Great game by the big fella. Did anybody else notice that he significantly cut down on the fouls and elbows?

Constantly at the STD clinic.
Barring a few, it seems like many on this forum are getting convinced that he isn't at least totally useless after all. I hope this trend continues and he plays an integral part because it would be a quite heroic story of how he fought on. His first two seasons here we gave him a lot of shit. He never threw a tantrum (only elbows. jk..) and kept giving 100% on the pitch. I am just glad to see him finally winning hearts. Now he needs to win a PL for us!

Very good. He might play more this season than most envisioned.

Lemmy has forsaken us....
Big, physical, hardworking mid who'll follow orders to the tee and won't complain if he's in and out of the 11. Suits Mourinho incredibly well, tbh, looks like he's going to get the best out of him too.

Add the passion, and the fact he wants to be here and fight for his place.

Very good. Liked his defensive game. Always a threat on set pieces. I think he will be an important player.

Very good game. Not quite my MOTM but definitely top three (maybe top two). Not surprised because I know he has this in him. Mourinho clearly wants him to be more disciplined, unlike van Gaal who wanted him to constantly push forward and join in the attack.

Great defensive work today.

Also looked decisive and confident on the ball, had 98.7% pass completion!

Van Gaal basically played him like Moyes(at Everton) did, a mobile, deep target man. It worked well for a while, until teams started marking him out of the game, coincidentally started by Mourinho putting Zouma as a mid on him.

Was superb today. We need his nasty side so if he can actually show some footballing ability then he will be a good assett to the squad.

Not what I want from a Man United holding player but he covered his spaces well enough.
yeah, I can imagine better candidates for that role but he was very good today alongside Herrera who himself had a good game, Interesting to see who Mourinho drops for Pogba. It's too obvious it will be Fellaini as he is also a big guy etc. but wouldn't be surprised if we saw a midfield of both beastie boys Pogba and Fellaini.

Actually quietly had a brilliant game. One of his best all-around United performances.

Not as dreadful as usual today.

I am still not sure what him being in the team in that role does for the team though. On form I would take Pogba, Herrera, Carrick and Schniderlin at cm over an in form Felliani. In a more advanced role it would be a different story.

He was a lot better than usual today, but I still don't think that had much of an impact over any other cm.

I like fellaini when he's sharp, in terms of running. Sometimes he feels like he partied last night and is everywhere the second quickest, It didn't feel like that today and won quite a lot of tackles and his physical presence was important I think..

The hate for our club will be back very soon as we have so many potentially redcarders out there.. With Zlatan and Bailly both being aggressive as feck. Love it

I'm not even convinced some of the fouls where he was penalised were fouls either. He looked so much sharper and less laboured than normal. I'm not sure JM was expecting that so an interesting conundrum once Pogba is available.

Mourinho thought he was excellent, just seen his interview on Mutv, said our fans will have to learn to love him if he keeps playing like this. Enjoy mate.

IT will probably be Pogba + Fellani.
I'd like to see us move to a 4-3-3 but yeah, can see this happening. Mourinho likes his physical players and if Fellaini can continue to play his defensive role well like he did today, Pogba will have plenty of license to provide an attacking threat.

The idea of keeping Schneiderlin on the bench to play Fellaini as a defensive midfield utterly blows my mind.

What an earth has Schneiderlin done for us to have you come to this conclusion?

Schneiderlin has been crap more often than not. Fellaini is the better player.

I remain sceptical as to whether Fellaini will be able to keep this up on a consistent basis, but if he can continue playing like he did today then he's perfectly justified in having a place in the team - he made a solid contribution defensively, kept to his position reasonably well and was able to utilise his physicality without looking like he was about to get booked.

Schneiderlin will no doubt still fixture but he's got a lot to prove after being so anonymous for much of last season.
