True. It’s just they could have easily earned similar amounts of money and done similar amounts of coke working in the private sector.

I’m not convinced they could, the profile it earns them and the connections and influence they built globally is lucrative. Johnson has earned nearly £5m from the speaking circuit alone since leaving office 18 months ago. Previous to being PM he was apparently in debt. Then you have all the kick backs outside of the official fees.

No surprise. I started saving for the first time in my life last year at the age of 43. Still probably a better idea to overpay the mortgage instead, but having been made redundant in the last few years, I need a safety net. So far I've saved about enough to keep me going for a month. So still screwed, potentially!
No they would not. Johnson would not be hired by any relevant position in the private sector even with his background. At best middle management. Being a politician opens you the doors through favours given during their tenure. They put them in a high paid position as *insert whatever name* doing jack all besides meeting other people based on the influence that they still have in the party.

He started as a writer for The Telegraph and then went on to become the editor of The Spectator. There’s plenty of well paying and useless jobs in the private sector.
Doubt that he did more than 80k-100k a year that would keep doing for the rest of his life. Sure is a great salary but just to have a comfortable normal life and nothing compared with the amounts that he is making. The choice being a writter of politics is easy. Specially he probably worked more before than now

My wife and I had savings before 2023 and they don't exist now. Just massive credit card bills to get us through the cost of living crisis.

I'd love to have had it as 'bad' as she did. Would happily swap all the wonderful perks I'm enjoying now for the house prices, cost of living and job security she had in her day.

Infosys is an $80 billion global conglomerate. Its hardly surprising to see them on a government supplier list.
There are plenty of examples of corruption but imo this isn't one of them.
they’re also not the only company in the world to
offer their kinds of services. as with any potential conflict of interest, it’s easier to just to walk away from it and choose someone else. of course they won’t though, because money.
There were some pretty horrible sights when mini-skirts came out. You didn't see hundreds of incredibly fit girls out running the same either.
But don't you think such conflicts of interest should be actively avoided regardless of how the deals came about? Do you believe Infosys are the only company who could have delivered the contracts they got?
