He's just scored for his national team, and celebrations are a natural impulse. Are we really arguing over this...

You'd think these players are obliged to funnel everything from the point of view of their club careers and fans, judging by the reactions here.

Some of the criticism and comments are over the top. A flop, so far? Sure. Worth the money? Hell no. Worst ever transfer? Far from it

Every team he plays for concedes boat loads of goals. He was a regular for the PL team that broke the record for goals conceded.

He’s absolutely terrible. No better than Chris Smalling. It’s a disgrace we’ve invested so much into him and a reflection of how far this club has fallen.

Must be loving playing for a proper team in England again and let his emotions show. Not got a problem with it tbh... every one of our players look like they've had a weight lifted when they get a chance to get away
As an England supporter though, long may his outstanding form for us continue :)

Didn't say I fancied him, there are for sure better CB's out there. But we've had worst transfers.

Worsrt signing ever, no.

In terms of value for money as worst transfers go, he's up there. Sanchez, Di Maria and Veron would be way ahead of him. Him and Pogba would probably round out the top 5.

Oh feck off. Guys been criticised to hell all season, scores with England and does a daft celebration for all of 5 seconds. Who cares. The commentary team jumping all over him is pathetic….what do they want, a public apology for a celebration
That would be a start. Maguire is small time

Probably some humility and self awareness would be good enough.

The guy has been a disaster since we signed him from Leicester..

Should have been sold or at least stripped of the captaincy after his antics in the summer!

Carthorse scores a goal and celebrates like that against Andorra i hope that ain’t aimed at the supporters who have backed him since 2019

Maguire giving it the big un' after scoring against the mighty Albania! Embarrassing from the so-called Manchester United captain like Roy Keane said.

It just shows the critics have got into his head big-time. Which will add more pressure onto him and encourage the critics as they know they are bothering and affecting him and his game (and indirectly affecting Manchester United). Every mistake will be magnified so he better be perfect against Watford, Chelsea and Arsenal after doing that celebration.. the critics sense blood like a shark. He is struggling with the pressure of the Manchester United captaincy.. the profile and expectations it brings.

That's why he needs to give it up to focus on his own game or Ole needs to remove the captaincy from Maguire if he had any balls and give it to Ronaldo, a better captain and someone who already captains his country so can handle the pressure. Plus Ronny is a serial winner which Maguire hasn't won anything in his career, he's been relegated more times! Maguire and a lot of Manchester United players are very weak mentality, and you won't succeed like that playing for one of the biggest clubs in the World. Sir Alex always said you need to have the right mentality/character to play for Manchester United. A lot of United players currently don't have it, hence the inconsistency to perform week-in and week-out consistently struggling to deal with the pressure. Weak mentality players lead by a weak mentality captain is a recipe for disaster. Donkeys lead by a donkey.

FYI Harry, the criticism was/is justified you have been a disgrace playing for your Manchester United. Scoring a header against a shite team nobody doubts you can do.. it's your defending (you know your main job!) that has been shite! So just accept criticism is part of football playing for one of the biggest clubs in the World and that you are playing disgraceful and get better!

I’ve defended him ever since he joined and I still will but if that celebration is any indication of where his mind is then then he needs a good clip round the ear. Small time

He's been horrible this season but I kind of like that celebration.

It shows he's still confident/deluded enough and I mean that in a good way.

Like all other players, I'm waiting until he plays under another manager.

I don't see the fuss. Yes it's a bit silly given his form for us but so what? People allowed to be a bit silly.

On the player, the problem is that we made a Leicester level player the world's most expensive defender. He's pretty good when I form but never a top defender. Solid and functional but not brilliant. I said this beofee we signed him and while he's probably been a bit better than I expected, it mostly holds true. I'd also like to see him under a more organized United team, shouldn't be as much as of a problem hopefully.

It was a bit like when Walcott came out and praised his own performances on the pitch and bigged himself up because he had 2 good games in a row. You don't do that celebration the first chance you get. Go and have 10 good games in a row and then do a celebration. He has every chance of coming back to United and conceding 10 goals in the next 5 or 6 games.

But then also enjoy scoring for your country, but show a bit of humility. Timing is everything.

People have such short memories. He was one our most consistent players for 2 seasons. When he got injured last season we actually fell apart. He’s started this season injured and has not really recovered yet.

He is the sort of player who will want to play every game. It is the coaches and managers fault for playing him when he is not fit or ready.

they pick the team.

Harry will come good again.

