Daft comparison. The reason Spurs are being lauded more than Girona is because they're quite clearly producing much better results on a regular basis than Girona are. People aren't giving them praise on the basis of a one-off.
It's not a daft comparison.

It's not the first time Madrid have lost this season. They been way below par this season.

It's not like Spurs have beaten a Madrid team in red hot form.

As good as it is for Spurs, Madrid continuing being average will be the headlines outside of England rather than Spurs arriving.

The pundits certainly are. You should give a listen to the bullshit claims Sherwood was making post match.
Spurs demolished Liverpool the other week and finished 2nd last season. It's quite clear that the vast majority of praise for them is being given because they've been doing very well in general.

I think if anything Poch has massively improved tactically. I think our problem as a team is nerve and experience.
depth is also a huge issue: let's see how you cope without the brilliant Alderweireld for a few games.

And I agree, the experience of winning at both management and player level is a huge club deficit which will also bite you at the business end.

But anyways, an amazing amazing night for Spurs. Enjoy it!

Never Barca, I think the guy is genuine when he talks about his attachment and ties to Espanyol.

RM is a maybe, certainly not any time soon, maybe later in his career if he goes on to win trophies.

Of course not, but Real Madrid are still a very strong team and Spurs comfortably disposing of them on their own patch, just like they did with Liverpool the other week, is very impressive. In spite of the fact they've a considerably smaller budget than the rest of the top six they comfortably look like one of the best three/four teams in the country at the moment. That's why they're receiving praise.

They have been a breath of fresh air in recent seasons.

They deserve the plaudits. It may well end up going nowhere but it’s no surprise they are making headlines

Their depth is pretty good tbf. They've got a fair amount of injuries currently. Dier can drop back into CB, most of their positions have adequate cover barring their superstars, same as most top sides now.

It'll be interesting. The fact he moved to Spurs from a smaller club in the first place clearly demonstrates he's willing to move up the ladder when chances present themselves. But then right now he's got an excellent team who've demonstrated that on their night they're capable of competing with anyone. Wonder if he might end up opting for Bayern when they next become available. A good chance to dominate a league, rack up some trophies, and potentially pick up the CL. I think he's capable of success with Spurs but sustaining it would be the difficult part.

Yeah, I'm kind of in the boat that thinks Spurs have definitely had a good night, but it's still a bit to early to say that they've finally ''arrived'' on the big stage. Madrid have already been defeated by bang average sides this season, and I'm almost certain Zidane' might not even be one more defeat away from getting the sack.

Alderweireld is one of their superstars IMO. Will be very difficult to cope without for 5+ games.

Don't know about Poch, but I think Madrid will be all over Kane in the summer. Perfect replacement for Benzema.

Madrid was awful for their standard, but still great showing from Spurs. They went for the kill from the start.

I think our depth is over exaggerated. We playing right now without Dembele, Rose, Wanyama and at a stretch Lamella. Of course Kane is massively important but we have seen most teams struggle without their goal scorer.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
Think I rate Pochettino higher than José at the moment.
For what, winning the 'We beat Real Madrid' trophy? (the European equivalent of Liverpool's 'We drew against West Brom' trophy)?

He's got a decent team, they play some nice football, Kane's a star and they've just beaten Real....

On the flip side, its one game (they lost to us last week so are we better than them AND Real now?) and Spurs and Poch have won diddly squat trophies.

I'd love us to play more attractive football (which may come), but I'd still have Jose.

I think their defence is nothing special without Wanyama in front of them! They have looked wide open at times this season.

I think it’s how the won as much as anything, and then look at their resources, money spent and total wage bill compared to the biggest clubs that makes tonight such an impressive result.
They still have good players, it is not as if they are Championship level players. Lloris was great before he went there, Eriksen was a real talent, Kane was a great youth prospect etc.

Fair enough they beat Madrid, but we still beat Spurs who are meant to be this great team these days. What are we then? Mourinho got his tactics right, Zidane got his wrong and Poch got his wrong against us. Regardless of the players, you still have to set up properly and use good tactics.

When Madrid sign Kane in the summer and so start the break up of this pretty team, Id like Mourinho to buy Tripper and Alli to complement Griezeman.

That would make a fantastic transfer bounty for next summer.

As unlikely as it is, it'd be the most Spurs thing imaginable if them beating Real Madrid resulted in Zidane getting sacked and Pochettino taking the job there.

Cant see Poch joining Madrid. Their culture is the polar opposite to the atmosphere at Spurs that has allowed him to build the side that he wants.

Would agree based on his demeanor and the way he talks. Heck I wouldn't be shocked one bit if he ends up with United at some pt. He clearly has a lot of respect for us (mostly). Even so, Spurs have a good thing going now with the squad the have and the new stadium under construction. Should at least stay there for another season to see how far he can get.

They're obviously a good team. Madrid were just shite on the night but would do them over two legs. Spurs are and always will be a bunch of bottlers.

Agree 100%, I don't think he'll ever be a Real type manager. Seems like the type who wants to do his job with no interference which he gets at Spurs.

Come off it. When a Sherwood starts making ridiculous claims after one great result this that only Bale, CR7 and
Modric are good enough in the whole Madrid squad to start for Spurs, Spurs have a better chance of winning the UEFACL than Real Madrid and that Pochetino who has won nothing ' is a different class' as comapred to Zidane, a manager who has retained the champions league and is the current defending La liga champion, isnt being 'salty'. Its admonishing utter stupidity. Especially since just last weekend that same side couldn't beat a depleted United side, which even at fulls strength is miles away from winning the UEFCL again.

But Sherwood is a moron. Everyone knows it. That shouldn't reflect any way on spurs.

When spurs move to their stadium it wont be a problem. The real challenge will be winning things
amidst the revival of City, Chelsea and United
