Hes there to do a job fine, but he is clearly the week link in the midfield when we have the ball. Does a good job of being disruptive though and has a lot of fight in him which is good

He did fine tonight. We miss him when he doesn't play - See Swansea home game where we couldn't even get the ball back.

I would much more enjoy a fast, slick footballer with great passing skills. But Fellaini did his job supperbly today and is key to us dominating teams completely.

Shouldn't be an option for a club like MUFC.

Actually I reckon we could fleece a mid table PL team for quite a decent fee for him since he would be really good in a certain type of team, like a WBA perhaps.

£20m would buy us a better squad option for midfield somewhere in Europe.

One day my friend, he won't be here. One day!

Anyone who can't see why Mourinho trusts him is a tool. He's far more than a bit part player in the stage we're currently at.

He's the first player I want to see out the door in the summer but can't see it happening. His game time will be severely limited next season when we buy a 3rd midfielder alongside pogba and herrera. He'll be an option on the bench.

I like having him in the squad; he is a good standard for a rotational squad player, has unique capabilities, can perform several roles and totally committed to manager and club.

Absolutely worth having him around, and I wish more fans would give him the support and respect that he deserves,

There is a truth to that. I checked the last 5 games that he started and the last 5 that he didn't:

Strated:
Celta (A): W 1-0
City (A): D 0-0
Burnley (A): W 2-0
Chelsea (H): W 2-0
Sunderland (A): W 3-0

Overall: 4 W, 1 D.
Goal Difference: 8-0. Yes, No goal conceded (despite playing Chelsea, Celta and City)!

Didn't Start:
Swansea (H): D 1-1
Anderlecht (H): W 2-1. Was a 1-1 draw until he made the goal to Rashford. Needed 120 min to win.
Anderlecht (W): D 1-1. Was 1-0 for us until he made a mistake that led to their equalizer
Rostov (H): W 1-0. Was 0-0 when he came on. Mata scored at the 70th minute.
Chelsea (A): L 0-1. Was 0-0 when came on.

Overall: 2 W, 2 D, 1 L. Both wins came after his introduction, one loss after his introduction and one draw because of his mistake.
Goal difference: 5-4.

Now, there is nothing in these numbers to suggest that "he has cost us games". And, to be clear, I'm not saying that better results (and they clearly are) with him are because of him, but thought to share this with you. Corrections are welcomed!

You know what, there's a devil in this kid. One side of the tribe sees a red devil in him, while the other recognizes and curses what they believe is a true demon.

I love this man - just listen to his interviews, a big clumsy giant with a calming voice.

He will stay here past this summer I think and I'd be happy if he did.

That booking was BS tbh. That ref was such a homer. Saying that, after the yellow, he was just too clumsy.
I still think hes better as an impact sub for a plan C or D. Need to improve on him next season for our starting team.

I expect Fabinho will take his place, has similar physique but much better on the ball.

He can still be a good super sub and squad player though, just not first choice.

Decent game from him tonight but nothing changed regarding my opinion on him. Not a bad back-up but you can easily bet a better option for the bench who can do all he does and even more.

While he's on yellow you expect him to get the red anytime.

agreed. he was physical, a bully, made the game sloppy and boring. he was responsible for putting the crowd to sleep and zapping their energy with his shit quality passing and skills. That crowd came for a fiesta, we gave them a siesta. Sometimes you need someone like, we got Carrick rested, an away goal, and the momentum going into the return game.

He is technically sound. If he were a better passer of the ball, and just a bit faster, he would be one of the top midfielders of Europe.

People engineering praise on here is comedy. He was as as conservative as I'd imagined before the game having been told to stay out of trouble no doubt. Instead he stayed out of the game. Eventually got his inevitable booking and became even more of a passenger, shadowing play with no real input as normal.
Almost managed to get himself sent off to boot.

Just brain dead. Anyone that thinks there aren't better midfielders out there - squad player or not - are baffling in their assessment. Would struggle to make the squad in any other top 6 team in PL and would be laughed away from the top teams in Europe.

Yes he tries hard, carries out managers orders etc... but so would I for his wages, and I'm also shit at football. Ice cream and jelly when he leaves, but I fear that may be some time away yet.

Nothing really to say about him last night bar his stupidity which could have seen him sent off.

If I was faster and a better passer of the ball, I'd be a top midfielder in Europe as well.

He played well, although, I prefer him in the deeper role - he works better with Ander/Pogba working the game in front of him. Love the all-round tactical versatility of our midfield at the moment. All three of them can play all three positions with a specialist like Carrick insuring the base.

Relax he wasn't that bad last night stupid fouls aside. Yes some are going overboard with criticism, but you don't need to exaggerate the opposite way to make up for that.

