Only saw the second half last night as was out for a meal, Pogba was 4/10 surrounded by 2/10 performers.

Those who think Pogba is a class act just ask yourself would he get into the City team? Liverpool?
I don’t think he would, Klopp wouldn’t stand for his poor inconsistency and Pep certainly wouldn’t.
Let’s face facts, take off those rose tinted spectacles and just admit that our best performance of the season happened when he wasn’t on the pitch.
I’m sick of people saying but he won the World Cup, so what, Romero played in the final with Argentina, does that make him better than De Gea?
Hopefully he will go in the summer because we are going through a transition period off the pitch and hopefully one on the pitch in the summer. We can’t have a petulant player who only wants to play when it suits him.
Paul Pogba gets into any club side in the world. I am sure Klopp and Guardiola would enjoy working with such a talent. Look at Pogba for Juve. At the World Cup. Under Ole.
The guy has hit 15 from midfield? Shots, pens, headers... He creates more than many othet players... Course he gets into those teams.
Mourinho was a fool to treat him and others so poorly.

I did wonder how long it was going to take.....2 loses. It's funny but pathetic equally. The vultures are circling again with talk of selling him. He'd walk into City and Liverpool's team and under those two managers and with their forwards, they are winning the CL. I think the thing that's more scary is 2 of the Wolves midfielders and maybe even their forward would walk into our team....

He would be the first midfielder on the teamsheet for Liverpool - he would complete their side as it is just now. Man City have De Bruyne and the Silvas competing where he would slot in so it’s not guaranteed he would play there but he is of the same quality.

Enlighten me, what was our best performance of the season?

He didn’t just win the World Cup, he was one of France’s most important players and was the best performing midfielder of the tournament.

It’s very strange wanting rid of your best player (well outfielder anyway). I don’t think you can accuse him of only playing when it suits him. I think he starts making poor decisions when things aren’t going his way, he gets frustrated and overdoes everything. But I don’t see how you can say he doesn’t care, or picks and chooses when to turn up, etc.

Issue is he’s the only creative midfielder we’ve got. Teams crowd him out as it’s obvious all our attacks go down the left hand side.

He wasn’t good yesterday, but then no one was really.

However, it does seem like he isn’t rampaging forward as much as he was in Ole’s earlier games. That seems like his natural game, which means it can only be by instruction. Also he’s being deployed much further wide than before, or at least it looks that way to me. Strange tactics considering how productive he was when he was allowed to just focus on being an attacking outlet through the middle.

Don't really understand why he is being made captain. These performances are nearly all identical with a raft of various excuses, we're tied to his form and his performances and this was an identical one to when we previously played wolves. I'm completely miffed at why people are saying "they just kicked him off the park".. Well yeah. They did it in the last game as well. You stand near him, double team him, boot him and then run off into the space when he doesn't press.

I'm surprised more teams don't do it, more often. I don't think it is too much to ask when the response should be "well you're 6'4" and built like a brick shit house, surely you can work this one out?"..

/shrug his poor performances are a victimless crime. There is always plenty around to defend his honor to the death, ho hum.

Red Card for Casemiro!

I'd argued with you over Lukaku regarding the 'vultures', but I see what you mean now.

2 games is all it took for the Madrid theories, for the ship him off comments, for the 'will he walk into x team' questions. Good lord. Why can't he be our best outfielder and have a couple of bad games?

I maintain that he will look like Zidane's coming in a team with better players around him.

Yeah, teams have quickly learned if you stop him you stop United. We are sorely lacking in quality.

Exactly this. This has also made life much harder for Martial.

Is Pogba being stopped or has he just slowed down from the scintillating form he could never sustain?
I'm not a football manager but surely it hasn't taken three months for rivals to realize they have to make special plans for Pogba?
This all seems incredibly knee jerk to me. We were creating chance after chance v Arsenal only a week ago while Wolves are an extremely hard side for the top sides to play against.

I don’t think it has but obviously having better players makes it easier to defend against good players. It’s going to be easier for Wolves, Liverpool or PSG to stop him than it is for Burnley.

Liverpool didn't really stop him though? I though he was sensational in that game.
And we have had fantastic results against big sides under Ole and it's not as if he kept Pogba a secret over that period.
Sides have been trying to mark him out of games for three years now!
We need a striker to make runs for his passes and to create space for him to dove tail into. Rashfords loss of form isn't a side note to Pogba becoming less effective going forward.
It seems unless we lose while creating chance after chance then the sky is falling in. Even then we actually did that v Arsenal and no quarter was given even then.
This is the first bad performance v a non top side that we had where we didn't carve apart and now it's confirming all the bias about our squad.
It's one uncreative game in a row!
But certain fans were just waiting for this, there's criticism of our play from the PSG game with our reserves on here ffs.

I'm not writing this because of yesterday's match or to single Pogba out, it's about his performances in general, and the match against Wolves provided me with a suitable clip to highlight it. There have been countless other opportunities, I just haven't got around to it.

Actually, one previous example is our league home fixture against Wolves earlier this season. As some of you may recall, we were 1–0 up, he lost the ball that led to the attack in which they equalised. Maybe @GifLord can dig out that one.

There are some very few aspects to his game that probably won't improve through his own volition. Decision making is one of them. Coaching would then be the only remaining possibility for a potential development in that regard.

