So, with this agreement confirmed, who were the undisputed best journalists in reporting the Lukaku to United move?

We may need to start following them closely for the rest of the transfer window period.
I think the leaks were likely coming from Everton's end.

Still going on with this BS to make Raiola the one to blame. Pathetic from Chelsea.

Remember Hazard deal ?

Lukaku is awful with his back to the goal, his first touch is horrendous and he's not that good in small spaces which is all what I think is wrong with United signing him. Just my opinion though.
I disagree. Lukaku has more presence in the box or around it. Lacazette is better running from deep. Lukaku is more worse in counter attacking style as he sometimes doesn't position himself correctly or doesn't run into channels he should(hence some Everton fans consider him lazy). Horrendous is off the mark as well.

Benteke, whose link-up play is way better. Even Batshuayi would be better imo but I know that's just down to personal preference.

That's fair, I don't think that really matters to us though, with how we play strikers. We just needed someone who can take one touch and hit the net. We have other players for the build up. Despite how great Zlatan is and what we all as United fans though of him. He broke down play a fair bit trying to drop back into the midfield when our players would have seemed to want him to stay forward and create positions for attack at the opposition back line or behind it. I think Lukaku can bring that to us.

You also have to consider the league lacazette is playing in, a league where a washed up Falcao is scoring loads. So don't know how he can say lukaku is inferior. Lacazette is a massive gamble more so than lukaku.
That is another thing. He's one of the top forwards alright in the current market, but as a pure #9 I'd take Lukaku easily.

Really worried Mbappe will cost us 150me at this rate....
Mate, Jim White knows feck all.

United said a fee has been announced and mentioned nothing of Wayne Rooney.
When we announce the official announcement with Lukaku holding the shirt etc - Rooney still won't be mentioned.

When the Rooney deal is complete, Lukaku won't be mentioned.

That means it's two separate deals, not a £100m package.

Fair enough. We'll find out soon :)

He has all the attributes to succeed at the top level. First and foremost he’s an incredible goal scorer. For somebody his age he has a great goal scoring record. This is even more impressive when you consider who he’s played for. When you add in the creativity that we have in our team, he could easily flourish.

He’s also deceptively quick and agile for someone so big and muscular. He obviously has weaknesses. I don’t think his link up play is particularly great. He also gets criticised for his dribbling ability (or lack thereof), and while i think some of the criticism is a little bit hyperbolic, it is certainly something he can improve on; and with age on his side, he can easily do this.

The main issue for me his is lack of consistency. He’s a very streaky player, which you can say for a lot of strikers, but he just stands out more for me. Again though, this is where age is on his side. He’s clearly a very, very talented player. He’s at a great club with some very talented players around him and a fantastic coach. There’s absolutely no reason why he can’t thrive at the top.

I can't believe the 2 deals aren't connected tbh whatever anyone try to convince me of the opposite thing.

Yeah we will. That's the great thing about footballers, you can argue about them all you want, and it's fun to do so. But at the end of the day all that matters is if they show up on the pitch.

He could be an absolute disaster but I just think he'll do well for us. I'm excited for him.

@RobinLFC is getting a bit of a hard time here but he knows more about how frustrating Lukaku can be playing for your own team than most others on here. And I should know, god I've complained about him often enough playing for our NT. He seemed ideally suited to the counter attacking style of Everton but this will be a big test for him. I agree with most RobinLFC is saying, but obviously I'm hopeful Lukaku will fit in and improve while he will be hoping for the opposite.

Why do they keep going on about the damn agent fees. Who cares? If Lukaku wanted to join Chelsea he would have chose Chelsea no matter who is agent is.

Nearly every Belgium player looks awful at major finals-the only time I really watch the Belgium national team.

And I think you're taking the official quotes too seriously.

Do you think United will say " we swept Rooney for Lukaku " ?!

You don't need to look far for that. There's a United fan in this thread who will no longer be following Man United because you have bought Lukaku.
For real? That's insane if true.

Welcome to Anfield Emile Heskey. Houllier has done well here. ;)

Joking aside Rooney is going straight into my FF team this season. You know he'll have a point to prove and is always involved in goals when played on his own. And he should be cheap.

Any reasons for comparing him to Heskey aside from the fact that they're black?

Drastically different striker with a huge gap in scoring records?

I didn't say he won't score goals for you. You can check my previous posts about him, don't rate him at all as a top quality striker. Of course it's pure speculation at this point but I think he'll struggle and won't score 20+ goals next season.
I'm willing to bet he will score over 20 goals.

Not really 100m is it, who was going to pay 10m for Rooney seriously? He wasn't gonna go China and his wages are so huge, we had to waive the 10m fee just to get rid of him. Plus we're getting rid of 300k wages so we're actually making money but including him in this deal.

Max this is 90m but we're only handing over 75m right now anyway plus lowering our wages so it's a decent deal. We could have paid 80/85m for Belotti or Morata those would have been worse deals given they are both unproven and huge risks

Why would they?

It's two separate deals.

Rumours of Everton being interested in Rooney started last summer, and have continued all year.
Besides, surely they would have mentioned Rooney in the tweet if he was involved in some way?

Shaken, and very stirred......
Mourinho and Conte, both good managers, wanted Lukaku first more then Morata I believe (or any others for that matter). I just think they realise that strength and brawn are extra ingredients needed to compete in the PL as a striker, more so than in other leagues. Two managers wanting the same player as a top target - I have more faith in their knowledge and understanding of the game here than I do the people who call Lukaku a donkey lump!!

He is young, strong, fast, and scored 25 goals a season, so I see no reason we shouldn't be happy about the signing

Only drawback though is that we've overpaid by around 30m in this transfer. With 75m+ I'd expect someone with Suarez quality perhaps. Lukaka is somewhere in between Kane and Benteke (better version of Benteke, but slightly behind Kane IMO)
Which he acknowledges. That he has to learn to create goals for himself out of nothing like the tier of strikers above do and can. Hopefully we see that development.

Both clubs will never say if Rooney was part of the deal or not whether he's or not. It's left to everyone assumptions.

You're dreaming. Football has gone mad, Van Dijk will go for £50 million this summer. Sterling cost that the year before last. A player scoring the goals he has in the PL is a £75 million player every day of the week these days.

Jamie Jackson called it on Full Time Devils before the transfer window opened. He said that Lukaku was Jose's main target in the window.

Isn't it supposedly that Chelsea the board wanted Lukaku, but Conte wanted Morata. The boards ineptitude might just get Conte his wish. Think they wanted Lukaku to stick it to Jose.

If you saw the colour then you're racist, not me. Utd desperately searching for lost glories in instant lesser club players. Under an overly defensive manager. Going for a big bully up front. I think the parallels don't need spelling out.

As for goalscoring, it's always harder in a team where the weight of expectation can break you. I await his goal scoring prowess when he is being booed like the other Everton striker you just had - and actually was world class once unlike Hes...Lukaku.
