Hes been terrible in my opinion.

There. I said it. Navas had him beat every single time and Lens was getting loads of change out of him and it was crushing to see.

It would appear he has lost alot of the natural zip in his play he used to have. he used to be so explosive and strong with his runs now he seems to hang back and doesnt make those driving runs anymore waiting for the winger to do everything for him.

I really hope he comes good but im very skeptical hell ever fully recover and mentally that is a pathetuc thing to do and say to Jose "im not ready" that is seriously huge. maybe you do that sort of thing at Southampton or Sunderland where some players are expected to be dissolusioned but here at United its goes against the core fundamentals of the club.

Sir Bobby probably bust a vein when he heard the news Imagine the friends he lost in Munich who would love to have played just one more game and you have to listen to modern players with this garbage.

Football is a crazy game, I was certain Shaw and Martial would tear it up down the left for us this season, I cant believe neither are regulars.

if he's slightly injured than it's perfectly okay for me from a player to say he's not ready. He's young and he doesn't want to miss many more games because he will show he's a tough guy for Mourinho. He's 21 and it will be bullshit to risk him to play at this stage of his career when he can sit out and come back for the next game

but if he's not mentally ready than it's a bit sad to hear even though players can actually show some guts saying this for me too.. so it's a bit of overreaction from mourinho, not sure about other players he didn't mention

I agree in respect to Shaw. This is a kid who had as traumatic of an injury as a footballer can have. He spent all year rehabbing, if he says he's not right then so be it.

Let him come round on his own time.

I reckon Mourinho expected the same. He'll be hoping they respond to any criticism in the right way.

Jose lost the dressing last year at Chelsea, I don't see how this continuous public criticism of his players is going to help one bit. Sometimes, you've got to wonder what is in his head

I think he is trying to weed out the mentally weak players. They will either toughen up or put in a transfer request.

Didn't Paul Scholes refuse to play in a LC game because he was sulking?
Yes and Fergie went wild at him for it. Scholes has since said he was lucky not to get kicked out the club.

I really hope this is a kick up the backside from Mourinho and he knows Shaw will react, because otherwise we don't want players who step down the morning of a game because they don't feel like it. He's not that good.

Can't remember ever hearing about it until after Scholes retired.

Manchester City.
Football fans are fickle as hell and this thread epitomizes it well. From praising his performances early in the season vs Southampton and Hull to the general consensus now wondering if he will ever recover from his leg break due to poor form. Did it not occur to people his dip in form coincided with the criticism he recieved after the Watford game? He obviously hasnt reacted well to that and has seemed unsure of himself ever since this was highlighted when he let Navas the most old dimebsional player torch him the over week.

The boys in bad form but im stunned by some posts here. Just checked his contract runs out in 2018. Wouldnt surprise me if Us, Arsenal and Barca go for him. All neeed left backs and hes one of the most talented in world football.

I completely get that he had a bad injury and it might take some time to get over but let's call it like it is, footballers pick up these sort of injuries all the time, it's not something rare, it's something you should almost expect to happen at some point in your career,
We've had plenty down the years who have had horrific injuries and their return to the first team hasn't created as much talk and sympathy seeking as this one has. There are some players as well who continually pick up long term injuries and go through their careers barely playing any games. Luke is young, he's not injury prone despite a few fitness issues, he needs to get himself into a right state where he can perform to the level he was at the start of last season, hell even the first few games of this season.
It also seems to me that since he was criticised by Mourinho after the Watford game that was what triggered a dip in performance, which doesn't quite fit in with the injury issue, and that tells me he's been overly sensitive to the criticism. Pulling out of today's game if true is unacceptable really and shows a huge lack of character, needs to get it together because he's a top talent.

Barca have two good left backs, Alba and Digne.

Players have way too much power at clubs these days. Totally spoiled rotten, and have no respect for their managers authority. But this is all the problem with the disgusting wages in world football. So unless wages are capped, I think it`ll get worse

You got Liverpool, and Chelsea playing good stuff, but I doubt any of their players are on wages ours are, especially Pool

C'mon guys, lets not take random social media comments seriously. Every player/manager gets abuse on Twitter/Facebook, particularly when things aren't going well. Any famous person on Twitter should be used to it by now.

Hope we stick by him. He's going to become an amazing player.

I also don't see anything wrong with what he said to José. He's only just come back from that horrific injury and has already said he still occasionally feels niggles, so of course its best to be safe rather than sorry if he feels as though it'd be a risk.

unprofessional for shaw to tell the manager that he wasn't ready to play the morning of the game. Unless he had the flu or food poisoning, he should at least told him the day before so he could prepped Blind or Darmian to play the LB position. Players at his level can't just wake up and decide they don't want to play today, this isn't an office job.

Its the same with some on here

Ive never seen a so many turn on a player so fast before

He is also still only 21 years of age
Not sure anyone is turning on him tbh. He's not back to form yet & had been very poor in some outings, let's just tell it as it is.

Amazing potential but a crap first year followed by a devastating injury have really halted him. I'm still hopeful though and I think proper kicks up the backside are a good thing for players.

I guess the world has forgotten he broke his leg and is just coming back from that injury.

How long is he going to be coming back from it though? When does blaming the injury end and poor form is accepted?

Surely club doctors have assessed if his leg is fine and that the 'niggles' and 'pain' he feels is a mental thing.

It's obvious Luke is a sensitive lad, but unfortunately you really need to be tough to play for United. SAF took care of Ronnie, especially after his father died soon after Ronaldo rocked up here. However, Ronaldo wasn't given special treatment on the training pitch by the senior players we had then, and SAF didn't intervene in that aspect. Ronaldo took that on the chin, and worked harder. Our young players need to follow his example.
Some players have emotional difficulties, but to survive and succeed you have to push yourself through this - there's no other option.
I hope this will make him more determined to succeed and shut Jose up.

If you accept its a 'mental thing' then aren't you yourself blaming the injury?

Yes coming back from a horrific injury is a mental thing and it needs to be managed, better it is not managed in the press and is done internally. What do you mean 'how long' its only been a couple of month since his return to action.
Its a ridiculous stance, it was said before the season started it was going to take him some time. He played through injury vs Watford and was thrown under the bus by the manager. Then he feels pain before a game, decides not to play (probably based on what happened after Watford) and is again thrown under the bus. Excellent management that!

why DO YOU KNOW he told him? I guess it's more proffessional to tell your manager you are not ready before the game then screw up on the pitch or get yourself injured because you pretend to be tough enough. if it was because of injury there is no reason to criticise the player he wants to stay fit after horrible 2leg break and one year of football off, he's not Giggs/Scholes at his mid thirties or someone like Rooney/Sweinsteigger who are at the end of their career and can play through their injuries...

If it is because he wasn't ready mentally as I said I much rather see a player who is up to it now and let this palyer sort his stuff than see a player struggling there. The problem in my eyes would be if the problem would be long term, so let's hope Shaw will recover from this whatever it is. I assume it was some minor injury rather than bad mental state of mind otherwise you'd be right to say it was at the very least very weird and unfair to the managr..

Whilst that is true, he could definitely be in better shape than he is.
