He was injured a bit, had some great games (Real away), but altogether pretty inconsistent. He often got substituted also. Some of that must go down to injury and settling down, but it wasn't a great season.

For example, that was his worst season in terms of goal/assist per game ratio in last 7 years.
Would we be getting a slighter younger Ibra?

Serious question. How bothered or upset will people be if this doesn't happen in the end and he still ends up at City?
I think it would signal the fact that they are a bigger pull than us, as long as they have Pep and money. It is also incredibly rich of certain people to mention money as the reason for choosing United over City. It’s City! They are only what they are because of money. Some years ago they were relegation candidates with Joey Barton as their best player.

The money doesn’t disappear. It stays in the economy. It’s not like an either-or between investing in good or burning it.

Working for the NHS, I see no greater example of money regularly being pissed up the wall.
You say that like it's continually filtering around and shared about and it's doing the world good.

You pay a player £100m over his English career, and he disappears to another country, that's most of that taken OUT of our economy.
It's money that mostly stays in their account doing nothing as well, or lands in the hands of another wealthy member.

Im a United fan as much as anyone in here. But seriously some of the stuff here is rawk worthy. We're absolutely nowhere near favourites for this. City will get him. Save yourselves the heartache
We're evens and City are 15/8. You might not agree with it, but we are favourites.

This is what Di Marzio has been reporting all along. City had a deal with the player. Then United came in and offered him more. Now United have a deal with the player, and city don't

As for dressing room unrest, that's a thing for city, the ones who found a juggernaut of a team on their hands to worry about. For United? Besides Pogba, is there another player who's been so good for you he could genuinely ask for a raise because of what Alexis Sanchez earns, right now?
Sanchez would come in as our top player, and it'd be for Pogba to live up to it. I think he'd be delighted we're bringing in that level of class. He certainly seemed to embrace Ibra being around, albeit the very late on career version.
De Gea is obviously top class, but you always rate your attackers higher.

Are people happy with the prospect of paying him 400k a week? He is a good player but he is not worth that or close to it.
I look at it like this: Our team is lacking a world class attacker. It has a lot of young players, nobody in their prime, nobody who is a world class talent who can do everything on his own, and reliable to produce week in week out. Arsenal have Sanchez (and Ozil). Chelsea have Hazard. City have Aguero, De Bruyne and Silva (and then Sterling and Sane performing brilliantly this season). Liverpool have Mane and Salah, and had Coutinho. United have Pogba, then young players who haven't quite made that step up yet. They need that world class player to elevate them.

So then if you look around the world in who we could sign to be that attacker for us... There isn't anyone. They'll cost 100m at least. Rumors that Dybala/Griezmann might be on the move, so they'd be potential world class attacker who are moving. Griezmann is probably going to Barca, Dybala will probably stay for the time being. But it doesn't come along too often. Sanchez is one of the very few around who are available that we really should do whatever we can to sign. Him being 29 is of course a negative, but he just turned 29, and is in terrific shape and has a Ronaldo type obsession to being physically a beast. So I think he's got another 3 full seasons after this half season of still being quality. The alternative to not getting him is hope in the slight chance that we manage to bring in Dybala (unlikely), or just hope Martial takes the step up and turns into a world class player without having someone else there with him to help him reach that level, and the others all improve. Obviously not the worst scenario, but we are definitely lacking that one star in attack and without that, we'll be hoping for gradual improvement.

So in that case, yeah I think we should do all we can to sign him.

In terms of bad deals, £400k a week for Sanchez pales compared to £250,000k a week for Rooney and what we are currently paying Ibrahimovic.

Or he could have a clause in his contract where he gets matched up to the highest earner at the club.
There's no way we'd be naïve enough to do that now money is increasing so ridiculously.

What are you talking about? So I guess the media and reliable journalists who are saying United are favourites to sign Sanchez are just RAWK worthy?

So what exactly has changed since the morning?
Mourinho commented on it in his presser. Or did his "not talking about it" but then talked about it. Plus other reports saying City don't want to budge on their price despite United being interested now.

1) It’s going from one rich man/business account to another. At least there will be tax along the way.

2) You’ve made the mistake of assuming I view England or Britain as the limit of any interest. Could’t give a feck if he’s not buying in the Harry Ramsden’s outside Old Trafford.

I think he really wants to leave Arsenal as soon as possible, but I never thought we are in the race.

Sanchez might prefer City, but all summer, we also heard that Lukaku preferred Chelsea over us. It's hard to trust anything from transfer news these days.
I remember at this time too some Chelsea reporters were saying Lukaku wanted the move to Chelsea but money and Raiola forced him to move to us. Same shite over and over and over again.

Mourinho's quotes in press conference. Similar to what he said in a press conference not too long before we signed Matic.
Ahhh I see. Thanks guys.

He’ll take Zlatan’s pay. Im sure some of what would be offered includes bonuses.

Yeah, or Mourinho would have just dismissed it right away in the press conference. I still expect him to end up at City though, with hold up being over Arsenal trying to sign Malcom now but Bordeaux want him on loan for the rest of the season (that was the story when we were linked with Malcom anyway).

true, but that is a low bar
I agree with your sentiment, the money these guys get is obscene.

We've got so many average players earning big money, at least with Sanchez the signs are that he'd improve us.

I'd guess if you add Mata and Mkhitaryan's wages together you'd come close to paying Sanchez, I'd swap those 2 with their 4 PL goals for Sanchez any day of the week.

Only according to mostly clueless punters who move the odds with their bets. Whether or not we are actually favorites is known only by Alexis and Arsenal.

What we can definitely take onboard with this signing if we get Sanchez is that with Mourinho in charge we will not be far away from title number 21 sooner rather than later, especially if we significantly strengthen over the summer in the other key areas we know about already. The potential signing of Sanchez could turn out be a serious catalyst for us,next season players like Martial,Pogba,Rashford,Lingard will be even better throw in Sanchez and possibly Ozil then thats going to be a pretty formidable team!!

Spare a thought for Arsenal fans who will inevitably add the prefix "Dirty," to his surname when he plays for us
I can see them now deriding him joining us as only after money, yet if he joins City, it'll all be about "ambition"

We've seen this before with Van Persie!

I think it's a good move. He's a short term signing that I hope will have a similar impact as RVP. He has lost a bit of his pace though and his best goalscoring seasons have come playing on the left or central. So I'm not sure where he fits in yet. He also hasn't been great this season (decline vs can't be arsed or both).

After a couple of seasons I have no doubt that many on here (probably including me) will be calling for his head saying that he is a slow overpaid over-the-hill footballer that is not fit to wear the #7 and should therefore be offloaded as soon as possible.
