I agree.

I'm not sure what coverage you all have in England/India etc, but they showed a graphic 10 mins ago which showed the steep increase in WC strike-rates and the amount if centuries in WC's since 1992.

In 1992 the strike-rate was 67 or something and there were 8 centuries throughout the whole tournament. In this WC the s/r is 88ish and there have been 38 centuries so far.

I'm only 28, but call me old fashioned - I loved the days of one day cricket when 240 was an insane score and 210/220 was considered a very defendable total.
I agree with ya. First semi final aside, Pakistan vs South Africa in Auckland was a ripper of a game with Pakistan successfully defending 232.

I remember when getting 320 was an insane total.

Ponting and Symonds got that vs Sir lanka in 2006 and that was mental batting at the time.

Similar was India's 315 vs Pakistan in final of some trophy. It was an exceptional performance that time. Ganguly had scored hundred, Sachin had scored quickfire runs and Kanitkar had finished with a 4.

Few years further back, late 90s I think, India had put 225-230 in first innings, again in some final vs South Africa and I was very confident of Kumble & co. finishing the job and they did.

Crazy score back then. If you touched 300 it was mental and immediately game over.

Then the game at the Wanderers (I think it was there) happened against SA. I remember watching it with 5 saffer mates and 3 other neutrals (Indians going for SA)...

When we posted 430 or whatever it was I was giving it large. I thought the game was done but decided to hang around for the first few overs of SA's innings to see if they started well... When they were 1-10ish after 3 or 4 I decided the game was done and to go home to sleep.... Safe to say a few hours later I was woken up by numerous texts and calls

One of my best cricketing memories growing up. Incredible finish. 3 off 2 required and kanitkar slog steeped to mid wicket for a boundary if I'm not mistaken.

Yup. Correct :) That whole last over I remember clearly. Srinath had got few 'valuable' 4-5 runs too :D

That match, Kumble's 10, Kolkata test are more cherished memories than 2011 final for me. Those games are in 'where were you when..' category

Thankfully Clarke will make the headlines, he's the most tolerable of that team.

I remember that match too. The umpires wanted to stop the game because of bad light but the batsmen refused to leave. Ganguly was great in that match iirc..

Ahh that's the world cup Shane Warne got himself banned for taking a masking drug... Then argued his mum told him to take it. You have to laugh.
A diaretic apparently. That whole thing was a very strange and laughable affair.

He is not very bright outside cricket and leg spin knowledge so you never know. Few days back there was a stat that when some player scores 50+ his team wins 80% of matches. Warne deduced from it that if you get him out for less than 50, his team loses 80% of matches.

Disappointing final. Overall a good tournament but poor conclusion.

Well, this was a bit shit wasn't it.

Well hosted, NZ and Aus, but not too memorable a WC apart from NZ's heroics at random stages.

Yeah a good tournament overall though the format was shit. As has been said a few times already, the best teams didn't play each other enough. Glad to the see the final being won by the bowling unit of Australia.

Ball's reversing. But congrats Australia. I'm hoping those in charge will change the rules to allow a balance between bat and ball.
