What makes this signing extra special is that Chelsea were so publicly pied. They were favourites months ago but dilly dallied and we swooped in. Even the late ditch attempt to match our offer came in.
Now they could be stuck with Llorente haha!

Lukaka will destroy teams and those 0-0's last season will be a thing of the past. Now we just need a winger who can score goals along with a defensive midfielder.
That part is far from guaranteed, last season Lukaku scored in 17 games, if he does the same this season we could end up in the exact same situation. Lukaku will have to improve in order to reach our requirements.

His social media is about to blow up.

Pogba was on about 4m followers when the runours started last summer. He has 16.2 now! Gaining a million followers every month from last year.

Lukaku has 487k, it will be a million before season starts.
It's up to 861k now.

The blaming of Ibra by some on here is asinine. It was Mkhitaryan not showing up for half the season, Martial having a stinker, Lingard contributing feck all, Rashford not scoring for about 6 months, Mata going missing and being injured, Rooney doing literally noting, Pogba hitting the woodwork 54 times etc. why we struggled with goals and chances last year. Ibra did his part. If Lukaku comes in and the rest of the players have seasons like last year nothing will change.
You missed the point on purpose or what. Not seeing many people saying Lukaku himself would solve all of our problem. Just that Lukaku would waste less easier chance. We still need everyone to chip in important goal in big game, there is no doubt. You were just projecting your own agenda that we couldn't create chance bar handful of games which is false. We for most part create enough chances to win game. Zlatan scored important goals & all but he did miss some costly easier chance too

On the plus side, you didn't have to put milk on your cornflakes this morning.
Do you agree that the others have to step up though? If they don't it is more of the same. I can see Romelu getting plenty of goals, but if he goes on one of his droughts, then they have to pick up the slack.

Under soil heating.

Isn't that the case for every striker though really? Very few get a goal a game or there abouts. I do agree others have to step up and I think they will. I'm also interested to see how Pogba and Lukaku combine on the pitch, it could be the start of something great.

Off topic but look at this

@UllalIBT: Ivan Perisic likes Pual Pogba's Instagram post about Romelu Lukaku. Can Agent Paul help #MUFC complete Perisic's signing?

poor Perisic. this pic comes in to mind at the moment

Pleased with this. Never enjoyed playing against him and while there's things to work on, the materials are there for a top player.

We need to reopen the Player Performance forum now because Pogba is already performing for next season

Welcome Red Rom  Delighted with this signing as he basically guarantees PL goals. Jose is building a fantastic spine with strength and youth on its side. Exciting times ahead

Also I'm sure Jose is loving getting one over on Chelsea and especially Conte. Suck it up you plastics.

Haha, was just checking one of the forums I used to post on back in the day (Norwegian, run by one of the major newspapers over here) and some guy had made the exact same post, but in Norwegian. As I was reading it, I felt as if I'd read it before somewhere. Turned out it was 10 minutes ago on the Caf. Since the guy you quoted has a very Norwegian username, it's probably the same guy.

Such a freaky little coincidence.

As expected, a fair few of them are insisting Chelsea never actually wanted him anyway.

So are you as underwhelmed as me? I am glad he is here, but I am not confident the rest will step up. They didn't last year. In fact we have been awful for years. I just feel we need more goalpower from another striker. I feel we are just going to hope for the best and go back in for Griezmann. If we get Top 4 again then he will come. If it goes wrong then we are stuck. We will have to wait and see if there are other signings coming.
There are literally no players besides Ronaldo and Messi who would propel us to the top without the others stepping up. You previously mentioned Sanchez, but Arsenal finished fifth with him in the team! If two or three out of our four attacking players don't perform again, who we sign as the striker will make no difference.

I think it is more that he wants us playing attractive football again and he doesn't think it will happen. It could be dynamic, but not unless we get someone fast on the other side of the pitch. Martial is quick, but flaky, Rashford is quick and then there is Lingard. Mata is far too slow. I don't know. We will need to see what Jose has in mind. We need to win those games we drew but also need to perform in the big games, away from home.
I gathered that Gary is just like many British former players are more about keeping their rep with their mates than actually doing a fair assessment. The whole sticking to Moyes was a sell out. DDG vs Hart thing. Gives it to Giggs...

Gary can't just hide from wanting us to playing attractive football again when he got playing orgasm on live TV when Chelsea eliminate Barcelona the pragmatic, ruthless way. If anything, he knows result is first then style (not saying Lukaku alone would improve our result significantly. He IMO would partly help). We're in no position for style yet, especially after missing out on Griezmann.

While Ibra was playing, we created heaps of chances, against most of the minnows.
I do agree that once he got injured, our attack went to pot, but even after Ibra got injured, we still created some chances - not many, but enough to win games.
By this stage though, our full focus was the Europa League and we stopped scoring points in the league.

The problem was that the only player who could score goals was Ibra. The rest of our attackers were goal shy and on a level more akin to a club battling relegation.
I made a post earlier this week, where I showed that our top attacker (excluding Ibra) was ranked 74 in the goal scoring charts!

I still believe that if Jose wants to compete for the league, he will need at least 1 other attacker, because our current attackers cannot be trusted to score goals.
If we rely on the likes of Martial, Mata, Miki, Lingard, etc, then Jose will be falling into the same trap that LVG fell into, when he relied completely on Rooney, in his last season and Martial (partially), bailed him out (we won the FA Cup, but failed in other all other competitions, resulting in LVG being sacked).

Lukaku is a good step forward (a direct replacement for Ibra), but we need another attacker in his prime, who knows how and wants to score goals. I actually think that Hernandez (on the cheap), would be a great buy. A fox in the box who doesn't create much, but has a desire to actually score goals.

...and lets not forget gents, while some of you may get excited by watching a dribble, the aim of the game is to score goals.
Very good analysis. Someone is certainly coming in to fill in for Rooney. That should give us some bite upfront. Remember that Rooney was a part of our problems last season. He was meant to be the second key striker or a number 10 but he had minimal impact. If he is properly replaced, then Lukaku can perform better and a player like Rashford can be pushed to step up his game.

If we can get pace on both sides of the pitch then we could be pretty dynamic. We have Valencia but he cannot cross a ball. He busts a gut to get up there and then nothing. So it might be that he actually has to give the ball the someone who can cross when he gets up there, just not sure who that might be.

My worst fear finally has been confirmed. I suspected Jose would go for him right around mid season last season. I was relieved when rumors emerged that he'd agreed to go to Chelsea. Can't believe we're going to get stuck with this guy for a decade.

Anyway, could some one confirm the fee? We haven't actually paid 90m GPB for this guy, have we?

I am hoping that the Griezmann transfer might still happen some time.
