So wooden and error prone today. Should have come off long before he did. Set tone of complacency alongside Romero that lead to defeat.

Very Rooney-esque performance tonight. The Rooney of his last few United seasons I mean.

The worst thing is with him on the pitch Rashford and Martial just look a pale reflection of the players we’ve seen this season playing with Lukaku. Heck even when Lukaku came on and led the line both sort of picked up their performance a little bit.

By no means a good performance but at least he tried and looked like he actually wanted to win the match.

I think this injury and the hard work he put in to come back was amazing for his age, but I just can't see him really snapping back into form at this point in his career. I hope I'm wrong because I'm a big Ibra fan, and it is still early, but he's come back very quickly from this thing, and I actually see it more likely he picks up another injury rather than snapping back into form if he starts playing big minutes again. He may be done.

Obviously he's earned the right to try to get back to a top level, but he's nowhere near it right now. A flukey free kick aside, he was seriously dire, and spent half his time on the pitch standing still - largely outside the box. He was deeper than Pogba for large chunks of the first half.

We, depressingly, probably need to find another centre forward if we're never going to put Rahsers or Martial up top.

Hes not quite at full match fitness and most certainly not up to full match sharpness so we'll see how he is once he is that full match sharpness. Also I don't think we can play him at number 9 anymore unless its against a team that is "parking the bus", cos whenever he plays in that position we get pressed super high up the pitch.

People complaining that he's looking slow and rusty. Well, guess what? He should be! He just did a miraculous recovery from a serious 8-month injury and people want to write him off after not even playing a full match. Heck, he even scored our only goal. At the very least give him a month or two.

He looks playing with extra care, who wouldn't???
The reactions are mental. You want him sharp? Confident? Lion on the field?
He needs game time. He did last night, don't expect too much!

Long story
Very Rooney-esque performance tonight. The Rooney of his last few United seasons I mean.
Exactly what I was thinking. A very old-Rooney performance.

In his current form, he is a rotation player and a potential "super sub". But its not like you can buy a player like Messi and place him on the bench. Its even hard to get players like Lukaku for rotation. So he does have a position to fill.

Most of all, he looked extremely hesitant. Will he get back to form? Who knows, but it doesnt really matter. He is a good alternative for sub and rotation right now, doesnt have to be harder than that at the moment.

And he did what the rest didnt, score a goal. Personally I loved how he did it, after having massacred every ball for 30 minutes, maybe played his worst game ever at senior level, and just shoot one so wide it almost went backwards, he didnt accept to walk out that way. Insane mentality.

Predictably rusty and looks months away, but I thought this would be the right game to play him in to get the minutes into his legs. Quality strum at goal and hopefully it will give him some confidence.

He's finished. All mouth and no action. Trouble is players believe his nonsense and get complacent.

Even if that wasn’t true, we simply cannot afford to nurse him back to full fitness whilst he dithers around in matches all year.[/QUOT
Jeysus. He’s started one game after a massive ACL injury less than 8 months ago, calm the feck down.

I swear the moden football fan gets worse & worse by the day.

I’ll be waiting until February before I make any kind of judgement on Zlatan’s recovery.
I'm very calm mate. I was always sceptical about his return. I have experience working with sports injuries. I genuinely think he is all talk now. The dog with the loudest bark is the most frightened. He is how old and recovering from an ACL injury? Cant see it myself. I want to be wrong, I just dont see it happening. He might get the odd goal this season (a few demanded free kicks and penalties), thats about it.

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
This is revisionism at its finest. Ibrahimovic was regulary our best player in loads of games last season. He started to look poorer at the end of last season when he was clearly overplayed.

That being said he looks shocking tonight and just nowhere near ready. I really hope he can find his form because I still think he could be vital at the business end of the season.
I said the same last season, so it can't be revisionism on my part. He gives away possession so easily because he thinks he's better than he is on the ball. I laughed at the notion that he would be a good no.10 this season and last night we saw why. All the same things I saw last season... stupid decision making and inconsistent in front of goal.

I'm glad somebody else can see it. Last season Martial was completely stifled by Ibra. He tries to make the game all about him, he won't take the correct option but will only do something that he thinks will make him look good. The number of times he ignores Martial is staggering.

The way he struggled to stretch for balls a yard in front of him was hard to watch.

I don’t think the lion is as fit as he thinks.

Ibra seems finished. Goal apart he was genuinely substandard.

None of it matters. Anything he gives us will be a bonus. With Lukaku, Martial and Rashford we're stocked in that position.

Can we stop claiming his recovery is miraculous now please? It's just been like any other footballer.

Yeah, honestly I think last year he was pretty average and it affected everyone. He had really poor performances which in the mind of so many supporters were re-written due to him bagging a goal. Yesterday at one point he had 15% of the vote for man of the match. He was atrocious!! I gave him a 2.

It was a league cup game, that's the only positive about him starting and us losing. I still think (hope) he has a little more to offer. We wrote him off last year around this time and he ended up scoring in 75% of his games before he got injured. This is obviously a little different to simply being out of form but I reckon he can still chip in with the odd goal.

He's hopeless just like last season.

With him playing our attack is dysfunctional.

and all those people that said he could play in the midfield LOL!

Time for the the kitten to be euthanised.

3 months before he can (and most likely will) leave the club? Seems a bit late to be making that decision. I think it's a bit kneejerk to say 'he is finished' after 1 start, but I think there is definitely a level of concern with him at the moment.

Ya.. He should have scored an overhead kick goal and assisted 2 goals yesterday, because thats what players coming after an ACL injury do normally.

Hard to judge as he's coming off an injury but yesterday reminded his pros and cons from last season. Was nice to see superior touch and link up potential but he's often dropping deep trying to ochestrate attacks he should be spearheading. Add the fact that he likes to take his sweet time jogging up after.

Prime example of a player that raises your ceiling potential and then caps it at the same time

So many moronic posts on here. The guy has come back from such a serious injury and still even managers to score. Should be getting nothing but support.

He was shit last season before the injury as well, barring the headers and tap ins - basically an IKEA Andy Carroll.

He’s a burden and a key reason United finished so low in the league last season, and improved markedly this season while he was in rehab. He’s stealing Rashford and Martial’s development minutes as the vice-9 behind Lukaku and they look subdued on the pitch with him; something similar happened with Cavani and a few other players he shared a pitch with, he’s an overbearing negative presence and that’s part of the reason Pep exiled him asap.

Pitifull to watch in my mind. His goal was a good strike. However their wall had a gap in it you could have driven a bus through.
You realize they do that on purpose right? The goalkeeper need the line of sight and should save it if it comes through there, unless too hard or deflection. Its not the first time or last time goal keepers will fail to save a hard shot through the deliberate "hole" in the wall.

It’s a tricky one. Is it due to being out for so long with the injury or just the natural decline of a 36 year old player?

Either way he isn’t good enough to be playing an active role at the moment.

Time is running out for Zlatan as I don’t think he’ll get another contract extension.

I am a big Zlatan fan and have seen most games with him since 1999. What I have been worried about is that he has seen afraid to go in strong in and protect the ball with his body while taking a big hit. This has been one of his trademarks and is also critical for his clever link up plays. I saw some attempts for this in second half, so let’s hope it’s coming.