Obviously, the opposition crowds him because he's our best midfielder. With his qualities, he's more than capable of overcoming that type of pressing. However, he overcomplicates things with an extra touch, a ball roll, a flick, a turn… whatever it may be, he tends to get closed in on and his options are reduced.

The clip below demonstrates perhaps the biggest flaw still in his game—present from his earliest days to his senior years, regardless if playing for United, Juventus or France.

He is one of the best passers of the ball I have ever seen, yet doesn't utilise it nearly enough. Instead of playing a pass that he's more than capable of, he holds on to the ball.

This is just one fresh example, in which he's already cleared the obstacles, having managed the challenges. Time to release the pass to the opposing wing and start our counter-attack. We're all anticipating it, expecting it… only to be presented with yet another ball roll.

Pogba, like many of the team, has problems operating like small spaces. If there is no long opportunity-creating pass on there is nothing stopping him from employing the short passing option to recycle the ball, maintain possession and to create space. But his short quick purposeful passing game is not up to it unfortunately.

This in addition to his occasional lethargy, slow speed off the mark and his positioning, are what make some say that he wouldn't get into Liverpool's or City's teams. It is why he is a good but unexceptional no. 6 when playing in a 2.

That video... have you played before? He is clearly trying to get the ball in a position to make the pass, he doesn't actually have it fully under control after the turn and its too close (underneath him) to execute the pass.

He cannot run a team. He is a moments player, his bottom level is far too low to be the centre of a team. Get a controlling midfielder behind him and we won't look so inept when he is having an off day.

It's been said for ages but Pogba is good enough to play for us, but he's not a someone that dictates the game like Xavi or Scholes. He's also not a relentless midfielder like Keane or Viera.

He is a weird mix between a no.8 and no.10. A very unique player.

So it’s other people’s fault Pogba ain’t performing?
No.

But if he's getting kicked out of the game or just having an off day then the other players need to pick up the slack.

In times gone by the burden was shared throughout the united team, never really one player being expected to create everything.

I don't think he played too bad actually here. its very clear any move that didn't include his touch will go to waste.

That's the definition of a nothing highlights video. No significant moment or important ball down here and no impact whatsoever maybe except his role in Wolves first goal.

Pretty poor from our best player tbh.

ineffective because nothing happened but at least he kept driving and trying to make something happen. definitely not 2/10 or 3/10 like some people here said. maybe 5 or 6/10.

It's 5/10.

He's our best player so the standards people are evaluating him with will be always be higher than others.

Problem is whenever we are bad he follows the other players in the same performance as well, instead of acting like the light spark which drives the team to victory in its bad days.

Maybe the position he is playing in doesn't help him to play that role but it's pretty annoying for me tbh and I'm sure it gets on some others' nerve as well.

When you as a team are having a terrible day at the office you usually lay your best chance on your best player to get you out of it unscathed. He hasn't shown it in him so far, which is annoying.

I don't know what it is, but sometimes he just seems so extremely off. In some games he's truly world class. Creates, scores and runs the show. In other games its like he's not on the pitch. You only see him involved when he loses the ball.

He needs to get better at taking charge of the game. His highest level are up there with the best, but his off days are very very off.

The team requires a few more creative players. This will free up the attention Pogba gets from the opposing team. He can't do it all by himself.

Exactly

I mean some of the posts here are absolutely ridiculous. For all you know, he is totally knackered at this point of time, given his work load.

Besides most of the team was rubbish on the day. Let's just write this off as a very bad day and not judge players by it. It was very much a collective failure.

He wouldnt get into the Liverpool team because Klopp demands quick good passing and pressing football.
Everything that is complety alien to Pogba who likes to fanny around with the ball either missing the opportunity for the killer pass or even worse losing the ball to the opposition in dangerous areas, something that he is rather consistent at doing.
Trolling? No seeing things for what they are, yes.

"Manchester United right now is firmly a Paul Pogba-led team in attack. No player in the league is both the most frequent passer and the most frequent possession-ender in a team apart from him."

need to surround him with actual quality. people that can share the burden and responsibility. he's been carrying this team for a while. and the minute he has a couple of bad games you see some shocking posts here.

Misses the opportunity for a key pass, but has far an away more key passes and assists than anyone else in our team? And you wonder why people think you’re trolling...

Pogba has more assists than anyone in the Liverpool team. in fact liverpool doesn't have a single midfielder in the top 20 assisters in the league this season.

You're doing more than that. He already had performances where he dug deep to help us get a result. It feels like you're just using this as an excuse to badmouth him.

People on here are strange. People do know it's possible for great players to have bad performances right?

Just shows exactly what our issue is. Pogba the only guy pulling his weight in the attack half the time. Other midfielders all play relatively safe.

Pogba will never be that player consistently. That's not his game. He is a player that gets better with more touches and so will tend to struggle when the team is not using the ball well.

Get better players around him and Pogba will go up a level. Matic and Herrera are just workers. Ashley Young and whoever is right winger for the day will almost always lose the ball.

Watching the best teams in Europe and comparing it to the way we play, there is a darth in quality and personality. Juventus, Barca and City can play themselves out of basically anything, they are not afraid to play the risky pass that will beat the press if it comes off and have them going up the pitch.

Pogba is constantly taking risks and trying difficult things which generally work. He has the technique and personality to play at the highest level.
