 Wasn't it Mourinho who didn't need Lukaku's services when he went back to Chelsea?
That had nothing to do with mourinho, his and his agent's antics weren't appreciated by a few chelsea boardroom guys and he was sent packing.

One minus with this signing is that I've already seen so much of him that a YouTube compilation isn't interesting.

Always the best part of a new prospective signing that.

Panic buy. Really disappointed with this signing. Teams seem to be really afraid of being left behind. Just as ridiculous as the Lacazette signing for Arsenal.

Just curious, then how you rate strikers given that obviously goal scoring records don't mean that much?
I think Beattie used to score a lot against lesser teams. If a striker proves he can score goals against the best defenders is what you're looking for. General ability to link up is a big part of it too.

I'd be surprised, Simon Stone/the BBC have put their name on this saying the fee has been agreed.
Someone said It earlier in the thread Jim White has been Moshiris mouthpiece ever since he took over Everton and he is saying no fee has been agreed. You don't know who to believe with stuff like this anyway.

I think I'd enjoy watching Morata play more than I would Lukaku, however if we were lining up against, say, City with one of those two against us, who would you be more scared of facing? I'd say Lukaku. Despite being a less talented player, he would prove to be more effective.
Every time we were going up against Everton people on here were bigging him up to crush Blind, Rojo, McNair or whoever we were fielding at CB at the time, and he never stepped up to it. I don't think he's as big as the shadow he casts but he is a proven goalscorer and we do need those.

Everton won't confirm anything until Lukaku is in a Utd shirt so shouldn't be digging the report too much.

...However, if true, what a fantastic move this would be. A proven EPL striker for many seasons now at £75M or a RM reject at £70M? Only one winner here and it's not even close.

186 appearances
85 goals
42 assists
Worth every penny in comparison to Morata who is A LOT bigger risk at essentially the same price tag. Not to mention, Lukaku is 24 yrs old - the same as Morata.

Zlatan knew all along :D

And for all the pessimists out there who don't think highly of Lukaku (for whatever odd reason), only Aguero has scored more goals (99) in the last 5 EPL seasons than Lukaku (85). Then you compare the City teams Aguero was on those years vs the Everton teams Lukaku was on, a point can easily be made Lukaku got more out of what he had to work with than what Aguero had.

Best of all this would be a huge middle finger to Madrid. The feck outta here trying to recoup a blasphemous amount for Morata and taking the piss. Have fun getting the Mbappe fee from someone else. PLEASE GOD LET THIS MOVE BE TRUE!!!

United briefing deal. Everton briefing no deal. What a clusterfeck.

Having said that I do think the deal is done.

It's called improving your team, nothing ridiculous at all. Are we suddenly better if this deal doesn't go through?

Beeb saying it's done?

Interesting. If true, I read that as the Morata deal being dead. We might sign another forward but surely not an out and out striker.

For me that sends the message that we can't be held to random by Madrid or anyone else. Which is probably a positive signal to be sending out to other clubs we're dealing with.
Except Everton. ;)

Waiting for the official announcement from the club before going all in on this one. Is that wrong of me?
Stranger things have happened. We could all be awaiting the unveiling of Lukaku in a United shirt on the website but instead we announce Morata through Instagram.

First I don't believe in these mouthpieces being said a lot here starting from Castles.

Second, if his source is from Everton it doesn't mean much because they won't say the deal is done till it's done. Public quotes mean nothing. Remember Pogba saga last season ?

This saga definitely deserves a "RKO out of nowhere gif" with Woody's head instead of Orton's. @Code-CX or @Olly could you maybe work some magic?

no one in their right mind would pay 95m for him. 75m is already insane.
Liverpool have been lining up a 60 million bid for Van Dyke and 75 million one for that Keita. There are plenty clubs out there clearly not 'right in the mind '.

What people don't seem to get is, if a deal was actually done, as in 100% finalised i.e. DONE, then the clubs would announce it. Until then it's not done.

Jim White is saying "no deal reached" which doesn't in itself contradict "fee agreed". Presumably a fee has been agreed but details such as structure of payments etc. have not. Can't understand why this distinction is causing such confusion.

Mourinho can just use his Drogba template and make Drogba mark ii
This is an extremely lazy comparison. Aside from the fact that they are both black, fast and strong. Drogba was the quintessential big game player, while inconsistent against minnows, bar a couple of seasons. Lukaku is the opposite in this regard.

Did your eyes fall out halfway through? I thought I made it pretty clear why I wrote what I wrote. Going "scores 25 for Everton last season, some people on the Caf think he's not good enough " is a dumb, because putting up good numbers as a striker does not make you United quality (as exemplified by the players I listed). No one has disputed his goal tally, that's not even up for debate. People who have misgivings about him are likely concerned about other facets of his game, so pointing to his goal tally alone as proof of his quality (and to laugh at the doubters) is unlikely to win any of them over.

What are you even on about? I said using goals alone as a measure of quality was near enough meaningless, not that goals are meaningless.

This is true, and I agree. However, there are legitimate concerns about what he has to offer besides goals, and quoting his goal tally to those expressing those concerns isn't going to magically change their minds, especially not when you do it like he did.
I personally think that where we're at, desperate for goals and having spent money on players over the last few years who haven't produced end product this is a sensible way to address the issue.

For what its worth I think the players you referred to in you previous posts - the likes of Phillips, Andy Johnson etc were, along with the likes of Andy Cole here were forwards from a different era who relied on service and did little else but put the ball in the back of the net. You can't be that sort of player in the PL now, especially where lone frontmen are standard. He isn't a player playing in a top side and just getting on the end of easy chances. I think there's a lot of lazy assumptions because of his style of play.

Some might prefer a player who looks like he's getting involved in all of the build up and has a great first touch but that's just a preference. Morata - for example looks a good player from what little I've admittedly seen, but would still come with risks, in his case of whether he'd do well in the Premier League or whether he was style over substance.

We need, first and foremost someone who can deliver goals from the chances the team created last year and I think there's a good chance he'll deliver that.

And obviously people will have concerns over a player stepping up a level. You can say that about any transfer so that's fair enough.

Sanctity, like a cat, abhors filth.
I'm happy about Lukaku and not happy with Morata  Honestly I'd have prefered Morata but still happy nonetheless
You might be better off sticking me on ignore for the day mate.

But yeah, I basically agree with you, except I am evidently happier than you that we have given Madrid the run around a bit (though my track record at deciphering your views today is obviously not great.) I can see why youd say that is a bit small time, but yeah, I do get a kick out of anything which puts their noses out of joint, even just a little.

Kind of similar to how most English fans feel about United I guess.