Smalling is actually a winner who won his fellow teammates over when they voted him player's player of the year in 2017. I doubt Maguire will win anything with United, nor will he ever get that type of adulation from his teammates. Rashford insulting him during a match revealed a lot. Rashford himself is more influential in the dressing room

Maguire's post-match interview with ITV shows he pretty much crapped it afterwards when he has heard the backlash and carried on his trend of lying: "It was just a knee slide". It wasn't just a knee slide was it, Harry? He knew exactly what that gesture was aimed at. Disgrace of a captain and player for Manchester United.

I like the delusion as well . He's gonna need it to stay confident. But the celebration was so cringe and small time. It's fecking Albania at home, can anyone imagine him doing this in front of the Kop?

not my Captain! Maguire is so small time. Leicester City is his level. I don't see much difference between Maguire and Johnny Evans (who plays for Leicester currently) infact I'd say Johnny Evans is having the better season! United would've saved a lot of money by just keeping Evans! Remember Evans wasn't even good enough to be backup to Ferdinand and Vidic by Sir Alex.. so what does that say about Maguire if he's not better than Johnny Evans!?

you can imagine Maguire loving and bragging the fact he's captain of Manchester United and can't believe it waking up with a smile everyday.. Walking around with a big chip on his shoulder and arrogant. He seems that sort to dine out on it.

Maguire shouldn't even be in the team in his current form nevermind the Captain of the club responsible for looking after other players! If Maguire was foreigner Eric Bailey you can bet he'd be dropped ages ago. But no can't drop English/British Harry Maguire no matter what. Favouritism is killing morale in the squad.

Watford, Chelsea and Arsenal attackers will relish playing against the wardrobe/fridge Slabby Maguire.

Bailley/Lindelof and Varene for me. Pace, power and ballers who can pass the ball from the back. Not hoof ball Harry thinking he's still playing for Leicester.

He's not the worst signing we've had, but he might be the worst captain.

A Manchester United captain is the guy on the training ground on Monday morning, tearing into the flash git who celebrated a goal against Albania like that after underperforming for 3 months.

A lot has changed in football since Keane was in his prime. But not the fire and self reflection that makes great players great and not the hubris that makes spoofers spoofers.

I honestly think Harry Maguire could turn out to be in the running for the worst signing ever for Manchester United considering what we paid for him + his wages which won't be cheap considering he has the English hype tax and the club captain (and the fact he's undroppable as he's club captain so it will be a long painful goodbye)

basically we sold Ronaldo to Real Madrid and got Maguire from Leicester when you think about it. Shocking piece of business.

I hope Harry Maguire proves us all wrong and he is lifting a trophy at the end of the season. But I seriously doubt it.

Football is sometimes too much an entertainment than a sport to some.

Always moaning about something like it's Big Brother or Love Island on Channel 4oD.

Complaining about how our manager is one of the worst coaches they have seen - not good enough for the championship to some; then also blaming the players single handedly too when there's a cause in their problems..

I've seen people complain about Ole playing injured players than rotating his squad (Rashford last season, this season etc) but when Maguire obviously has gotten effected by it (much better previous seasons), then people don't seem to care as much.

he’s been terrible for us, but let’s not just be reasonable here

The only thing he needs to do to shut up people who criticized him is to go back to his previous ManUnited form, where he looked an okay-good defender. Thats it. Is it too much to ask? a bit small time for him to use England goal as a justification. It has got nothing to do with the critics at all.

Sure blame the coach for management problems like playing them through injuries - just surely there's some Lee way afterwards for the players if the coach is the primary problem?

When the manager is good and the 'majority' of our players are playing well because of that - then if Maguire is looking out of sorts as he does now then his time is up and needs to be replaced.

Arguably only De Gea, Ronaldo and maybe maybe the more creative Bruno has shown a level of some good performance isn't it? That's without even including the big matches where no one is there at all.

I can understand that Maguire is not the best Captain - for me that's Bruno; but again how the hell is that Maguire's fault? Is he supposed to change his personality? Let's just change the personality of Pogba and make him our captain.

It's Ole's fault as a manager.

The people saying they HATE Maguire is just very cloying and weird.

This will all be forgotten once he is put in a functional team and under a proper manager but seeing as its United it is probably the beginning of the end of him.

I agree. One cannot go without the other in this instance. Personally I never rated Maguire that highly although he is much than what he's showed this season for Man Utd.
I just hope he finds some form. Ole did him dirty vs Leicester. Ridiculous selfish move from him