Other than elbowing, chest control and being a constant disaster waiting to happen, he can't do much more tbh. Mourinho's fascination with him is mind-boggling.

I think if you could add a footballing brain to him, he'd be a starter in Jose's team throughout the season. I like the idea of who Fellani should be (breaking opposition's play, a physical presence in the midfield). I'd love him if he would do all this intelligently.

Did OK last night. Yellow card is always happening for him. Luckily, it was just one during that match.

He's thick as shit, always a disaster waiting to happen with him and even last night he could of been sent off again, the very little he brings to the pitch is not worth it especially in these kind of games, I really cant wait until he leaves the club and we replace him with an actual talented footballer,

If people actually see him as a worthy starting 11 player then your expectations have been severely lowered over the last 3 years or so, this guy would not get close to any starting 11 of a "Top" european club.

How a player with zero passing ability is playing in the middle of the park for the biggest club in England or the world speaks volume of our standards.

Yeah all those unnecessary fouls and pulling the opponent when he already had yellow card is just idiotic.
Worst thing for me are the discussions with the ref afterwards. I mean he has whistled already, it is a foul, stop protesting and get back in position or at least try to be surprised (act like a hypocrite).

Yeah, he's exposing himself even more that way to be sent off.

Yeah, he is not my cup of tea either. But he has been an key team player whenever we have put in great performances as a team, such as against Chelsea. He played well last night, and doesn't deserve the 5.5 rating given to him by the CAF.

I thought he was alright, just. And thats ok personally i gave him a 5 which the way i rate is a decent performance. I think you have to bear that in mind, different people rate performances different ways. I've never given anyone a 10 and very rarely even an 8. 5-6 last night was about right for Fellaini.

He made a mistake against City and he had to be more cautious yesterday with his challenges, but he typically does better (on that front) than we saw in these two games. Some people here talk as if he is sent off 5 times a year, which is not the case. In fact, the red card against City was his first this season.

In comparison to other consistent midfielders:
Fellaini: 8 Yellow, 1 Red
Herrera: 14 Yellow, 2 Red
Pogba: 10 Yellow, 0 Red

So again, the perception that he is a red card in the making (while looked true in parts of the game yesterday) is not supported by the data. He may have played less than these two, but he is still not worse when it comes to yellow and red cards when you take into account the amount of time that has played. Against Sunderland, Chelsea, Burnley and Anderlecht he didn't look like a red card that is about to happen. Even against City, he had no yellow cards until late in the game. And so, I think that a little more fairness would be nice.

With respect to rating, 5.5-6 or so sounds about right. In fact, I personally gave him 6.

Yes, I understand different people grade different ways, but the 5.5 was an average, and it was about the same score as Lingard at 5.4. When you consider Fellaini's contributions in midfield in keeping the game under control, and Lingards misses, I think many here are just predisposed against Fellaini, don't like his style of play, don't consider him United quality, and rate him according to their pre-disposition.

I don't really like Fellaini's style of play either, but I still recognise he is doing his job well and is key to Jose's "controling the game".

Positive points:
Good defensively. Wins headers, defends corners and set pieces well and is difficult to shake off the ball while holding it. Is used like a wall to add rigidity.

Negative points.
Offers nothing on the ball though. Very very poor with the ball at his feet. Struggles to make to make basic through balls. Struggles whenever asked to move the ball and then make a pass.
Actually, struggles would be an understatement. He just can't do these things. If we see him with the ball then we need to stop expecting him to do anything other than pass it to the nearest player, even if that player is a CB.

Could see exactly what he offers yesterday, and believe it or not, teams do struggle to deal with players like him. He is very difficult to shake off, and, in offensive areas, can set up his teammates nicely. Also, he is very difficult to deal with while defending, not because of his footy skills, but because of his simple brute strength. He is very strong.

His contribution yesterday was purely defensive. Offered nothing in the attacking front. Mourinho, however likes to use defence as a means of attack and so Fellaini still fits in his plans. I even think that had he been there in the Swansea match, we would have managed a 1-0 victory. He would have bored the life out of everyone and driven fans crazy, but we would have come out as winners. It is almost like a paradox. A players with almost negligible football skills managing to somehow help us win games.

Everyone would love a better ball playing player in his place, and we will definitely get that next season, but for these final few matches, we need to tolerate and support him.

Stats can't show everything, partial stats even less. He also has pretty big pass conversion rate but one in 50 of his passes is actually a forward pass.

Difference being that Herrera and Pogba have lots more minutes than he has. Besides if you're watching UTD games you can easily see he's truly a red card waiting to happen. Reckless tackles, pulling and tugging, unnecessary complaining to the ref.

You actually had Fellaini as your top rated player this season up until recently if I remember correctly.

Where are you pulling those numbers from? I saw in the other Fellaini thread that he has an 80% forward pass rate.
