likes of Anderson, Greening and Chadwick who won the PL. Our big money players are not making a difference, and are not winning us games - Pogba, Sanchez and Lukuku have had so many chances and failed.

We have quality, it is up to the manager to get the best out of our players. We have won leagues with some terrible players before. If it was only a few players, then that could be chalked off as players not being that good. The problem is every player we buy gets worse than they were at their previous club. This is happening consistently, and that points to our manager.
It should be better than 8th and a negative GD at least.

I can only summise he's there because he won't lose the ball he'll always go safe. None of the others are trusted not to lose the ball.

We really should be expecting more than safe. I'd argue his lack of protection at other times nullifies any such benefit in playing him anyway

I think he plays more than he should because our defence is not trusted and his provide some protection. For me the biggest concern is his lack of pace and urgency higher up the pitch. I’ve been really surprised and annoyed he plays every single game. But us leaking goals every single freaking game has a large part in his continual inclusion in the team.

Easily his best game so far this season. Still not great, but it was better.
Which is probably the bit that is hard to take. His best game of the season imo isnt good enough for where we wanna be. And I dont think he will get any better in terms of performances for us.

He didn’t suck yesterday, still times he was a bit ponderous but he just looked far more mobile and at times adventurous with his passing but still turned away from far to many opportunities to take a risk and instead played a safe backwards pass.
There were lots of little runs made by Rashford, Lingard and Martial and these guys just never get the service.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

He has actually been a little better for the last three or four games. Then quite a lot better this game. Maybe his form is starting to turn around and he'll continue improving back to a decent level.

People really harsh on Matic. I think he played to the level one should expect of him yesterday.
I thought he did very well in second half and covered a lot of ground and helped the defence well when needed. First half was not so good, way to slow on the ball.
He was definitely not MOTM though...Bailly for me...

How are people rating that performance as a good one? He stank up the midfield and slowed the game down. It was mediocre but not as shit as usual.

But he does lose the ball. He'll repeatedly drop in beside the centreback in order to collect it and he has no interest in receiving it in tight areas. We repeatedly play the ball back to the keeper because our centrebacks can't pass and our defensive midfielder has no interest in linking the defense with the midfield and attack. When he does receive the ball he doesn't do anything proactive with it, which makes us so easy to press.

It is Mcmanaman who planted this thought into their heads by choosing him MOTM.

What did you expect? Yesterday everyone praising him, today everyone saying how he is worst player they have ever seen, I stopped taking comments on here serious long time ago, place should be renamed to KneeJerkCafe.

Had his best game for a while yesterday. Still laughed when Macca gave him MOTM though.

And it took what, 15-20 games to get him there

No other player would have been given that long of a rope to play themselves back into form, especially in a position where we have loads of alternatives who hardly get game time

I can clearly see him improving these last few games but I can't be happy for him knowing others haven't been given a fair crack at winning his position

I know he doesn't pick himself and that is on the wank manager we have but I'm still somewhat bitter towards him and what he represents (favoritism)

I’ve been fairly vocal about how poor he has been since last year but thought he was pretty good the other day. Not sure about MOTM good but it was a massive improvement from his recent displays.

His previous games have been so pathetic that he gets the MOTM for not escorting the opposing players to our goal. He should be replaced and I think Lindelof would be a better defensive midfield player than Matic now.

He's in the gameday squad AGAIN for the fulham game. Give this guy a rest FFS. Let's just see what happens with Herrera/Fred/Pogba.

A two time La Liga and two time CL winning midfielder says he had a pretty good game but of course the Caf experts who miss half of the game from posting shite in the match thread know better. Literally anything could happen in a game and people here will still just post the same shit.

Another 90 minutes, he did alright and even had some good moments! He did quite a few backheels too

I do wonder why he is never getting subbed.. Fulham is terrible, this would have been a great moment to have him not play 90 minutes for once.

Fulham or not, back 4 has no protection with him in first XI, today he wasnt exposed as much but would say thats more on Fulham approach then on us.

Ander is basically doing all of his running for him like Kante did at Chelsea and he's trying to be the playmaker now.

Two top performance in a row without Pogba. Goes to show when he is not surrounded by a lazy primadonna he can be very effective.
