Played well but should never take a penalty again. I could swear I've only ever seen him miss penalties. We need somebody else to take them.

Messi-esque, without the 2 goals though.
Not great today, and the penalty map they showed before his kick was simply shocking. But not awful, he was still useful.

I never feel comfortable with left footed penalty takers. Even Messi's rubbish at it.

What's the price tag got to do with him being poor at it? That's illogical argument.
What??? You're response is illogical. You pay the big bucks for your strikers to score, especially a player like Lukaku, who's game is based all around scoring. If would be have really strange if he didn't step up and take it.

You're taking out of your arse because he missed.

It was weird he took the pen when Pogba and Mata were on the pitch and have good penalty records. When I saw the graphic that he went right 5 times and missed 2 I was worried. When he did the exact same thing again it makes me think pens aren't his strong suit and he should really be down the pecking order.

There was an excellent moment from him in the first half where seized the ball on the edge of the box turned and got a good shot in. It wasn't his best day but he'll do better.

The difference between this game and last year was that someone (Marcus and Fellaini) stepped up despite his misses. Wasn't a good from him but he still showed plenty of positive signs.

His hold-up play was definitely better today, his headed flicks found their target a lot more often, still needs to work on the simple layoffs with his feet though. Which seems an odd thing to say really, because he's not a bad passer. I do hope the penalty miss hasn't affected his confidence, because it was the only true thing against him today where he showed improvements in other areas. We still need to work on providing him with more service, our full-backs really didn't help in that regard today. They were primarily our width and they both were poor.

He's a striker. Let him take the next pen. One miss and he should not take the next? Come on.
No reason for him to stop just because he missed one, but I do think we have better penalty takers than him. Just because he's the striker shouldn't mean he has dibs.

He did better than before with his hold up play though, I was happy to see that.

Played well, should have got a goal or two. Not sure if he should be taking our penalties.

Should he take free kicks as well?
Penalty is not like in-game goalscoring, it requires different skill and mentality

His penalty wasn't actually that bad. It was just at a great height for the keeper to save it.

Even Messi and Ronaldo miss penalties. It happens. But his record before was 3/5 so it's now 2/5 going by last 5 penalties or 3/6 at the least? Not a great record.

Thankfully it wasn't the deciding factor but in another game it could've been, so hopefully he improves or we establish a better PK taker. I thought he had a decent game otherwise - not bad, but not as good as his first 2 games.

Penalty and lack of scoring took the shine off what was a very professional and solid performance.

Any striker would've struggled against that defensive setup Leicester used today. It definitely wasn't a strikers game. But his hold up, link up, pressure from the front and constant battles with Maguire and Morgan were all positives.

I like what he's brought to the team. He's not the best baller, but his strengths bring out the best in a lot of players we already had on the books. Mata, Mkhitaryan, Martial and Rashford all look better playing with this kind of striker.

He's our new striker and our current top goal scorer. He was obviously going to take our first penalty, it's hard to understand why people are confused why he took it.

Some good link-up and hold-up play. Was just missing a goal. Had a feeling he'd miss the pen. Don't feel comfortable with him taking them in the future, because his track record isn't great.

Thought the pen should have been retaken. The keeper was 2 yards off his line as the ball was being kicked!

Poor pen and i thought he was quiet. But his hold up play was spot on.

Yeah he doesn't seem to be the best at penalties. He shouldn't take them when we have players like Mata and Pogba

I like how hungry he is to score. He looks like hes angry with himself if he doesn't score even when we are winning which I think is the mentality all top strikers should have

When they showed where he'd placed all his last six penalties it was obvious Schmeichel would save it.

He's won so many balls in the air I've lost count, but once he gets in the box he should be positioning himself between the CB and fullback instead of being close to CB because CBs tend to be better in the air. Someone like Ronaldo has been the master of that at Real.

Let Mata take the next penalty. Lively and dangerous nonetheless, not a bad performance despite the penalty miss.

Yeah exactly. Irwin was our penalty taker once upon a time when we had the likes of Scholes, Giggs and Yorke in our team.

Glad we won.. It felt like he was getting bogged down by the penalty miss and not thinking straight.. Will do him good knowing there are people around who can share the goal scoring burden..

I'm seeing definite signs of improvement in his general all-round play. He's mixing his game up a bit, holding the ball up, laying the ball off and making runs rather than his generic 'turn and shot' manoeuvre.

I think he'd do much better if he was getting accurate balls played towards him and involving him a bit more in the build up - at the moment our strategy is mostly just 'lump it in his direction and see what he can make of it'.

He should work on his penalties, he missed 3 of the last 6, all in the same corner... An the strike itself wasn't great neither.

Other than that, he had a decent game, fought hard against their CBs. Was affected by the missed penalty.

Apart from the fact he's our new 75 million pound striker. Pretty bizarre comment.
Why should this mean that he must take penalties?

His hold up play was pretty good I felt. He was always in between 2-3 players, so it was very hard to work something.

He did get 2 decent chances and a pen that he fluffed though, so not a good day in the office for him in that sense. Thankfully we won or he'd get savaged like Ibra last season when he missed a couple of chance and a pen against Bournemouth I believe.

Not his best match but it is easy to see he will get us goals no doubt and create loads for others. Mkhi is thriving because of him.
Missed penalty and that i think led to him trying too hard to make amends. I hope he goes and scores for belgium to get this miss out of his head. The great mark of a true goalscorer is that he forgets the chance he missed very quickly. He started trying too hard and the whole team tried to set him up a couple of times. He needs to do what he is doing and he will be a success.
He learns from Henry at belgium, i think henry and zlatan could have a great possitive effect on his game.

I think Lukaku is a great instinct striker but shouldn't take pens, I was hoping Mata would take it.

A lot of instinct strikers are pretty crap at pens like Andy Cole, Lukaku, Dzeko, Aguerro, Chicharito..there is probably way more.

As long as his worst game for us is one we win then I dont mind.
