Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

I do think he'll improve us of course. My point about the marketing is the fee involved has to involve some kind of payback, United see him as very very marketable. I'm just not convinced he's going to improve us to the extent that most on here are. It's really really bizarre the reactions on here.

Pogba really isn't all that. He's a young player with a lot to prove.
Posters on here are comparing him to Messi and Ronaldo just because of the fee! It's kind of mad. The abuse I'm getting for questioning his likely impact is astounding. People seem convinced he's going to stroll into the team and transform it, he won't, he'll improve us yes but guys get real. Reign in your expectations.

I agree with the part in bold but the rest I think you went OTT. The expectation will be huge on him because of the fee. He'll take time to adapt to a new team, system and a league. I just hope fans (don't give a feck about opposition fans who will criticize him unfairly from the go) will be patient with him when he probably won't hit top level quickly.

Nowhere. And to say that Pogba "isn't all that", well that's just plain wrong.

Earlier in the thread he's being compared to the 'big two'. Not directly but as a world star who is moving for a record fee. My point is expectations are already out of control. He's not going to transform us, he'll improve us. And in that sense he isn't all that.

The price quoted seems about right. He's a proper superstar footballer, and by superstar I'm talking more than what you get on the pitch. Terrific player that will only improve of course, by you also get image and marketing, someone whose face you can slap on a piece of merchandise along with our crest and people will buy it in droves.

At his age, and the mileage we'll get out of him, we could be saying £100m was a bargain in years to come. He'll be the face of the club, the face of Adidas, we get bigger and better commercial deals just by virtue of this guy being at our club. You may not like it but that's the reality of our club, and modern football as a whole really.

How can people say we are paying double what he is worth? A player is only worth, what a paying club is willing to spend.

Rory 7 instead of talking about other people's reactions to your post (don't think any we're OTT or "abusive" as you tried to say) perhaps you might consider that you've expressed the same viewpoint ("I don't want Pogba") constantly throughout this thread but used bizarre, weak and shifting logic to back it up. Perhaps you're actually wrong and maybe 1, Pogba will improve us a great deal, 2, He will be immensely marketable for the club and 3, he will cost the same to us relatively as the likes of Veron and Rio. Finally Jose clearly sees him as the right man.

Can you not see now why "seems he's being signed for marketing reasons rather than football" deserves to be called out as nonsense?

Last suggestion Rory dear chap, try to reply to this without saying something like "omg look at the reaction to my innocent little post, chill out guys" ;)

165 posts of pretty much repeating the same things he has. Rory, you're just talking shit mate.

No one has compared him directly to Messi and Ronaldo in terms of current skill or worth. PPOR

this is what marriage feels like after you blow that first wad...eh.

What a really really bizarre reaction. I'm astounded by this post. It blows my mind.

I've already said that (the highlighted part) but I don't agree he will improve us immensely. And as soon as I suggest this i get a barrage of replies claiming I'm talking nonsense or calling me a melt. I'm just amazed how confident you all are in this guys ability to transform us.

he won't transform us. but we are getting a world class player in a position we've desperately lacked for over 5 years.

You will find you're utterly unable to find any post indicating my blind faith in Pogba. That's all in your mind. You're confusing positivity with blind faith.

You will find you over react ANY time a poster questions his likely impact. Like for example any time I've tried to reign in expectations.

Went to an adidas store today. This lad's face was plastered all over in the football section, even more than Messi.

Feel the same way. We are paying double to what he is actually worth.

We have to. Thanks to Moyes and then Van Gaal, our stock is much lower than it was under Sir Alex. We simply can't offer £50m and lesser wages because Real Madrid or Bayern will swan in and pay £60m and bag him.

We have to pay over the odds to lure a player who has CL football guaranteed and an extremely likely chance of winning the league again where he is.

Some people really don't seem to understand this.

Indeed. It's far easier to build from a position of strength than where we are now.

We need to get back to that position and signings like this one (assuming it completes), and other we've made this summer, will help.

Finally, glad to hear the other side of it as well.

If Pogba doesn't do the tricks, is unable to be more influential in the big games, then there will be a massive outcry since the fee is a world record. Each and every step of his will be analyzed.

Plus imagine the situation where Jose benches him, how there will be a massive backlash in the media, between the fans of United itself, the dressing room etc.

This deal in my opinion brings in more risks than good investment. God forbid if Pogba suffers an injury, then all the excuses will start flowing out about how we would have challenged for trophies if he was still available.

i will be honest, i think he is a very good player but with the amount of money being spent, next season cannot be trophy less and there has to be a title ideally.

I don't understand the hate - he's been a wonderful player for us

Probably due ot the talk of leaving years ago. Rooney is a strange one for me as he has been one of our best players yeqar in year out and will probably break lots of records but he never became the player he should have when we signed him. I hear him saying he is a better player now, he may be a more intelligent and experienced one but nowhere near the talent he was let alone should have become. Not just the burst of pace, his touch, shooting, so many things have gone backwards substantially.

For me Rooney should have been up there with Messi and Ronaldo.....he is no where near that level, that is what saddens me with him, even though he has still been a very very good player for us.

Yeah but your shit is annoying shit.

Because my shit doesn't conform to the group think going on here, the herd mentality of all the guys talking about getting their cocks out and jizzing themselves over Paul Pogba? Yeah. You're right. My views on this transfer are very annoying for folks like that.

Again, pure nonsense. I have done no such thing, not even a single time, let alone any time.

What do you call these types of reactions then?

We're buying one of the best young midfielders in the world from a huge club with a rich tradition that doesn't want to sell him since he's their star man. 100M is not exaggerated at all for such a player in 2016. That's the state of the modern transfer market. Keep up.

What a really really bizarre reaction. I'm astounded by this post. It blows my mind.

I call it taking the piss and over-reacting to me simply putting forward an alternative view to the Pogba transfer. Its an alternative view. Not once have I belittled posters that are championing this transfer, not once. But your reaction to my alternative view is to over-react and pull the piss. Maybe the points I am raising are striking a few nerves. Maybe they aren't. Either way I don't give a toss anymore. This is a done deal. I hope he delivers for us in the way most posters on this thread are saying he will. Clearly I don't think he will.

Leave Rory alone!

Honestly though Rory he's a huge signing for us. Whether or not he (currently) has the world class quality needed to 'transform' us is different but the fact of the matter is he's exactly the type of midfielder we really do need.

Overpriced perhaps, that's another debate.

But he will work out, if he doesn't we're fecked.

We're buying the best, there's no shame in that.
