Someone better check on @InLevyITrust - he was hell bent on Lukaku joining Chelsea for some weird reason!
How was I hell bent . I and many other United fans thought he would opt for the Chelsea move, many other sources were saying his personal preference would be Chelsea. I don't mind where he ends up, I do despise Chelsea though.

Who was the poster who was going to stop supporting United if Lukaku signed?

Poor guy is probably tearing down his posters right now.
So Bluekaku day is now going to have to be Bluelotti day.

He can be a lazy donkey all he likes if he keeps pinging in 20+ a season.
Gary Neville on Lukaku
‘Personally I’ve never been his biggest fan.’

Be interesting to see if his view changes once he’s got a Red shirt on.

He's incredibly talented and I've seen him destroy defences but personally I've never been his biggest fan . However he will score goals . https://twitter.com/vkumarg89/status/883587450051756032 …

That is pretty much exactly how I feel.

His power and strength to just bulldoze his way past defenders is impressive. Players just bounce off him if they try to stop him.

How many goals do you think we will need to top Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal because that is who we have to overtake? We need a lot more goals because those teams will improve as well. He has dealt with teams who let Everton play so it will be interesting to see how he copes with packed defences. Nobody cared about Everton. Everyone wants to stop United.
You just need to win a game. 1 goal to win is enough. Tottenham had the best attack & defense. Guess what Chelsea won it just by having more points.

We don't know how team would improve or imploded. Nothing is guaranteed Just like at the beginning of last season, majority was writing Chelsea off. That Chelsea teams improved didn't really improve much from the one that won title 2 seasons prior. Yet, other teams just not improve enough for Chelsea to again ran away with the title.

Thing we know at the moment:

Arsenal will play EL and it's a obvious advantage. Tottenham played the whole season at Wembley. City only seems to fix GK position while only stockpile their attacking options, but they can't field all of them. Their defense improvement is a big question. L'pool made one signing, again in position they already have options.

It's not like our forwards last season were always being double marked in every chance we created. We messed up plenty of 1 vs 1 & some tap in too. Lukaku just needs to score those like he often does then it's good enough already. I am not saying Lukaku is world class, can turn the game around all by himself or anything. I have my doubt on him to reach that level, but it's a different point than what I am talking here.

I think this was all but sorted when Pogba joined last year. Who wouldn't want to go to work and play football with their best mate every day?

What makes this signing extra special is that Chelsea were so publicly pied. They were favourites months ago but dilly dallied and we swooped in. Even the late ditch attempt to match our offer came in.
Now they could be stuck with Llorente haha!

Lukaka will destroy teams and those 0-0's last season will be a thing of the past. Now we just need a winger who can score goals along with a defensive midfielder.

He is pretty much saying what quite a few on here are, including me.
So are you as underwhelmed as me? I am glad he is here, but I am not confident the rest will step up. They didn't last year. In fact we have been awful for years. I just feel we need more goalpower from another striker. I feel we are just going to hope for the best and go back in for Griezmann. If we get Top 4 again then he will come. If it goes wrong then we are stuck. We will have to wait and see if there are other signings coming.

If he replaces Zlatan's goals I'd be happy. We need other people to step up as well though.

The blaming of Ibra by some on here is asinine. It was Mkhitaryan not showing up for half the season, Martial having a stinker, Lingard contributing feck all, Rashford not scoring for about 6 months, Mata going missing and being injured, Rooney doing literally noting, Pogba hitting the woodwork 54 times etc. why we struggled with goals and chances last year. Ibra did his part. If Lukaku comes in and the rest of the players have seasons like last year nothing will change.

Worst case scenario is that they buy Moratta or Belotti for less than we've paid for Lukaku and they turn out to be huge successes.
Best case scenario is that they buy Moratta or Belotti for more than we've paid for Lukaku and they turn out to be huge flops.

I am not convinced on Gary's conviction. Give Moyes more time, I still remember...
I think it is more that he wants us playing attractive football again and he doesn't think it will happen. It could be dynamic, but not unless we get someone fast on the other side of the pitch. Martial is quick, but flaky, Rashford is quick and then there is Lingard. Mata is far too slow. I don't know. We will need to see what Jose has in mind. We need to win those games we drew but also need to perform in the big games, away from home.

On the plus side, you didn't have to put milk on your cornflakes this morning.

Gotta hope for some internal improvement.

The likes of Martial, Rashford, Mkhi and even Pogba(I thought he was good last season as well) should be better this season hopefully.

But we definitely need another goalscorer. Doesn't need to be a striker though.

U ok hun? In bocks me. 2 meny snecks hun :( xxx

So much salt on there, apparently they didn't seriously want him anyway:

I don't buy that we genuinely wanted Lukaku and were just lounging around not bothering to bid until the last minute. This is a tactic you'd use if the selling club were desperate, Everton aren't.

I believe this matching of the bid and salary is just to portray to fans that Lukaku chose United. We would clearly have known he was basically a United player and can't see us actually been willing to pay him 275k a week.
They're also throwing figures of £115 million around and that now they can put faith in Tammy Abraham. Yeah because Chelsea have always been about youth, haven't they?

Well played United. Chelsea blown out of the water. Or are they still confident a deal can be struck, as Sir Dildo-in-the-ear was saying?
