What did warne whisper to nasser just right before he said "you cannot tell me that dinesh katik is one the 6 best batters in india".

Sounded like he said shutup Mate
Anyone have the answer to this? I had no commentary on.

So what does this do to the popularity of Cricket in England?
Its always been a very popular sport, but it will never overtake Football or Rugby. I think it will be a tier below them along with Tennis and F1. Below that you have sports like snooker.

Cricket is bigger than Rugby in the UK.

Oh grow up.

You've spoken at length about how much you hate the England team and the England players. You've spent weeks making snide comments about England. And you're trying to claim you're not bitter?

Well unlucky, we're World Champions!
You're telling me to not have an opinion. This is a forum for sharing and discussing. Have I broken any rules?

Enjoy your win and stop being offended by some random person on the internet.

Anyways, well done. Enjoy it. It was an epic game of cricket and did a great service to the sport I love.

I went to school in the UK and the sports was always focused more on Rugby and Football. Cricket was never played. Maybe its different now or was (and is) different at other schools, but the feeling I got was that Football and Rugby were top.

With a bit of cheating and a massive amount of luck england managed to nick a draw.

Most undeserving world cup winners. NZ are the winners in spirit.

I would say Cricket is very close to Rugby in some ways in the UK. Attendence wise, Rugby blows it away though.

That's just a personal anecdote?

Rugby Union is essentially only played in about three counties. Likewise Rugby League.

You can guarantee if NZ had won in the same circumstances, absolutely all the naysayers would be saying "it was lucky but they deserved it".

Why are some of the Indian fans so bitter? You lot had a golden chance to knock England out but you didn't even try to win the game.

We all have our own opinions, but with timing of his post he has to expect to get called out on it and questions asked. Had he spoke about all the players in the team who didn't fit his criteria his opinion would have been held in higher esteem. However he singled out the black player, and he's done it at the most peculiar of times, so he's been rightly called out.

For what's it's worth i don't think what he's said is racist, nor are his views. His views are wrong though, it's a topic that shouldn't even be up for debate.
Archer had just bowled the winning over. He only moved to English when he was 18. I don't agree with his point either, but you're the one to identify him as the only black player, you were the one who decided that was the only variable that mattered. If the ECB hadn't changed their own rule last year then he wouldn't even be eligible to play right now. His case is distinctly different to all those other players. Why anyone thinks it's OK to frivolously accuse someone of racism is beyond me. You genuinely just through the blokes credibility into the fire.

I've been told to drop now, so I will.

I'm most certainly not a racist, nor do I believe this opinion to be so. In fact, I started to think about this when, I read an article on the subject by Micheal Atherton.

I mentioned Archer because the ECB changed the qualifying system before the world cup to fast-trackk him. He's just bowled the winning over, so it was relevant. However, I accpect it's a debate for another time. And it was a debate many were having before the tournament.

Since you mention him, I think what Morgen did was wrong as well. Stokes, I have no issue with because he come over here as a young teen and learnt his cricket. The best comparison I can think of is KP. He is a player who in my view should not have played cricket for England. He come over here at 19, and already had his technique formed in South Arfica. He should have played for SA.

Hope that helps clear up my views on the subject.
I don't know if you are or aren't a racist as I don't know you, but I can fully accept you probably didn't make the conscious decision that you don't like him playing for England. I do think that subconsciously you focused on Archer because he looks different and made a point you wouldn't have made (and didn't make) about those three at the time. That doesn't make you a terrible person, we all carry subconscious biases and assumptions when it comes to race whether people are willing to admit it or not, but, in this instance it led to you repeating a talking point which people who definitely are racists strongly believe and have been bleating on about for months.

All I'm hoping to achieve by highlighting it is that you think about why that was one of your first thoughts when England had just won the World Cup.

Apparently there is a Indian-England cricket rivalry, in the same way City, before the current owners, hated United and United didn't really give two fecks :D

Full respect to both Morgan and Williamson. These two are true gents of the game. I know many English people here feel Indians don't like this England side but that's a total BS. A lotnof indians here and elsewhere have gone to say this english side is really good and truth to be told one cannot hate this English side. They play wonderful cricket and are deserving champions. Again well done. Like Ravi Shastri says Cricket was the true winner today. Thank you to both England and NZ.

What a game! To go to super over in the final of the World Cup and win it the way we did was absolutely phonomenal. Doubt we'll see that ever again in a game of such magnitude. Buzzing!!!

In terms of popularity the bandwagon fans will drink this victory in but return to football in a few weeks kind of how the rugby team in 2003 did. Some will stick around having been won over, some will try but get completely bemused by test cricket, and if you're a hardcore fan you probably value the ashes more than the world cup anyway.

What this country needs is an Ashes series that delivers. I think the Aussies are favourites but with the home advantage, England evens out the odds. We could be in for a cracker of a test series.

Wait.

Do people still genuinely believe this is a good argument?

Really doesn't matter that he bowled the last over at all, England win the world cup not just Archer. That's a bollocks cop out excuse.

He moved over when he was 18 so fecking what his dad is English and he has British passport so why does when he moved to the UK matter in bloody slightest? Doesn't matter if his case is different, the poster said (after i had asked him) that he didn't agree with them playing for England either. So why not just state you don't agree with certain types of players representing England rather than single out one player? We just won the world cup and he bowled the last over, but if that's one of the first things you can say after we've just won a world cup you're gonna called out on it end of. He has no credibility whatsoever and got rightly called out on his bollocks views.

Also, why are people being so precious on here? Why do you put so much weight on what other people say? English fans should enjoy their win and stop being offended by comments. Its a damn forum. Opinions will differ.

What do you think about Morgan? He played for Ireland and then England decided they wanted a piece of him. Ed Joyce and Boyd Rankin too.

People tend to stick up for their country, you'd be the same if the boot was on the other foot had your country just won the wc and people were trying to shit on it

Oh, thats fine. People are whining about what other people are saying.

"Why the Indians fan this, why the Indians fans that"? Like I said, opinions will differ.
